I'm not defending their actions in any way but I'm just sayin' when wealth disparity is so big in America and so many people suffer from it these type of things are going to occur more and more often, what do you expect in a system so corrupt and broken.

Desperate victims of society, struggling as best they can in this oppressive system, having to go against their own morals just to put a couple pieces of bread on the table, and it's still not enough. They don't want to steal, but the oppressive system leaves them with no choice.

back in the day no one robbed trucks. you would only see it in heist movies, and the writers of those movies came up with those scenarios out of nowhere. they were never inspired by real life events. but now society is declining and people steal from trucks. these people should get the death penalty. i am a liberal, btw.

When people were robbing trucks back in the day, were they criminals, or poor oppressed victims of society doing what they must to feed their starving families the handful of crumbs their crimes would afford them?

I don't think enabling companies to ease up on fighting back is gonna help. Employees should not be put at risk.

But don't be surprised small businesses start fighting back, because that's where you see the biggest pushbacks. They can't afford losses like Walmart, despite what idiots claim.

If the excuse is that these people are desperate, then it's a two way street and small businesses will become desperate and fight back, like that owner and employee who the beat the shit out of that guy stealing cigs from a 7-11 a few months back. 7-11s are essentially small businesses since they're franchised. Actually, that wasn't even the only incident. Another employee at a 7-11 flipped over the thief and started beating the shit out of him in the summer.

Or that restaurant owner and a customer beating the shit out of 3 dudes trying to rob the place a couple of months
back.

All of this will just end with more police presence eventually.

He's maintained the same quality level of posting since, he's probably very happy that no one can see 261 anymore.

When people are desperate enough they don't care about the punishment. Plus our current punishments don't even work as jails don't try to rehabilitate anyway. Locking people away doesn't solve the problem. I'm not saying go light on crime, I'm saying deal with the source. Why are people stealing and how do we solve it?

Cigarettes are expensive. If you get that many you could easily resell them for about $5 a pack for a massive profit then use that money to buy food.

Also people are using this to attack California acting like no one would try this in a red state. Yet that same search I did to see if these guys got caught? Brought up multiple robberies of cigarettes in states like Texas.

They were arrested but how long will they be in jail? Most of these people are repeat offenders who get released only to do it again because the "consequences" are not severe in the least, hence they knew they would get away with it.

Oh, they've increased, it's just not the hellscape levels that retailers are trying to claim. As the one article pointed out, these places are failing due to their own ineptitude, but why admit that when you can vaguely blame shoplifting? That doesn't mean wage inequality and corporate theft aren't the root for cavalier shop lifting. They don't conflict.

And if you bothered to watch the video the topic is about, the thieves are in no hurry, casually and methodically loading the cigarettes into the car. They could have done this with alcohol.

The idea that they are are such boozehounds to commit blatant theft, and not rob the thing they supposedly want directly (alcohol) is stupid. And naive to not realize they are committing theft for economic means.

Hell, why not just assume they are addicted to smoking and will keeps.the cigarettes for themselves? At least that's logically constant.

Not only that, it also inconvenience employees who have to do alternate approaches to keep products safe by putting stuff under lock and key. Customer trust? That died in the 90s.
