Okay, I've played a little bit of DRV3 Case 5's Class Trial, and that's very clearly not Kokichi in that Exisal, which reinforces my suspicion that he and Kaito are both dead. I'm feeling more and more confident that it's Rantaro. He's "confessing" as Kokichi to get everyone to vote for him so they'll all be killed due to voting for the wrong person, but Shuichi is the only one who notices how odd he's acting. He claims to have a video of the moment of Kaito's death, but that's impossible since the hydraulic press can't kill living organisms, so he must have already been dead. It does confirm that Kaito is one of the victims. I'd say it's a rough way to go, but he was already dead, I suppose. Maki has been adamant all along that Kaito was the one crushed by the press, so it makes me wonder if she saw it. Maybe she was in the green Exisal after she disabled it, although I don't know how she'd have managed to get out unnoticed.

Majora's Mask is the first Zelda I ever beat, but I did play Ocarina of Time first.

But yeah, I imagine Majora's Mask is an unusual first Zelda game since its popularity is derived from being a follow-up to OoT. It's the same reason I think FFVIII probably wasn't a lot of people's first FF!

That time where Ross struggled to remember all 50 states

This is a classic "Ross isn't as smart as he thinks he is" moment for the show. Actually, my family and I tried the "name all the states in 6 minutes" game after seeing this episode, and even as someone who can say with confidence that they do, in fact, know all 50 states, the pressure of the time limit does make it tough to make sure you got them all, especially if you're just listing states at random as they come to mind and not in any discernible order. As an added challenge, we also did "name all 50 state capitals." Yes, I am a nerd, but why else would I be here if I weren't?

Chandler's dramatic weight loss from the last episode of season 6 to the first episode of season 7 considering both episodes were set the same night

No one's appearance changed more from season to season than Chandler's. It'd almost be funny if it weren't the result of Matthew Perry's addictions, so I get why none of the characters ever draw attention to it. It was kind of tough watching him in the Friends reunion because it doesn't seem like he's aged well (although he said his speech problems were the result of some dental work he had done shortly before it was taped or something like that). This is a particularly jarring example though because, as you said, the first episode of season 7 is the direct aftermath of the season 6 finale.

This was a great self-contained gag. If I've watched this episode recently, I'll probably find myself imitating the "fingers to temple" gesture Ross does every time he says "Unagi." I did it right now, and perhaps you did, too, as you recalled it...! I've never had unagi before, but I'm not a big sushi guy. The best part of this episode might actually be the end where Ross asks the self-defense coach how to escape from his moves so he can attack his ex-wife, and Ross plays it completely straight despite the guy clearly thinking he's unhinged.

the forever Friends vs Seinfeld debate

I get why these two are often compared since they're the two biggest sitcoms of the '90s, but I don't feel like they're all that similar other than both being sitcoms. The appeal of the two shows is different. Seinfeld popularized the "It's funny because all the main characters are terrible people" subgenre of sitcom, and there's very little drama or heartwarming moments. Friends is more of a feel-good type of sitcom, where you root for the characters and you find satisfaction in their triumphs and their growth over the course of the show. I love both shows, but I'd side with Friends overall. It's a show I always find myself coming back to, for one reason or another.

And there's the big reveal of DRV3 Case 5. Kokichi tells us that he's the real mastermind (which I sorta called. He was telling us the whole time, but because he lied about everything else, nobody believed him). The 16 Ultimates are all that's left of humanity, and they were sent into space to find another world...except Kokichi infiltrated the project with Monokuma and sent the Ark back to the ruined Earth. I wonder what talent he claimed to have to get into the project because I doubt Ultimate Evil Supreme Leader would get you on board.

He also explains the flashbacks we've seen so far. The Ultimates originally refused to participate in the plan because they didn't want to leave everyone else to die while they survived, so they wiped their own memories. Kokichi's organization tried to hunt them down, but whoever was behind the Gofer Project hid them and told everyone they had died so they could go forward with the project as planned.

Kokichi says the killing game is over and there's nothing left to do, and that...sounds about right. Makes me wonder what the rest of the game will even do!

I started on DRV3 Case 5. Lots of interesting developments right away. With the new keys, we find Rantaro's Lab, which it never occurred to me that he would have one since he died right away. Monokuma says a lab is locked up if its owner is killed before it's discovered, so we can't enter, but the design on the door certainly is suggestive. It's a bunch of weapons painted in red. Makes me think he might be...the Ultimate Serial Killer or something along those lines? It'd be fitting for it to be next to Shuichi's, if that's the case.

We also find Kaito's lab, where we also discover documents about the aforementioned Project Gofer. Maki mentions that Noah's Ark was built from gofer wood, which makes me wonder if the project was to take the Ultimates to find and repopulate another world. Talking to Tsumugi, she remembered how Gonta said the stars don't look the same as what he's used to, so maybe we're already on another world. Somehow Monokuma has managed to hijack the project, so I guess it failed in the end.

Then we found the Exisals Hangar, and there's a hydraulic press that's designed to stop operations if it detects organic life. This prompts Keebo to want to see if it'll respond to him, and it doesn't. Feels like you're raising some death flags there, dude, but we'll see! No one has seen Kokichi since the end of Gonta's trial, and speaking of which, we still haven't found his lab.

Chandler/Rachel chemistry/plot lines e.g. Rachel setting up Chandler with boss, cheesecake

This is honestly the most underrated and underutilized pairing in the show. Every single Chandler/Rachel storyline is good. I think it largely works because there's no romantic tension between the two (other than that flashback episode where they didn't know each other at the time, and that scene lasted for like 10 seconds anyway), so they get to be "just friends." Plus, their senses of humor complement each other well, so they take jabs at each other, but it never results in serious anger or hurt feelings. To me, the most memorable Chandler/Rachel interaction is when she handcuffs him to the filing cabinet and he yanks out the drawer and hits himself in the head (which wasn't supposed to happen, both actors' reactions to it are genuine).

This is probably Monica's best comedic bit. I've often wondered what the seven erogenous zones are supposed to be. I even Googled it once, and I couldn't find any conclusive answer. I thought about taking notes and following her recommended order, but alas! The look on Chandler's face when she finishes is priceless. It also worked out for Monica in the long run because then they get together and Chandler becomes the best sex she's ever had.

Hank Azaria's run on the show is interesting. He shows up sporadically throughout the series as Phoebe's love interest, and even though he's awkward and nerdy, it kinda works. He's different from the guys she usually tends to date, and her feelings for him seem genuine, to boot. It just feels like it's destined not to work, which makes it bittersweet in a way. Then it becomes kinda weird when they bring him back to be a romantic rival for Mike, especially since David ultimately gets shot down when he tries to propose to her, so when they could have actually finally been together, Phoebe has already found somebody else. Tough break, David.

He might be the best of the minor recurring characters, and he's definitely the best of the parents. I don't know if I have any particular scene of his that I like above the rest. I just know I'm going to laugh every time he appears on screen.

DRV3 Case 4 beated! Poor Gonta. I get that Kokichi manipulated him into doing it, but he was only willing to go along with it because of what he saw in that Memory Flashlight. Makes me wonder just how bad the outside world actually is at this point. Kokichi declares he's going to finish the killing game with the next round, but now I think he's going to become the next victim. Feels like his character has run its course, unless he's actually the mastermind (which is still possible).

On the other hand, I imagine there's one, maybe two cases at most left, and we've still got 7 people remaining. The rules of the game say it only ends when there's two left, so either we're going to finish with our usual 5 or 6, or we're going to have multiple victims ahead. I'll be interested to see which way it goes.

Continuing the class trial in DRV3 Case 4, Kokichi "confesses" that he and Gonta worked together to kill Miu, and I...might believe him? Gonta doesn't know anything about the virtual world or how it works, so I could believe Kokichi could manipulate him into killing Miu without realizing he did it. I just can't think of who else could've done it. Kaito was the fall guy, so it wasn't him. Kokichi couldn't have killed Miu personally because if she touched him at all while he was choking her out (which is likely), he'd have frozen. Tsumugi admitted to seeing Miu, but I don't see any reason for her to say that if she killed her because it immediately makes her suspicious.

Also, I think I'm starting to understand Kokichi's ulterior motive here. Everyone else trusts Shuichi implicitly, but Kokichi knows that he'll arrive at the conclusion that Gonta is the culprit. No one will want to accept that, so they'll turn against him.

the storyline where joey fell in love with rachel

I'm not saying nobody liked this storyline, but I haven't met anybody who thought this was a good long-term decision (although maybe somebody in this topic will prove me wrong!). I was mostly fine with it at first when it was just an unrequited crush, but once they turned it into a love triangle with Joey, Ross, and Rachel, it became drama just for the sake of drama. Everybody knew it wasn't going to work out between Joey and Rachel, and the writers didn't even seem to know how to end it when the time came.

The Chick and the Duck

The chick and the duck were fun, harmless additions to the show, unlike Marcel. They could include them in silly moments, and they never took over the show. They were also the motivation for the Roommates Game, which is the best thing the show ever did, so they were a worthwhile addition for that alone. And then suddenly, they weren't part of the show anymore and rarely get mentioned again except just to imply that they both died at some point. Friends could be weird about dropping characters from the show without ever drawing attention to it, but they do at least start a new cycle at the end with Chandler gifting a new chick and duck to Joey.

Made it to the intermission in DRV3 Case 4. All we really did here was unravel Miu's plot to kill Kokichi through the tampering she did with the virtual world, which is stuff I'd largely already deduced before the class trial began, so it doesn't feel like I've really learned anything new yet. I don't feel like we made any headway toward figuring out who the culprit is. The main thing that's standing out so far is Kokichi's behavior. It seems like he's already figured everything out, and he's just trolling everyone for kicks. Or at the very least, he figured out Miu's plot in advance and goaded someone into killing her for him. Either way, I think he already knows who the killer is.

This is an odd designation that shows up once and never gets mentioned again. That being said, The One with the Rugby is a good episode. It was the rare episode where Ross got to be cool and tough, at least for him. His relationship with Emily was a good excuse to get him to do stuff he'd never otherwise do because new love has a strange way of getting you out of your comfort zone in order to impress them.

He is a neat guy, and he's just a love machine. Thinking about his role in Friends kinda makes me sad that Bruce Willis can't act anymore because he was really good on the show. I did think it was strange they never had him interact with Chandler considering the success of The Whole Nine Yards was the entire reason he was on the show, but his disdain for Ross and Ross's inability to win him over until he got blackmail material was good. I loved it when Rachel and Elizabeth kept trying to talk up Ross to Paul, and it always ended up backfiring somehow. I don't think the relationship with Rachel really worked, but they had to end his run on the show somehow, I guess.

Robbie Williams and Billy Crystal's improvised cameo

It's really cool how this cameo came to be. It wasn't even planned for them to be in the show. They just happened to be working on an adjacent set, and they agreed to be on the show. Since it was a rather impromptu situation, they had to adlib their entire conversation. As someone who grew up loving Whose Line Is It Anyway, I've always been impressed by the skill it takes to do something like this. Comedy just seemed to come naturally to the both of them. But even after all these years, it's still kinda hard to see Robin Williams in anything and not be sad that he's gone. He might be the hardest any celebrity death has ever hit me.

This is kind of an odd running joke through the first half of the show, when you think about it. You have the friends peeping on a dude in another apartment who likes to walk around naked, making jokes about stuff that would be awkward to see someone else doing naked ("Ugly naked guy got gravity boots" is the one that immediately comes to mind for me). This comes to a head when they have to fashion the long poking device when they think he might be dead, which is only one of two direct interactions they have with him. The other is when Ross is trying to get his apartment and gets naked with him to get ahead of the other applicants (it sounds...well, just as weird in context), and of course, the rest of the gang happens to catch the sight. Honestly, the gag couldn't have ended any better than that.

So much poking through. They decided to make Rachel's boobs the star of the show early on in The One with the Boobies when Chandler walks in on her after she gets out of the shower. The other day, my wife and I were watching the episode where Rachel walks around the apartment naked (which was shortly after Jennifer Aniston got breast implants in real life), and we were both kinda surprised at how much side boob they showed from behind. We were also both wondering how they shot that scene in front of a live audience.

It's one of the most hotly debated things from the show. To me, it's pretty obvious they were on a break, so that's not really the issue. For me, it's more about if Rachel is justified in rejecting Ross after sleeping with the girl from the copy place and going out of his way to try to hide it from her. I'd say she was, so in a sense, they're both right. I don't think Rachel should be obligated to take Ross back just because they were technically broken up at the time.

I get we don't see every time they go there, but still, we rarely see them sit somewhere else. Also, I originally assumed this was a coffee shop nearby, but I've heard people say it's actually located on the ground floor of the main apartment building, which blew my mind. I didn't realize that was a thing in high rise apartment buildings.

In DRV3, I finished up the Case 4 investigation. This is a pretty interesting setup. My guess based on the evidence we gathered was that Miu planned to kill Kokichi and frame Kaito for it. She specifically altered parameters for herself and Kokichi to allow that to happen, which I think kinda clears Kokichi from suspicion because, if he had met Miu alone, she would've killed him (or at the very least, he'd have been unable to kill her). The user error that Monotaro discovered is interesting though. Makes me wonder if someone accidentally plugged the cords in wrong (either Himiko or Gonta would be my best guess). Still no clue on who actually killed Miu though.

Also, we're at the point where I'm going to be kind of bummed, no matter who the culprit is now because I at least like everyone who's left, now that Miu is dead.

Okay, the opening of the class trial is interesting with Kokichi asking what happens if there's a tie in the voting, and Monokuma says as long as one of them is the blackened, it'll count as correct. I feel like you don't bring that up unless there's going to be a need for it later on, so we'll see! Also, what the heck is up with Monokuma acting all bummed out?

In Wheel of Time book 13, I made it through the big three-way battle scenes with Perrin, Egwene, and Gawin. That was really awesome. Seeing Perrin stun Egwene by undoing her weaves on him and then deflecting balefire like it's nothing was so good.

R.I.P. Hopper though, that one hit me harder than I expected.

Yeah, the Titans need to rebuild, and they know it. It's why they were willing to trade away AJ Brown and why they drafted Malik Willis. The offensive line is getting old. They've got some good pieces on defense and they play in a bad division, so theoretically, if they get the right players, it shouldn't take them too long to get back atop the AFC South.

Joey buying only the V volume of the encyclopedia

This, on the other hand, is a more realistic depiction of Joey's relative lack of intelligence compared to the other friends and the frustration it causes him. It also subtly shows that Joey has a great knack for memorization (he IS an actor after all) because he's able to recall vivisection and the vas deferens like it's nothing. Perhaps my favorite exchange between Joey and Penn Gillette's character is when he asks Joey if he's ever had a hard time following a conversation, and it goes through a montage of him feeling left out of a conversation. Then it cuts back and Penn's character says, "You haven't said anything for about two minutes," indicating that Joey was recalling those memories in real time, which is great.

Ross without the laugh track

It was kind of wild to witness the slow demise of the laugh track in sitcoms (are there any sitcoms that still use them?), but they honestly never bothered me. I guess it's just because I grew up with them and got used to them. I think people try to use these "sitcoms without the laugh track" videos to "prove" that something isn't actually funny, but I feel like the Friends examples actually hold up fine without it.

The plot to Shutter Speed

I didn't even realize the movie Joey went to Las Vegas to shoot actually had a name until I had to look up what Shutter Speed was. I also learned that the wrestler Sting starred in a movie called Shutter Speed with Daisy Fuentes, and it sadly isn't the same as the plot of the Friends version, which reads like an episode of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" instead of an actual movie. Of course, we don't get any follow-up to what happens after Joey's character finds out that Betsy's been dead for ten years, which is a shame.

Chandler's goatee

It didn't really fit the character. It made him look more serious and unfriendly than silly and charming, so I was glad it didn't stick around that long. I was fine with them using it for flashbacks though.

Chandler's impression of Shelley Winters in the Poseidon Adventure

Fun Fact: Back in the day when we could do rotating sigs and imbedded GIFs, I had a GIF of this moment in my rotation. I've never seen The Poseidon Adventure, so I can't personally speak to the quality of the impression, but Ross claims to have understood what he was doing, so that's good enough for me. I feel like Chandler's antics got more outlandish the more awkward the situation was, and this is a prime example, considering this was the episode right after Ross and Rachel's (first) breakup, if I recall correctly.

Actually, it's Miss Chanandiler Bong. Seriously though, I'm not sure what the correct spelling is supposed to be. With Ross's particular enunciation, he makes it sound like there's an I in there somewhere. I can relate to this joke because I have a last name that is frequently misspelled. By the way, this was the name on the TV Guide. Remember TV Guide? This is one of those "kids these days will never understand" type of things. We used to subscribe to it when I was a teenager. I enjoyed doing the crossword in the back.

paget brewster's character

Out of all of Chandler's non-Monica relationships, Kathy was the best one. Not that there's much competition since he didn't have a ton of them and most of them were one-offs except for Janice. The Chandler/Kathy/Joey love triangle was fantastic though. Just the sheer anguish Chandler goes through while she dates Joey is something a lot of people can probably relate to, myself included. It's kind of a shame it ended so abruptly though, especially after how much Chandler goes through to end up with her.

Here's the video if you've never seen it. Honestly, I'm kind of amazed they got even a halfway usable take from this scene because it's hard to watch Phoebe imitating the bagpipes (a funny instrument to begin with) without laughing, no matter how many times I watch it. Jennifer Aniston's inability to keep herself from breaking is great, too.

Joey being unable to speak French

If you made me pick a least favorite episode, this one would be up there (or down there?). Joey's intelligence gets flanderized over the course of the show, and this might be the worst instance of it (this is a season 10 episode, after all). I know it's a comedy and you aren't supposed to take it seriously, but it's pretty hard for me to believe that Joey thinks he's perfectly repeating what Phoebe says to him. I don't think I've ever related to Phoebe more than in this episode.

Eh, I don't think the first Eagles/Patriots Super Bowl was that memorable other than the incredible performance by Terrell Owens. It never felt like New England was actually going to lose that game despite it being close. Eagles/Patriots II was definitely the better one of the two.

I was trying to think of where I'd rank this Super Bowl among those I've seen, and it's probably not even top 5, which isn't a knock, but the penalty made for an anticlimactic ending and probably cost it a shot at all-time greatness.

Off the top of my head, Titans/Rams, Panthers/Patriots, Giants/Patriots 2007, Cardinals/Steelers (might still be the GOAT), Seahawks/Patriots, and Falcons/Patriots are all probably better.

In DRV3, we have our next victim, and it's Miu, which is who I was suspecting was going to be killed. Kaito is way too obvious of a suspect to be the killer, but he was clearly up to something fishy that he's not telling us (perhaps related to whatever illness the end of Case 3 hinted at). Theoretically, the only people who could've killed Miu are Kaito, Tsumugi, Gonta, Kokichi, and Shuichi, since the others were supposed to be stranded on the other side, but I wonder if there was some way to get back over we didn't notice. Tsumugi says she thought she saw Miu on our side, which shouldn't have been possible, but maybe it was a result of the glitch she said might happen if you switch the cords around.

Based on the lab reveals, the primary suspects should be Tsumugi or Keebo, but the game might throw a swerve since they'd probably expect the player to catch onto that pattern by this point. Same thing with Kokichi and Kaito being safe, but we'll see.
