I'm not even sure if I'd confidently claim "most people would know that a pizza has far more than 350 calories." Really not sure what percentage of people look at nutritional labels and/or have a basic understanding of caloric values. Also, the whole pizza is advertised (in both picture and price), but the calories per slice are not. It is pretty misleading.

Basically, I think it's uncool to dunk on TC. Everyone's gotta start somewhere.

But Martinet is being given a much more cordial and generous send-off, so he wouldn't have as much of a leg to stand on if he did decry Nintendo's decision. According to the press statement, it sounds like he really is gonna get paid to just chill. It's a nice gesture from Nintendo - I'm just saying I'd first presume that their motives in doing so are more self-serving than anything.

Nintendo didn't need to ever get him in the movie, they didn't need to make this press announcement, and they didn't need to do whatever video is going to come out soon. But they went out of their way to do so because I think they genuinely appreciate Charles Martinet.
It could be that combined with Nintendo having enough sense to realize they'd face a ton of blowback if they unceremoniously dumped the guy. Isn't that what happened with Konami and David Hayter?

Ms Pac Man

I understand that Ms. Pac-Man was important and popular in the early 80s, but putting her on a Mt. Rushmore when she's barely been relevant for four decades? That seems like a stretch when other characters have maintained relevancy and popularity for so much longer.

Anyway, I think Peach gets a secured spot because she's evolved from the traditional damsel in distress into her own character with agency and starring roles. She's been playable for over 3 decades in tons of different genres, remains highly relevant in gaming, and is probably the most recognizable female character of all. She just had a starring role in one of the most popular animated films ever.

Actually, you're right. I was mistaken and thought the original TR came out a couple years after RE. I also looked it up and learned that TR collectively has sold 95 million games, an enormous sum that places it amongst the bigger gaming franchises ever. Lara may not be nearly as relevant as she was 20 years ago, but based on her pedigree and main-character status, I'd say she stands alongside Samus and above pretty much any other female gaming character.

Samus
Lara
Peach

Then either Jill or Chun-Li.

Even if they arent super common, its not like people havent heard of them.

It also depends on the location and "brand" of parlor. If this happened at a place like Massage Envy, then yes, it's very surprising. If it's a place with a sign titled SPA in Chinatown, it would be far more surprising if it *didn't* offer happy endings as a regular service. I'm not trying to be insensitive, that's just the reality of the situation. I live in the Vegas suburbs and there are literally hundreds of places to get a discreet hj in and around Chinatown here - same for many other major cities.

ArchNemo posted...
Thing is, a lot of these women aren't working at massage parlors for shits and giggles, they're doing it because they have no other option

This is something that does concern me, believe it or not, but for anyone grappling with the morality of the situation and trying to rationalize an "ethical" handjob, there are signs. Make sure to visit a parlor with regular hours, with middle aged women working there, and ideally with professional massage licenses displayed on the wall. The masseuse I occasionally visit to take the edge off is licensed, a legal US resident, works 10-5, probably around 45 years old, and drives a fancy BMW. She isn't an exploited victim of sex trafficking. She's an independent businessperson with agency who decided that she's willing to give handjobs in order to get rich.

Anyway, I wrote all this to demonstrate that I actually do know about this industry from personal experience, and this story just doesn't meet the smell test. I'm more likely to believe that he was seeking retribution after a dispute than he was sexually assaulted.

Also, annuities become worse the more interest rates increase, so anyone who has an annuity during a time of spiraling interest rates is kinda getting hosed.

Even in california Newsom gets a LOT of hate. I live in one of the more purple/red areas in the Central Valley and there is a lot of people who are full red pill and absolutely hate Newsom for reasons they don't even understand.
Newson crushed that failed recall election and then won his 2022 relection with nearly identical percentages to DeSantis's win in Florida (a win that was hailed as a landslide and temporarily catapaulted DeSantis to the top of the GOP field). He's really popular in CA despite the efforts there to paint him as an out-of-touch San Francisco elitist or loon.

I understand the importance of national optics - ideally, you nominate a candidate who checks as many boxes as possible, and perhaps Newsom's being from CA isn't as beneficial as if he were from Ohio or Georgia. However, I feel that there's an even bigger risk in trying to play "build-a-candidate" like that. If the person themselves is just a lifeless husk, you wind up with someone *like* DeSantis, who checks all those boxes but is flopping bigtime on the national stage. Obama was also from a blue state, and specifically from a city about as reviled amongst conservatives as SF or LA. You gotta look at what the actual candidate brings to the table, and Newsom is at least willing to take the fight to Republicans and call them out on some of their bullshit.

The thing that concerns me with Newsom is that being Governor of California it'll probably be all too easy to paint him as "some crazy liberal, san francisco overflowing with crime and homeless people, etc" tripe that's been part of the Republican playbook for decades and that 35-40% of the country will just buy it for no other reason than "California."
Among a million other slanderous attempts, Republicans tried to do the same against Obama, painting him as a product of corrupt Chicago politics. Strong candidates have the ability to rise above attacks like that. Newsom is good in front of a camera, actually has some progressive things he can tout as CA governor, will likely have the upper hand in debates, and is already campaigning in an aggressive way not usually seen amongst Democrafts (he ran ads in Florida, I mean come on lol). I may be overselling the guy here, but I think he he's got way more potential (and fewer negatives) as a national candidate than the likes of Hillary, John Kerry, and Biden.

I agree with Tony that Newsom would be a strong candidate (in 2028), certainly the strongest Dems would have fielded since Obama. He's cunning and really did eat Hannity's lunch on the guy's own show, so he'd have a huge leg-up on the post-Trump Republican detritus.

Speaking again toward the future, a part of me does wish that the Democrat old guard will graciously fade away, because the emergent names mentioned in the last few posts like Warnock, AOC, and Whitmer actually inspire some optimism in me.

There was little palpable excitement for him in 2020, yet he won. I'll reiterate that Biden is not a strong candidate (he ran twice before and was barely an afterthought), but he has the incumbency advantage now, as well as major benefit of running against an embarrassing dumpsterfire of a political organization in the MAGA GOP.

There's also the simple - if not admittedly unpalatable - realization that he's the best we got if the goal is another four years in the white house.

Biden is not a strong incumbant, but he wasn't a strong candidate in 2020 and still won. I'd never say anything so presumptuous like "Dems have it in the bag," but I do consider Biden a big favorite as long as his health doesn't take a turn for the worse.

I also disagree with the notion that all of these indictments will wind up galvanizing people toward Trump. This is horrible for him.

I've tried to refrain from snacking and usually restrict my eating to two (large) meals per day. I feel like it has had a positive impact toward my health overall. One unintended benefit has been my teeth - I didn't realize that one of the main reasons dental problems occur is due to the change in natural oral pH levels. People who snack or drink (things apart from water) all day will never give their mouth time to reacclimate to its natural pH level. Per my dentist: if you're gonna eat an enormous bag of candy, it's way better to just down it all in one sitting rather than snack on it all day.

My teeth and gums are the healthiest they've ever been, so I'm gonna try to maintain this routine for as long as I can.
