FINAL FANTASY VIII

(I'm skipping VII for now because I havent played it and also because it has no less than eleven TVTropes subpages for characters, aw hell naw. Maybe another day)

Ward Zabac: If even Kiros can make it into SMFFFC, Ward has no excuse. People must really not care about him.

Ellone: I feel like her character needs too much context to do well in SMFFFC. I myself barely remember her role in the plot, and I think she was pretty important!

Julia Heartilly: I refuse to believe that anyone who finds Laguna attractive would do well in SMFFFC

Raine: Same problem as Julia

Xu: A close friend if Quistis. She was cool, she should've joined the party at some point instead of Irvine.

Nida: This guy apparently graduated with Squall, but I don't remember him at all.

Dr. Kadowaki: Only one doctor from VIII has a hope of doing anything in SMFFFC, and this ain't the one

Ma Dincht: If we ever have another Year of Moms, I'd support Ma Dincht over Julia at least.

Martine: This is the FF character with a name closest to our dear friend MartinFF7. Outside of some sort of meme run based on that, Martine has no hope.

Zone & Watts: I had forgotten how stupid their group name was. The Forest Owls, ugh.

Dr. Odine: This guy could potentially do well in SMFFFC based on his absurd costume alone.

The Queen of Cards: This girl could do big things in SMFFFC. Everyone loves Triple Triad!

Vinzer Deling: Absolutely nobody likes Deling. If anyone quotes this and says they do, that person is a liar.

Biggs & Wedge: These two goofs will never amount to anything. X-ATM is a much better SMFFFC entrant.

Sorceress Adel: If any sorceress is going to do well in SMFFFC, it will be Edea or Ultimecia, never Adel.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: The Queen of Cards, assuming she's even eligible

FINAL FANTASY VI

Gogo: As the only main party member yet to reach SMFFFC, Gogo could wind up being strong. However, the most compelling theory is that he's Adlai Stevenson, a guy best known for losing two Presidential elections. Therefore, Gogo is a loser.

Biggs and Wedge: Even in a hypothetical year of Biggses and Wedges, I think these two mooks would get instantly booted.

Banon: The rebel leader with crazy hair. Maybe he'd have a chance in SMFFFC if he joined the main party for real instead of being a tease.

?????: This awesome ghost would become an instant champion if not for the coward lefty saying he isnt eligible.

Cid Del Norte Marquez: Theres a good reason why Cid P is the only one from these early games to make it into SMFFFC. Banana Cid is lame as hell.

Arvis: The guy who rescued Terra at the beginning of the game. That isn't much of a character.

Duncan Harcourt: Sabin's mentor, meh.

Darill: Setzer's friend who is way, waaay cooler than Setzer himself. Why couldn't she have been the one to join the party? Alas, she doesn't get enough screentime to even be a joke entrant in SMFFFC.

Siegfried: This guy could become an awesome force in SMFFFC... or we could wind up with his lame imposter who gets insta-booted. Personally, I don't want to risk it.

Madeline: Terra's mom! I'm one of the few Terra fans, and not even I would save Madeline, not even during Year of Moms.

Humbaba: Am I the only one who thinks of Harambe every time I see this name? Yes? Okay, anyway. This monster is lame.

Deathgaze: Everybody hates having to search the entire map to find you, Deathgaze.

Vargas Harcourt: I always laugh at how detailed his sprite is compared to his peer and rival, Sabin. Other than that, Vargas doesn't have much going on.

Ramuh: Very few summons have done well in SMFFFC, and this would be no exception.

Yura and Valigarmanda: Same as Ramuh.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: ?????, please let us save him lefty

FINAL FANTASY V

(I havent played this game either but the list is super short)

Cid Previa: The TVTropes page literally calls him "the requisite Cid", how lame of a character do you have to be to have that as your description.

Mid Previa: Cid's grandson. If he got into SMFFFC, he'd probably rank mid

Alexander Highwind Tycoon: This guy wins the prize for best name, at least. Based off his picture, he has a unique sense of style too

Dorgann Klauser: Dead dad of Bartz. That doesn't sound like much.

Enuo: The original evil! Sounds spooky, but also like it wouldn't do very well in SMFFFC

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: Alexander Highwind Tycoon. It'd be fun to get him in alongside the summon Alexander, one of the other Highwinds, and his daughter Lenna Tycoon. People would be forced to save him by his full name!

FINAL FANTASY IV (excluding The After Years because fuck em)

Scarmiglione: The zombie archfiend. Rubicante has already been in, and I really doubt any of the others could do half as well as he did.

Cagnazzo: Another archfiend. He looks kinda like a turtle, maybe he could be the next Ghido!!!

Barbariccia: I'm sure this sexy archfiend lady will show up in contest XXX and get immediately booted.

Dr. Lugae: I like how the TVTropes page literally calls him a weirdo scientist. Still, he wasn't as memorable as he should've been.

Baigan: An evil knight who I have no memory of at all, and IV was the last FF I played!

Calcabrina: I'm a sucker for the evil doll aesthetic, but I doubt many other people would be.

Zemus: Spoiler character who wouldn't do well in SMFFFC

Luca: The dwarf princess. I remember liking her when I played, maybe she could get a bit of support.

Elder of Mysidia: Sorry dude, you don't even have a real name.

Giott: King of the dwarfs who would do significantly worse than his daughter.

Sheila: AKA Yang's Wife. She'd probably do the best out of all of them just from meme potential alone.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: Yang's Wife

FINAL FANTASY III

(Note: I haven't played this game, so I expect this list to go really well and be super interesting to read)

Arc: Near as I can tell at a glance, the nameless onion knights were made actual characters in the DS version, and only Luneth has made it into SMFFFC so far. Of the rest, I doubt the boring childhood friend would be the one to make waves.

Refia: Blacksmith girl has better odds, but still meh.

Ingus: Royal soldier dude is super meh.

Sara Altney: Another Princess Sara, that's neat. This one seems significantly cooler than the first one, too, but I still doubt her strength.

Cid Haze: A jolly old airship man who would also get instantly booted even in a hypothetical Year of Cids.

Desch: No one likes characters who have amnesia.

Aria Benett: A mysterious young girl who accompanies the party. I didn't want to spoil myself, so I dont know what her mystery is, but she has potential I guess. Still, there are much better options coming up!

Alus Restor: A prince introduced being mocked in a pub. Man, what a dweeb.

Doga and Unei: Sorry sages, you can't team up as one entrant in SMFFFC

Noah: A sage of some sort, sounds boring.

Xande: Best thing I can say about this guy is that reading his blurb on the TVTropes page makes me think he should be the real hero. Justice for Xande!

Djinn: An evil spirit. That doesn't sound like it'd be enough for SMFFFC success.

Giant Rat: A ruby-stealing giant rat, aw yeah. He could be the next Ghido! Sadly, there are better options coming up, such as...

Gutsco the Rogue: Done, I'm sold. This guy is great. Even without knowing anything about him, people will fight each other for the right to save a guy named Gutsco the Rogue!

Sorcerer Hein: As cool as a skeleton-looking sorcerer is, he's no Gutsco the Rogue.

Goldor: A rich jerk who literally has the word gold in his name. That's a bit on the nose.

Gigameth: Even more meth than regular meth. I do like the name. Still, he's no Gutsco the Rogue.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: Gutsco the Rogue!

FINAL FANTASY II

Prince Scott: I don't actually remember much about the plot of this game, so luckily this list is short! Prince Scott apparently dies immediately, and I can only imagine he'd share the same fate in SMFFFC

Princess Hilda: A rebel leader. That at least sounds important, which is more than I can say for most of these.

Cid: The actual original Cid! Even in a hypothetical Year of Cids, I think he'd get instantly booted.

Nelly: Josef's daughter. That's it. Yeah, I don't see her being a powerhouse.

Paul: A great thief. Sorry Paul, Locke and Zidane already have that niche covered.

Count Borghen: A traitorous nobleman, nobody likes those guys.

Deumion: Only appeared in one version of the game.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: Princess Hilda, because, man, look at the shoddy competition she has. Yeesh.

I'm bored at work, and Jessie being a high-ranking new arrival has gotten me wondering what other untapped gems there might be waiting to join SMFFFC! I'm going to slowly go through each game and consider the potential of anyone who hasn't been in. I'm using GMUN's stats site for the list of who has already been in and, to limit things somewhat, will only consider characters in each game's TVTropes character page. I may also add further limits if this starts to get ridiculous in later games.

FINAL FANTASY I

Thief: Obviously the OG character classes have had success before, I mean just look at Red Mage. However, I don't think a non-character could hold the required attention across multiple contests.

Black Belt: See the write-up for Thief, only Black Belt's chances are even worse because they're super boring.

Lich: I like a cool skeleton fiend, but he's still probably the least likely to find success out of the four of them.

Marilith/Kary: A sexy multi-armed snake lady fiend, aw yeah. I wont completely discount her chances, a lot of us are very horny individuals (myself included). However, outside a gimmick appearance in contest XXX, I don't see her amounting to much.

Tiamat: Hydras are cool, but Kraken has already shown that being a cool monster doesn't translate to SMFFFC success.

Bikke: Maybe if we have a year of pirates someday, but even then I doubt he'd do well.

Astos: According to the TVTropes page, this dark elf has had multiple appearances across the series! I certainly don't remember him from FFIV, though, so clearly he isn't memorable.

Chronodia: Only appeared in one version of FFI, kinda limits his chances.

Princess Sarah: The original damsel in distress! Unless she has additional characterization in a version or spinoff I haven't played (maybe she's major in Strangers of Paradise, I dunno) she's too flat of a character to have much success.

Prince of Elfheim: Sorry dude, you weren't even important enough to get a real name, you ain't getting into SMFFFC.

Dr. Unne: A translator of dead languages who I don't even remember being in the game.

Lukahn the Sage: Apparently a seer dude who I also don't remember.

Cid of the Lufaine: The original Cid! Or, he would be if he actually appeared in the original game and not just a later version. Even in a hypothetical Year of Cids, this guy would get booted immediately.

Character most likely to find success in SMFFFC: Marilith/Kary, because hot girls have inherent strength even if they're snake fiends.

Cecil is the actual Terra of the lefty era. Host's favorite who does really well but will never win (I hope, repeats are bad)

I seriously considered nominating the Romantic Killer OP in the contest! I really like the part where she's walking and her surroundings keep changing.

These aren't similar to AoT or Death Note, but they're some of my favorites that I think have wide appeal if you feel like branching out.

Akudama Drive- a sci-fi action series about criminals doing a heist
A Place Further than the Universe- a slice-of-life show about girls going to Antarctica
Hinamatsuri- a comedy about a psychic girl being looked after by a yakuza

As nice as that Dango ED is, it can't compete with the energy of Lucky Star! In the second match, I vastly prefer the song in Magia, but Hikaru Nara is a good song too and the animation has a lot more going on.

Yeah, if we only voted on the song, there'd be no point in tying this to OPs/EDs at all. We could just have a Japanese song contest instead (or, since not all anime use Japanese songs, just a song contest I guess).

Speaking as someone who lost one of their favorite OPs to the slideshow Real Folk Blues, I think people aren't considering animation enough!

From what little I've played, I feel like Starfield could've done a better job making useful stuff stand out from the junk. Granted, I don't 100% know what is or isn't useful yet, but toxin materials really blended in with the lab equipment in that tutorial pirate base. It doesn't help that scan mode outlines everything with the same blue color, making it it all look similar. Still, I'm sure it won't be long until I only bother picking up important and obvious things, so it isn't a huge issue.

I felt like we had too much stuff from a few shows, like One Piece and Death Note. Overall, though, it was a good field. I've discovered some new favorite OPs that have driven me to watch their shows. Unfortunately, both Ranking of Kings and Boogiepop haven't lived up to the greatness of their OPs as of a few episodes in, but I'm enjoying them both enough to at least finish them.

3 of the 7 shows I nominated in are still here, including Flyers. I'm genuinely impressed that it made that comeback!

Only a few hours in because it took a long time to download and then I had to figure out why it claimed my graphics card wasn't good enough even though it totally was. Still, I'm enjoying Starfield so far. I did a sidequest where I flipped switches in a slum to help a maintenance worker and it was fun.
