Dr. Cid is the first Cid in the Final Fantasy series to be an antagonist.

Although X-Death himself does not appear, he is mentioned in the Japanese version of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars as one of the incorrect answers in Dr. Topper's quiz questions, specifically "What's the first monster you see in the Pipe Vault?" It is one of many nods to the Final Fantasy series found throughout the game.

Venat is named after the Occuria of the same name from FF XII. Like the XII character, the XIV character is a rogue and heretic who defied the wishes of their race.

Clyde "Shadow" Arrowny (FFVI) --VS -- Red XIII (FFVII) - 15-21
Tetsuya Nomura is best remembered as the lead character designer for FFVII and FFVIII as well as other future entries in the Final Fantasy series. However, the first playable characters that he designed were Shadow and Setzer in FFVI.

Black Mage (FFI) --VS -- Dad (SaGa 2) - 25-10
Dad's design was inspired by Indiana Jones. His artwork has him with a leather jacket, a fedora, and whip.

Ardyn Izunia (FFXV) --VS -- (16) Zell Dincht (FFVIII) - 20-15
In the game's North American version, Zell loves hot dogs, but in the original Japanese version, Zell's favorite food is flavored bread. In the French version, his favorite food is pretzels.

During game development, there was confusion and debate over whether Moggle Mog was a true primal (summon) or not. This confusion ended up being transferred to the canon itself, as a significant part of the A Realm Reborn Moggle Mog questline involves puzzling over the nature of the being the Mogglesguard have summoned.

Unsuprisingly, FFVII has the most entrants at 17...the next closest games have 12 (FFVI and FFX)

NOTE: LAST MINUTE BRACKET CHANGE

So Andy asked who the biggest character not here is and that led me to do a triple check of everything. Included characters were decided by the 5 highest placements in each contest (for a total of 125) and then 3 wild cards which would make up the 3 highest remaining characters in stats not yet in the contest.

After the triple check, the 125 characters were verified, so those should be very solid. However, I realized that I accidentally skipped over Setzer for wild card consideration (86th in stats) and gave the final wild card to Vayne (96th in stats). The first two wild card spots went to Y'shtola and Argath.

Thus, I have fixed the error. Vayne is out, unfortunately, and the only character in the top 100 not in the contest, so he is arguably the biggest snub now. Other characters just missing the cut are Gippal (102nd in stats) and Rosa (106th in stats). Ifrit and Tiz (Bravely) are the highest non-stats eligible snubs.

Setzer enters in as the 120th seed, so seeds 121-127 got bumped down one.

The bracket should be good now and I anticipate no other changes.

lol, I am instituting a no trading policy for that very reason. For once, let's just let the actual overall consensus decide a champion rather than trading shenanigans. Also, trading isnt usually done with bracket tournaments so it isn't a big leap to ban it in this situation.

Yep, after I put this together, I realized there were some unfortunate matchups for some of our favorites, but it would have been dishonest to tamper with anything. Just had to leave everything the way the system spit it out.

What I'm interested in seeing is how this plays out without the element of trading. Also, it's unsure who all exactly is going to be participating in this. Could lead to some unusual results possibly.

There will be no nominations for this tournament. The characters chosen and their seeding has been decided by a mixture of highest placement and overall stats. They will face off 1v1 until only one remains.

A new topic will be created for each round (starting at 4 matches a day). Results will be posted in this topic. Predictions have been enabled in the bracket for those who like to do that. The contest itself will start on either Thursday or Friday. Each round will last 24 hours.

Let me know if you notice any typos or errors. I painstakingly double checked placements and seeding ranks, so those should be correct, but it's possible a slight typo has snuck in somewhere.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of SMFFFC, would anyone be interested in participating in an SMFFFC 25th Anniversary Tournament? Specifically, a 128-character, NCAA-style tournament bracket.

The characters included would be the 5 highest placements from each contest (no repeats, Bravely included), plus 3 wild cards, which would be the 3 highest characters in stats not yet in the tourney. Doing it this way would actually include the entire top 100 in stats inside the tournament. The other 28 characters would consist of 17 that are not yet stats eligible and 11 that exist just outside the top 100.

Seeding would be by highest placement in a contest (so winners get the highest seeds) with tiebreakers being sorted by placement in stats (with those not yet stats eligible being sorted behind them).

I ran the Disney song tournament (also 128 entries) earlier this year and was thinking about running something again and thought this might be fun, but only if there would be some interest in it, which is why Im putting out feelers in this post.

A Child Called It is a book I will never forget. It's also a book I'll never read again.

I'm definitely rooting against the large market powerhouses. So no Astros, Braves, Dodgers, or Phillies in the WS please. Of course, my hometown favorite is the Brewers so I'm rooting for them, but would love to see anyone topple the giants and give us a small-market WS.

I don't know about you, but I missed having an MLB topic here this season. I would've chimed in on this or that throughout the course of the year if there were one and I suppose was just too unmotivated to make one myself.

I'm not letting that slide for the postseason. The stage is set for the Wild Card round beginning Tuesday.

Yeah Mika and Vayne were my surprise oddities (I was worried a blitzball player would slip in because I kept picking them early on). Rasler fed mostly on fodder and appeared a lot early on, but I was kind of happy at the end that he snuck in. The FF12 intro has always been very memorable to me.

I don't think it's likely for there to be a Hamlin type injury but it would be interesting to see how they handle it.

I actually am curious to see it, but I don't have espn+ and am not planning on waking up that early regardless. Hopefully there'll be some kind of recap or clips on youtube or something.

there's been a good handful of times now where poll of the day really seems to try to cover all the bases but leaves out an obvious choice in the process. I agree with you, putting it in the case of the next game you are about to play wouldve been my option too.

well, that was a beatdown. Lions dominated in every facet in the 1st half. The Packers tried to make it respectable in the 2nd half. Thought maybe another wild comeback was going to happen, but Quay Walker had to be stupid again so I guess we'll never know. This is definitely the Lion's division to win at this point.
