Who the hell buys this shit lol The same people who have been playing it since they were in college. They enjoyed the game then, and it's the same game now, so they still enjoy it. I personally think it's a dumpster fire and a cancer on the industry, but I'm not sure which side bothers me more. The company that's doing what any company should, make as much money as possible with the least expenditure and effort? Or the players who keep supporting them because they just want to play a decent football game and Madden is kinda the only one available? Written fiction and art does not have to be consistent with itself. Computer models like video games are an order higher, but the hardware it runs on still relies on the physical laws of our own universe. It's neither self-arising or self-contained. It's not self-sufficient either because it required a programmer to make it and a power outlet to power it. While I mostly agree with this, there's a couple important things to remember.
It's like the difference between scientific fluid dynamics simulations and Halo: Combat Evolved. They're both simulations, but one of them takes a whole lot more liberty with the rules of physics for the sake of fun. But I had a really bad gag reflex (still do, tbh) and kept throwing up every time they tried to take a mold of my teeth, ruining the mold. Gave up after the 3rd time puking on myself in the chair, and stopped even bothering to brush/floss regularly. By the time I was in my early 20's, like half of my teeth were cracked/broken or just completely rotted out. I rarely talked and never smiled in public because it was just too embarrassing. When my brother asked me to be his Best Man in his wedding, I finally decided to do something about it because I wasn't going to be the only one who refused to smile in my brother's wedding pictures. Found a dentist and oral surgeon, they took a mold (which still took 2 tries despite being older and having a bit more self control), and we decided to go with dental implants. The surgeon pulled 15 teeth in one go, then put 5 titanium screws into my jawbone where the implants would attach. Took a little over a year from the time of consultation to walking out of the dentist's office with a brand new smile. Probably the best decision of my life, I only wish I had been able to do it sooner. To this day, more than a decade later, I still get compliments regularly from people saying how much they love that I've always got such a big smile on, no matter the situation. But they're constantly pumping out updates to improve the new player experience. Like holy shit, I didn't get to have a smartphone at level 10! Sure, it's nice to have in later levels too, but the rate you gain ability points at end-game is terrible so I'll never be able to master it as quick as a newbie who just started playing. And besides, it's almost all been USER GENERATED CONTENT! We haven't heard a peep from the devs in like, what, 2000 years now? Does he even remember people still play this? What about a level cap increase, huh?? It's such a simple change that the end-game playerbase would LOVE, and everyone's been screaming about it for ages, but we get nothing. I've been grinding it for years, but it's just gotten so stale lately. I kinda wish I could take a break until the next expansion comes out, then pick it back up again.
