Current car I bought almost 10 years ago cost ~$23k, so maybe around there. I'd spend a lot more if the resale value is high enough. Since it's a car, that's unlikely to happen.

I picked the merchant/Partitio first, since I figured that having the merchant early would let me scale up money quickly throughout the game, and I recall the job being quite strong in the original.

I beat the game the other day, and I view Octopath 2 as simply a better version than 1 in most ways. It looks much better, stories are on average better, and there is a good bit of polishing and quality of life updates, such as being able to have multiple people use the same subjob, as well as the existence of ex skills.

I do have a few nitpicks, though - If you are sprinting (increases encounter rate) + fighting at night, the encounter rate is a bit high. Random encounters are also not very balanced - Eventually, you can beat all random encounters within the first turn, before any enemy can act. The gameplay ends up coming from story encounters and boss fights, which are paced pretty well if you do not explore overleveled areas.

Most of the jobs are pretty fun, though some are a bit niche now. Every character is strong, really only gated by how much babysitting/setup they require.

Immunity to paying taxes might save me more throughout my life, but a good $700k bump now will easily be able to speed up my investments now. Money at a younger age is more valuable. There's also a good chance the $700k will save me more by utilizing tax codes and investing wisely.

It sounds like a person, but still not as good as actual voice actors. This can be abused, which is bad. Optimally, it would help provide voices to background NPCs that wouldn't get voiced lines anyways.

Even so, people whose voice data get trained by AI should be compensated in some way.

Rats and hawks.

Rats have so many numbers it's ridiculous. It's a no brainer. 500-1000 would've been a tougher call.
After, it depends on how close they are to you initially and surrounding terrain/buildings.

The hunter is the smartest and would kill you the easiest, so choosing them or something that can defend you against them (meat shield) like Gorillas and bears. Hawks might be the only one that can reasonably take care of the hunter, though.

Eventually, you'll memorize all of the potential encounters. You want to strategize your cards for the elites and boss in that act, while keeping future encounters in mind on later ones. Burst is great for most of the game, but then you want to have some cards that scale your power quickly (slow scaling is bad).

Adding a card tends to devalue the rest of the cards in the deck in favor of itself. If you already have some great cards, be careful with adding new ones that are worse than cards you already have. If you don't, you may need more cards to fill some niche. Moderately big decks are still good, but it depends on the value new cards add for you.

That's really it.

It's how they were taught, along with the political takeover from the last 100 years.

It's also another layer of hierarchical thinking / capitalism where, instead of explaining the cause of people's problems, dance around them and then point to faith to endure the pain.

In the Bible, many characters are judged for their actions, so that indirectly leads people to judge others for their perceived actions, despite them not having the authority to do so under their own religion.

If we lived in a systemically more just society, religion probably would've followed suit.

How's capitalism helping any of us right now? Even now, there's a bunch of layoffs going on.

It's really difficult to get promoted at a company just by being skilled. You need to switch jobs every few years to optimize your path. We feel more like mercenaries rather than actually being a part of society properly. We all just work for a wage that has demonstrably worse buying power than in the past.

We also hear more about the situations in other countries, broadening our awareness.

and by this time next year, i expect to be an actual Democrat.

in literally 25 years. that seems insane, in hindsight.

Perhaps you are more of a libertarian socialist, which is at odds with people who typically label themselves as libertarian?

I was raised somewhat centrist - In a religious African American household. The parts that were left-wing were due to necessity from being a minority, so it was overall right wing.

When I was young, I was so baffled how Bush Jr. won the presidency when he sounded like an idiot. Then we had to go through forever wars, and it seemed like there was much more outward lunacy (racism towards brown people) that I never noticed in the 90s. Then he won again in 2004.

I was still stubbornly apolitical (ugh) all the way until covid, though I did vote for Democrats once I could. There were a few other factors:

-My partner convinced me that being pro-choice was the correct path
-I became further disgusted by the institution of the church, and the fact that church leadership never calls out the numerous cases of corruption and misconduct.
-Increasing levels of class consciousness as I see so many of my friends struggle.

It's evil in a capitalist society, since artists' livelihoods are greatly affected by the introduction of these AIs. Their datasets can be derived by a ton of artists without their consent.

Ideally, AI would be an immensely useful tool to reduce the mundane parts of the work and assist artists with creating greater amounts of high quality work. It would also be able to help people who are not artists create some basic art for their own needs. However, right now, it's essentially just stealing.

If investments as a whole worked more directly in the creation of a product or service such as Kickstarter (but of course, not exactly like it), it would be much better.

However, we need to feed our money into 401ks and watch it rollercoaster up and down during every boom-bust cycle.
