Driving while drunk or high is just such a colossally stupid and selfish thing to do that I'm not sure I could look past it. It's also one if the easiest things not to do, especially in the era of cell phones and taxi/Uber where getting home from a party without driving is as simple as opening an app. I have nothing against weed. I just think that anyone who needs to be high now, so urgently that they're willing to endanger the lives of others... well, that's a person with a problem and I'd rather not get to know them on an intimate level. I probably wouldn't cut a good friend or family member out of my life because of it, though I would tell them it was stupid and I definitely wouldn't trust them to drive me home after a night out. But if it's one of the first things I learn about a person? No thanks. There are plenty of other people in the world I can get to know instead

X-2 is almost perfect already, but I won't complain if they remake it and add Brother as a playable party member!

I had her equipped with a Ribbon I found in the snowy mountain, so I didn't need to worry about status effects. That probably made the fights a lot easier than they would've been

I considered doing a favorites bracket but it would've just been Lightning beating Rinoa because she was the only one of my favorites on the other side of the bracket. Not that exciting

It was a quest to, essentially, steal Materia from Shinra. I can think of no one better to lead such a mission than the Materia thief herself!

Do you know how hard it is it get that summon.... the snow lady only fights you if you've touched the hot springs which iirc are nowhere near where she is. Compounding with the fact that after taking a certain number of steps in that environment, the game assumes you're lost and knocks you unconscious and you awaken in the cabin, so not sure if you found the cabin that way or if you actually found it the way you were supposed to.

I ran around a whole bunch without fainting, but I guess since I found a cave leading to the world map it would've reset the counter? Once I went back in and found my first landmark, I didn't have too much trouble navigating. I found the cabin on my own, but I fainted a few times after that while getting the summon. The part I struggled with most was finding the exact spot on the ledge where I could walk in and touch the hot spring.

So I think this is another part of the game where it doesn't give you direction on where to go next like with the keystone search but way easier to figure out (and no Tiny Bronco navigation to deal with either, lol)

Red XIII said there was a lot of lifestream on a southern island, so I assume that's the next plot zone. Since I'm not exploring on that awful airplane, though, I'll probably go around the rest of the world map first and see what I can find. I've barely used Vincent, he needs training!

You could add Lumina to be ranked for XIII. She's pretty important in Lightning Returns. I'd also include Caius and maybe even Yeul, especially if you're including people on the level of Jihl.

I'd also suggest Brother for X. He's a pretty major side character, especially in X-2

I glanced through calculating as best I could remember from my choices, and I think Aeris would've been 54, Tifa 63. That -12 from the barrel minigame (I'm pretty sure there were four) was definitely what sunk me. Still, it was pretty close! Yuffie had 32, Barret only 13

....did you unlock Cloud's level 3 limit break by any chance, otherwise you must've landed a critical hit on one of those, or your party really is way overlevelled, lol

With Cloud I used the meteorite one and Tifa beat it up all the way to Dolphin Blow. My level is about mid 40s on Cloud, was a bit lower on the other two. Barret now is like 37, sadly

Demon's Gate (last boss in the Temple) is well-known for being uh, what's the phrase when the difficulty ramps up.

Was this the one that came through the wall? I was lucky enough to enter that fight with Aeris having her limit break. I used the one that filled the gauge for Cloud and Tifa, and then both of their limit breaks killed the boss >_>

By the way, since you're playing the Steam version, you can turn off random encounters if you don't want them in a specific area, or if you feel like you're getting overleveled.

Oh, I have no problem being overleveled. If anything, I'm going to have to grind a bit to catch my new third party members up!

Did you do the Pagoda sidequest with Yuffie in Wutai after you got her back?

Was this the building that wouldn't let me in because I wasnt from Wutai? I made a mental note of that, but by the time I got Yuffie back I was just glad to fix my Materia and get out of there. Whoops. I'll make sure to head back whenever I get back to the main world map

I didn't mind, I was overdue for moving my Materia around anyway so I just took it all out and started fresh. From a story perspective though, it was kind of endearing. She was in such a hurry to get back on the team that she didn't slow down to put it all back right. I also laughed at how she was initially planning to keep that one extra Materia I'd found in the chest. She only gave it back when it looked like everyone was going to leave without her, haha.

You know what, the more I think about it, the more forgiving I become towards Yuffie. It wasnt the best thing for her to do when the fate of the world is at stake elsewhere, but she's a fun character. At least she wasn't malicious like the traitorous Cait Sith!!!

Damn, I'm sad I missed that! Clearly I do need to get better at snooping, and not just in Tifa's house. I checked the houses in Kalm in clockwise order and didn't find any hidden items. Then in one of the last ones I opened a certain kind of door with an item in it. When I went back to the other houses, sure enough there were items behind those doors too. There's an art to opening things in VII that I'm obviously still struggling with.

I wonder what reaction Tifa had to finding out Cloud rifled through her underwear, lol. I was joking when I used that as an example! Why would he even tell her that part of the story

Eiko's low score from yesterday is a disgrace

I've been watching that Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence anime too because it looked like it could be cute. I haven't seen the final episode yet, but I doubt it'll change my opinion much. I thought it was mediocre. Cecilia had some great facial expressions and reactions, but the setting was really half-baked. Her being a saint barely mattered in most episodes. I also agree that Lawrence was incredibly boring. I'll at least give the show points for never descending into melodrama, even if they did tease it a few times.

Overall, the Ice Guy anime from earlier this year was a much, much better "two people act cute around each other" show.

Oddly enough, I did get into Warhammer 40k as a child thanks to Chaos Gate, a PC game that actually worked. Maybe if my PC copy of FFVII had functioned, my life would've taken a different path and I wouldn't have a 3000 point Chaos Marine army...

I will say, my one negative with Tifa is that I don't like her slot machine limit break. I assume it would do more damage if I got all 'Yeah!' And no "Hit", but so far I've failed every time. I hope her later limit breaks are different, otherwise I might need to bench her whether I want to or not when the fights get tougher

Streetwise, that's a good word for her. And yeah, Tifa is definitely the demure one, which also isn't what I would've expected. I still haven't gotten to know her super well, but she's all coy with Cloud and holding onto the memory of a cute promise they made together as kids. Then there's Aeris being all forward with the "I'll go on a date if you bodyguard me, lol just kidding... or am I?". It's a fun dynamic.

Assuming you aren't against the concept if reading data-logs, I remember them being interesting and informative. I would've been totally lost in the plot without them! Many would call that bad writing, but I enjoyed reading them whenever a new one popped up.

I don't hate Locke, but I'm very meh on him overall. Lightning, meanwhile, is not only the best FF character, but one of the best characters in all of video gaming! Cloud I'll rate after beating VII since late ratings are allowed
