Correct term is a derivative action. Shareholders cannot sue their own company (cause that would be like suing yourself) so there is no such thing as a "shareholder suit." Instead, shareholders can apply to court for leave to act on behalf of the company and sue those who have wronged the company, including the company's own directors and officers.

It's still ten times what their own company is worth. Directors owe a fiduciary duty to the shareholders to do what is in the company's best interest. Not taking this settlement, which is guaranteed money as opposed to rolling the dice at trial for $1.6 billion, would arguably have been a breach of their duty.

Militarily speaking, I don't think any other state comes close.

That's what I said. Most of the time, the client is the reason why cases that should settle don't until the eve of trial.

Nah, if you are represented by competent lawyers, a large number of cases settle once discovery of evidence is done. Cases that settle on the eve of trial is generally rarer and most likely due to clients playing a game of chicken.

Every time I attend a sporting event where they sing the national anthems of both the USA and Canada, the American anthem, when sung by just a single singer, pumps me up and makes me feel patriotic, even though I'm not even an American, while the Canadian anthem requires the home crowd support to match.

Music is supposed to be subjective, but I almost want to say the Star-Spangled Banner is objectively better than O Canada.

Without the temptation of money, I would argue most people are "good".

However, once you involve money in the equation in any way, shape, or form, most people turn "bad" pretty quickly.
