Welp, my local Walgreens texted me earlier today and said they cancelled my appointment. I called them to see what happened, and they said "we ran out". On one hand, it sucks that I have to reschedule my appointment to Friday because that's when they said they would get more. But on the other hand, enough people getting vaccinated in my area that "they ran out" is good news... and honestly kind of surprising given the red state I live in.

I went on Monday to my local CVS and they said they were delaying giving out the new booster because there was a delay in billing and a lot of insurances aren't covering it yet.

How the fuck is that teaching them about sex stuff FFS? Theyre 13-14 not 5. Your trolling at this point and yes are defending book bans for BS reasons and leaving any part out of her diary is insulting to her and in general disgusting.
Jackass. I'm not defending book banning.

If they were trying to ban the ORIGINAL version of Anne Frank, then you would 100% have a point. The actual lesson the teacher was teaching was about Anne Frank. They were supposed to read The Diary of Anne Frank. The original version.

The teacher decided to use a non-approved version of the story.

It would be like assigning the book "Of Mice and Men" and instead of the original source material, you gave the kids a graphic novel that had illustrations of Lenny ripping the heads of mice, and a graphic picture of George blowing Lenny's head off.

But whatever. I don't live in Texas, and both of my kids already read Anne Frank, so I really don't give a fuck about this anyway.

I've read the diary, the section they were offended by is in it too. Showing the naked statues (nothing vulgar btw, think Venus de Milo) just put the words to imagery. They would try to get the diary banned too if they knew it was in there. The whole point here is that they want to erase LGBT people and don't want anyone knowing that Anne had an attraction to other girls.

That would be a different story altogether. If they were trying to ban the original source material, then you have a point, 100%.

Lol what a bs false equivalency.

It really isn't. It's going beyond the source material that was approved for the class you are being paid to teach.

As a teacher, you have a choice of using the source material that is provided to you by the school you work for, or you can go beyond the curriculum and face the consequences of your actions.

I'm all for teaching kids, especially ones that are on the cusp of, or have just gone through puberty and are having sexual thoughts for possibly the first times ever, but I'm not so sure if during a lesson about World War II is the time to do it.

So using the version of Anne Frank that leaves that part out doesn't really change the message of the book in the slightest.

Fuck off defending this, you know full well why theyve done this. And the graphic novel version is probably a better way of teaching it to 13-14 year olds.

Wasn't defending it, was more stating that it was an easily avoidable situation.

It would be like teaching kids about JFK's assassination by handing out pictures of his autopsy.

The fact that it was a graphic novel, or to be better put an "adaptation" and not the original source material that was already approved is what the issue is here, not that the teacher was teaching the story of Anne Frank.

I haven't tried to bench 225 or squat 225 (which is what I currently weigh) since college, but I probably could now.

I can file my own taxes, as all that means is mailing in the forms. I've never tried to actually do my own taxes though.

I've only driven a stick a handful of times, and not since high school back in the 90's, so I probably wouldn't be good at it now.

I didn't say you were the only one saying it was a problem. The numbers don't lie. Covid is still here. You're preaching to the choir my friend. I lost both of my parents 22 days apart to Covid during it's height, so you don't have to preach to me that is still a "problem".

Everyone should be masked up in public. Full stop.

That's the thing. You're suggesting solutions that would be near impossible to implement. All you can do is set guidelines and hope as many people as possible adhere to them.

Ok, so then what's your solution then? You're the one saying it's a problem, so tell us the solution.

People are getting vaccinated. People are getting boosted. Are they at the number they should be at? No. But at this point, all you can really do is offer them and make them affordable and available enough that anyone that wants to get vaccinated/boosted can.

The whole point of the vaccine isn't to prevent people getting it, it was to lessen the symptoms, so our medical systems don't get overloaded.

At this point while people still get it, we're not in danger of the same issues when the pandemic started. People who get their yearly boosters will be inoculated, and the people who are antivax risk getting their Darwin award.

Pretty much this.

I get the booster when my doctor tells me to, and at this point, whoever wanted to get vaccinated and boosted have.

And it's terrible to say, but anyone that hasn't gotten vaccinated and aren't on a booster schedule kinda get what they deserve.

Im slightly confused.

Reading the article, they made claim that the rainbow was a symbol for autism, which it kinda is, but it seems the lawsuit is all about the boards view of the LGBTQ+ community.

The lawsuit argues that the citys residents are entitled to a library that embraces a range of viewpoints, not just the viewpoints of those with an aversion to rainbow colors and a disdain for LGBTQ citizens. It also alleges that the board had previously objected to buying a book featuring a nonbinary teenage character and to sponsoring a city 4th of July parade because one of the floats advertised a Pride event.

Either way, I hope they win and bankrupt the town, but are they arguing that is was a symbol for autism, or that it actually was a Pride thing?

I feel the same way becasue, and it's a sad reason, is that there's literally hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Trump voters that have literally died in the 4 years since the last election, and millions of new voters aged 18-21 that weren't old enough to vote in 2020. And about 70% of voters under the age of 25 vote Democrat, it doesn't make for a good swing in Trump's favor.
