You never wrote it in kanji, but since you are bringing up the katakana it's pronounced the same way so I'm not sure what your point is. The series calls itself and it's done for the pun on Alice in Wonderland. The pronunciation is Arisu either way so I am not sure what the point is.

It was always kind of in the books once they showed the joker card.

There are no loose end in the manga, the joker card is a real character that explains his role in the game.
They removed him in the live action so it can be a sequel hook.

Oh yeah, that mini series. That can work but as a direct sequel it might be not as thrilling. Audience usually asked a bigger, more violent scene for a sequel.
It was made to have a more positive look, with everyone should be easily survive if they cooperated instead of trying to kill each other.

The manga has side stories and apparently one of them involves a girl actually named Alice. I think it's feasible because there were so many games going on that we didn't get to see so you can follow other survivors/contestants and see how they fared.

That side story is a whole different story, and it's "border road" not border land.
