Yeah it feels like you're framing this as if Allen had an equity stake in GameFAQs or something. He was an employee. For all we know, he pitched other ideas over the years that were shut down. It's not like an employee can do much apart from their job, and "having foresight to completely change the site to keep it relevant for three decades" is not a reasonable part of any employee's job description. Which 90s websites are still relevant in general? Even the juggernauts like IGN and GameSpot are shrunken husks of their former selves.

Also, it would be pretty revisionist to ignore the fact that back in the day, we as a community would lose our shit whenever the tiniest change *was* implemented around here.

I only read the first book, and that was several years ago, but one part that stood out to me was Gandalf's reluctance to use even a tiny bit of his power if it could be helped. IIRC, he was hesitant to start a campfire while everyone was freezing on the huge mountain Caradhras. His rationale was that using his magic even for something that simple would give his (and thus the Fellowship's) location away.

someone who actually cared about building this brand and not just coasting could have kept this place relevant I think.
Do you have any ideas as to how someone could have kept text-based guides and message boards relevant? If anything, Allen should be commended for staying at the helm as long as he did, especially when it comes to the contests, which were CJayC's project that Allen never really needed to maintain (and I think we can more easily admit that now since we're all older and know what work obligation is like). I care about this place plenty, and if I were in Allen's shoes, I may have said "fuck these contests" after Draven.

I'm glad to see you having such a positive outlook! Thank you for wearing that cap as long as you did, and for giving us contests for 13 years after CJayC left. I know running those wasn't easy.

And on a personal note, thank you for acquiescing and accepting some of my crazier contest pic submissions during my shortlived artistic spell. Here's the one I never thought would make it on GameFAQs's front page, but you snuck it in!

True. Allen was the only link we had to the old days, and obviously the only representation we had with this new owner. Unless I'm mistaken, the only remaining Admin - and thus the only connection between Fandom and the GameFAQs userbase - is the new guy DToast. I don't know anything about him apart from his own introduction post, but he's a 26-year-old who never visited this site before he started to work as an Admin.

TopicWhich of these two life scenarios would you choose for yourself?
YoBlazer
10/15/23 9:58:53 PM
#1
Regarding the first option, your life partner is as close to "perfect" for you as possible. You support each other, have personalities and senses of humor that compliment each other wonderfully, and get along great. An argument between the two of you is practically impossible. Conversations are rich, traveling together is fun, and building a life together is fulfilling. You can never engage in any sexual activity with this person (or anyone else) for the rest of your life, not even intimate kissing. If you want kids and don't already have them, you'll need to adopt.

Regarding the second option, you'll find that you are seen as more sexually attractive to your desired sex(es), and your opportunity for trysts increases. You have as dynamic a sex life as you want, and while you can still persue short-term relationships with people (meaning you can still travel with and attend functions with them), they rarely last more than a couple months, and you never find "the one" forever life partner. If you want kids, you'll likely be raising them as a single parent.

Blacktail wins on an initial playthrough because it has clear advantages in every non-power category for the entire game. The Red9's advantage in power only becomes notable with the Exclusive upgrade, which isn't available until like 75% through the game. Where the Red9 truly shines is in NG+, where it's definitely one of RE4's funnest weapons.

Has a reputable news source reported on this? We know that Hamas invaded a music festival and murdered and kidnapped people there. They also seemingly shot and murdered Israelis indiscriminately. These are all reprehensible acts, but where would they have found *40 babies* apart from a children's hospital? If they would have invaded and taken over an Israeli hospital, I feel like it would have been reported all over the news.

I think you'd need to know to an absolute certainty that jeans are okay before it would be socially acceptable to wear them at a wedding. Even for something more casual, like a beach wedding, something specific like khakis and sandals are the norm, not jeans. Basically, unless you're certain it's ok to dress that casually, dress up to a wedding.

Great take. Matilda is literally saved by Leon, so she places all of her faith and love in him. Leon, having spent his entire adult life a cold, isolated killer (and virgin) is confounded by this. He initially orders Matilda to leave and even contemplates killing her in her sleep (gun to her head and everything) so as not to disrupt the life he has gotten so used to. In the end, he accepts her into his life and cares for her, but in a tender fatherly way. In their goodbye scene, Reno definitely plays it as a father saying goodbye to his daughter. It's uncomfortable yes, but discomfort is bound to arise from such a fucked up situation.

I don't think suspending the boys and supporting the girls equates to "ignoring the victims." Other failsafes can also be implemented, like ensuring the perpetrators and victims aren't in the same classes (since they are apparently in different grades, this shouldn't be difficult to accomplish). Expulsion isn't the only way to support the girls here.

Yeah, my take is that the school does have the authority and should get involved. These are students, and any actions that may harm their classmates does become a school issue, regardless of where it takes place.

I think the boys should be punished, but I'm unsure about the severity of the punishment. Again, expulsion is a serious matter - the strictest disciplinary action a school district can impose. Also, expulsion often prohibits students from attending any school in that entire district, so it could be a life-altering punishment for the boys' families in that sense. I am sympathetic to the argument that the victimized girls may have also had their lives altered and may no longer feel safe at school, but I again question the rush to demand expulsion as a punishment. Victims of bullying may also feel unsafe (or at least uncomfortable) at school. Should we expell all bullies?

Yeah, the article isn't completely clear on this point. It states that the boys "took" the pictures without the girls' consent. That suggests the boys did personally snap the pictures, but it could also mean the boys "took" them from the girls' social media accounts and shared them with each other. I definitely feel a stricter punishment is warranted for the former scenario versus the latter.
