While this is true, they are absolutely a product of their time, and said intent that may have once been seen as "wholesome" may not actually have been so wholesome. Was their intent in how they portrayed certain people, like natives, or the jive talking crows, seen as problematic back then? No. But over time, it became accepted... The prince is barely in the movie... he shows up at the beginning to flirt with Snow White at the well and that's it. And it's obvious from their interaction that Snow is infatuated with him. Then he shows up again at the end to wake her up. Saying he stalks her is just blatantly untrue, so Rachel is either confused or deliberating misconstruing the movie. :v

I don't think it's that crazy to suggest they should have found someone who actually appreciates the legacy of the original to play Snow White. But I'll admit I'm biased since it's my favorite childhood movie...

Yea, unless you live in a big city you can't expect your local library to have everything, but if you use the online catalog they have pretty much everything. :v

you don't actually need to buy books and movies... you can just go to the library and borrow them. :v If they don't have them on site, you can use the computer system and have them sent to you from libraries that do have it. They let you take this stuff home for free. You just need a library card. It almost feels wrong somehow.

Saturday. :v People are playing around with this covid stuff too much, each time you get covid your risk of long term complications from it rise. Getting the booster is the best thing you can do to prevent that.

Well, my mom eventually made me stop doing girly things. :v She was worried it was going to "make me gay" and pushed me away from everything like that. But if the conversation around it had been different like it is today versus the 90s, and she'd supported me being feminine to avoid me being labeled as "gay", I don't know what would have happened.

well, from personal experience really. When I was young, I was a very effeminate boy who wanted to wear dresses and be called "cinderella" and all that stuff. :v but I grew out of it because I was just gay not trans. It just makes me wonder if in today's environment I would have been put on blockers and then hormones and have to live with that the rest of my life.

And my mom was not very accepting of me being gay at all when I was young (she's changed since then though), what if to her, it would have been preferable to have a daughter instead of a gay son? If as a child she told me that I really was a girl, I probably would have went along with it.

That's probably TMI and all, but I really could see myself in that sort of situation and it's scary.

That is what your supporting: telling trans youth that they should be forced through the wrong puberty because you think you know more than medical professionals because a handful of 2% of a group got it wrong.

That is true... it's a complicated issue at the end of the day. :v I don't know the right answer really. I suppose if puberty blockers are actually the right course of action it'll just become more apparent as time goes on. It's just a hard sell for me and I get why it's so divisive for people.

Kids don't get pumped full of hormones the next day after their friends said it was cool. There's an established standard of care and many years of therapy/doctor visits before a kid will ever begin medical transition. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about and should probably educate yourself before you join a discussion

It's a nuanced conversation. Like, assuming that doctors are automatically correct is a dangerous mindset. Lobotomies were once cutting edge best in practice medical treatment too. And before that drilling holes in people's skulls to relieve pressure.

I think the big issue most people have with it is the stuff involving kids. :v Up till recently, it was unheard of for kids to be put on puberty blockers and hormones and stuff like that. Trans people have always had to wait for adulthood and then taken the steps to transition. We don't let kids drive till their sixteen or drink till they're 21. So the idea of letting them decide to put the breaks on puberty because of how they identify is going to sound crazy to most people. It's an alienating issue for even otherwise liberal people.

Like, if a 14 year old girl decides she wants a baby the sensible thing isn't to tell them to go do it.

I think the root of it is, letting kids get on puberty blockers and/or hormones is a bridge too far for the older generations.

lol I thought it was a totally normal thing until I told my friends about how I sometimes play with my uvula w/ the tip of my tongue when I am thinking and they were like "what?? You can touch that with your tongue??" But yeah I can easily touch my tonsils, uvula, back of my throat, even the holes connecting each nostril to your mouth.
