Give it a few months, there's already been Republicans like that in the past. One of the things that sunk Roy Moore's campaign was saying that during slavery was when the black family was strongest.

Damn, I knew they were going to obfuscate the history of slavery with a white slant, but I admit I didn't think they'd actually try to paint it as a positive for them with "learned skills".

Like, damn, what's next, slavers taking credit for teaching the slaves how to eat food?

Just because the riots started as left leaning protests doesn't mean the participants were aligned.

My point was more that you can riot and/or protest while also being apolitical. As a straight cis white male, I can't understand much about systemic targeting or persecution, however I can at least try to understand the idea of fighting for the best interest of a community with the absence of inherent political bias.

Say, for example, police brutality and violence against the black community. It's pretty easy to understand how someone could be against that, without personally being politically engaged.

The crux of what I was trying to get at is that Republicans/right-wingers are inherently trying to paint protest of police brutality & violence as "something the left voices against", while ignoring that you can totally be apolitical while also being someone who is like, "hey, my dad told me about racial targeting from his own life while also passing down stories of racial targeting from his father, so I get that it's been a problem for a long time".

They're trying to inherently paint that as a "Democratic attitude", and I think it ultimately just helps them paint the narrative they want to sell of the 2020 summer when people buy into it.

This is the first Diablo game I've played I (perhaps now in hindsight, foolishly) purchased it last night to play with a friend. People been talking about the negatives, however he was explaining how the gold and map exploration is account based now, so I actually learned that before all these negatives.

I've done PVP before in the past, with mixed enjoyment depending on the game, I just don't like when it's incentivized and/or enforced to an extreme degree. Y'know, depending on the game, it could just be like 5 achievements, however when it gets double digits that's when I start to feel like they're are just heavily pushing the pvp on people, made even more ridiculous when it's for games that didn't even need PVP (like Uncharted 1 or 2).

The difference between that and this is the question on whether or not Gillette swung hard in the opposite direction trying to get those people back, and instead just alienated everybody else.

So many people keep acting like only these right-wing bigots had an affect on Bud Light when BL's attempt at getting those bigots back was spiting the LGBTQ community, where BL had been a main staple beer in gay bars and thus the gay community for decades, as well as their allies who support their community/personhood.

It's almost like if both sides of the aisle are boycotting something then we can actually see real change.

My dad raised me to be a conservative Republican, which I was until my early 20s when I started to think for myself and question everything political I'd been taught growing up. He certainly had no hand in raising me to be the progressive I am today.

In a similar fashion, Watters likely just legitimately because a sack of shit at one point of his own volition or decided pretending to be one would get him right-wing money.

Yeah, politically speaking their views don't seem to differ much from their Boomer parents.

I remember some time ago I looked up a Pew Research article that explained where Gen Zers stand politically, part of which broke down support for Trump based off generation, and Boomer to Gen Z had the least amount of difference at 4%.

From older Gen Xers I know, as a personal anecdote, they seem to often revere their parents in a sort of infallible or excuse away their faults with "just how their generation/timers was/were" wave of the hand.

I heard the phone call, it was absolutely hilarious and I can't believe they actually aired it to their viewers. Mom starts out by saying how she and his father are proud of him, he thanks her, and then she makes suggestions for keeping the job now that he's got it; which leads to her saying he should avoid boosting conspiracies that could lead to lawsuits, that they bash Biden way too much and often, and that they should be less concerned with what others do with their bodies. Might have missed a point or 2, his mom wasn't holding back.

Watters made sure to specify before she spoke that she's a Democrat and during the "bash Biden less" part he kept trying to interject and softly scoffed throughout most of her criticisms, however I guess I'll give him credit on being raised well-enough that he never actually interrupted her or insulted her, so at least he respects his parents (or at least his mom). Literally the only respectable thing I can think about him.

Oppenheimer was a movie I was always excited about. My friend got to watch an early screening of it and considers it more of a horror masterpiece than a history piece.

That tracks with Nolan saying the earliest screenings had people leaving in disgust.

In a 2016 Trump got 63m votes. In 2020 he somehow gained almost 11m people who didn't vote for him in 2016 after 4 years of having him as POTUS.

There are a lot of people (not talking about you here) who often conclude that people coming off as MAGA or otherwise right-wing extremists are "just trolling" or "putting on a faade", however I find it more incredulous to believe that none of those people are online and sincerely giving their "beliefs".

These people are real and they are among us.

I watched the first 2 seasons long ago, it's a cool and unique show in what they do. Basically Criminal Minds meets Minority Report and heavily delves into philosophy/philosophers as well as poetry and text on human nature.

Actually been rewatching them with a friend, not far enough for the movie, however I may just see it anyways.

She could have just called him a socialist and been done with it but she explicitly compares him to well liked presidents and talks about the programs he's putting out there to help all manner of people. If I didn't know who she was, without the rambling at the end about debt, I would think this was an explicit endorsement.

It's because for the modern conservative, all of those things are bad and should be demonized, even if they personally benefit from SSI or Medicare. For the average person, they see it as a big wtf. Like DeSantis, they often get engrossed in pandering to their base, which alienates most of the country because their views are reprehensible.

Personally, this is why I find "refusal of service" anti-discriminatory laws to be just as pointless as the ones that are supposed to keep you from being fired over discriminatory reasons, for basically the same reason: owners/employers can just make up their own shit for why they're doing it anyway. They can fire or refuse to serve you for your race/sexuality/whatever and just say it was because of something else. The laws basically don't do anything other than keep the bigots from being able to say out loud that they're bigots.

I live in an "at -will-employment" state, so I definitely understand employers coming up with whatever stupid reason to justify firing people to avoid discriminatory practices, however I still think it's better to have the practices/laws than not. At least with that you can try and document evidence for why you were actually fired, however without any sort of class protection then even that is useless.
