The way persona 4 handled Kanji and Naoto was far from perfect. Yet I don't think it was intentionally malicious ether. They are both young teens still understanding themselves and the roles society placed on them. Kanji's beliefs of sensuality and masculinity were being questioned as he didn't fit them. He had to come to terms that he didn't fit traditional masculinity, that he had interests that were generally seen as feminine. His first crush apparently being male was enough to break him. Yeah he turned out not being gay but the important thing was that he learned to accept that he can have interests that society thinks are feminine, and that's okay. So his story isn't purely conservative ether as it argues against traditional gender roles.

Same thing with Naoto. Yeah it treats the situations of transitioning as body horror, something akin to a bad scientist experimenting on a body and that is transphobic today but I also don't thing there is any ill intent in place. Once again her story is about society and how it forces people to fit into traditional roles and being able to accept yourself, rather then force yourself into that role. Because she doesn't fit traditional feminine traits she has felt resentment from adults and society and her Shadow self twisted that into body horror.

It's not about them being gay or trans it's about them not fitting the ridged gender constraints of a conservative society. Or at least that's my take away.

I love both games.

No, not every game needs to be the same. I don't want to play a character made by myself in every game.

Despite sharing some similarities, Skyrim and The Witcher 3 are different games. Both have their pros and cons and it depends on personal preference what each one of us prefers (or like in my case, love both styles).

Some stories are better told with pre-made characters, who have specific backstories and relationships with other characters (friends, foes and others). You can't replicate such stories the same way with characters you make on your own.

I like playing characters that I've made myself in the character creation. And I like to roleplay with different kind of builds in certain games (like Fallout and Skyrim). But I also see the advantages of pre-made characters and can enjoy such stories at least as much, if not even more if the story is very good (which is the case in The Witcher 3).

What if we have both?
Premade characters with character customization as extensive as character creation?
