Fortunately, Dragonquest is largely owned by Yuji Horii and Akira Toriyama, so it's safe when Squeenix inevitably implodes.

Wouldn't that just have the opposite problem though? You'd be removing the gore and brutality for those that want to see it. A toggle would be the ideal scenario, but that just may not be feasible for them without significantly altering the game mechanics.

No, it really cant. You can turn off blood, fine but the X-Ray attacks will still show it. Even if you black out the X-Ray attacks, the story scenes (in-game renders or cinematics) will damn sure show plenty of it, thus rendering the option pointless.

What do you want them to do, redo second versions of all the story scenes without gore? Have the scenes skip gory bits if the option is turned on, thus making the player miss probably 30% or more of the story?

Its like none of the people arguing in favor of this took a second to think about how intertwined into all elements of the game the gore is, and thus how feasible it would be to remove them from a technical standpoint, what youd be left with, etc.
