In DRV3, Miu has informed us that she's reprogrammed a virtual killing simulator that Monokuma made to be safe for us to enter, but this obviously smells fishy. I wonder if this virtual killing simulator is the same program from DR2. Kokichi is plotting something here, but I can't tell what. He's in cahoots with Monokuma, at the very least, who tells us that there's info about the outside world hidden in the simulator. I have a feeling someone is going to secretly log out and kill someone in reality while we're in here or something like that.

also what the heck was up with that black and white sketch during this scene, that threw me for a loop

what Mario isn't telling you...

Somehow this became the most pervasive ad campaign in New York City history. I can't even imagine being Joey in this situation, where everyone believes that you are the character you play, even your own family. They did make a lot of great jokes off of it though. That was one of the things early Friends was great at, finding one funny thing and then riffing off of it in multiple ways. It felt like something you'd do with your own friends in real life, which was cool.

Criticism at the lack of black characters

It feels like this stuck to Friends more than other 90s sitcoms, for some reason, even though most of them had the same issue. I guess it's because Friends was the most popular show at the time. Although if you wanted Friends with black characters, there was always Living Single, which some people insist Friends ripped off! Seriously though, Friends generally operated with a small cast and big name guest stars (especially as it got more popular) that they'd date or that they were related to, so it kinda made sense to an extent the show was largely white. I think they tried to be a little more inclusive later in the show, with Gabrielle Union showing up for one episode and Aisha Tyler having a multi-episode run, but I'm not gonna act like that made up for the rest of the show.

Gunter

First off, R.I.P. James Michael Tyler. He took a literal background role and made it into the most frequent recurring minor character in the show. Gunther appears in all 10 seasons, but he doesn't even have a speaking role in all of season 1. He basically took the place of the owner, who just disappears without a trace after a few season 1 episodes. His defining feature is obviously his obsession with Rachel (and his subsequent disdain for Ross as a result), but they do drop in a few tidbits about him here and there, like how he was once a soap opera actor like Joey. At the same time, they don't let him become too familiar. On a related note, his last name is definitely not Central Perk.

I enjoy the running gag of Charlie's ex-boyfriend asking Ross to spell the name of this made-up dinosaur, and then Charlie successfully being able to spell it later on. That's the moment Ross should've known their relationship was doomed. On random notes, I loved dinosaurs as a kid, as I imagine many of us here did. I also finished 4th in a state spelling competition my senior year of high school, but I probably would've gotten this one wrong if it was one of the spelling words.

The Moistmaker freakout

One of Ross's best comedic bits and worthy of the memetic status it has achieved over the years. Gotta be honest, I kinda sympathize with Ross here despite his outsized reaction. He's recently divorced from Emily, so he's in a bad place. He even says that the Moistmaker sandwich was the only thing he had to look forward to in life at the time. However, the thing that would've set me off like Ross is the sheer glee his boss seems to take in admitting he stole his sandwich and the additional audacity of saying he threw most of it away, to boot. Total jerk move.

Why Ross, the largest friend, does not simply eat the other five

Well, Lrrr, it's because Ross isn't actually the largest Friend. That would be Joey, which is why that joke doesn't really land for me (you can argue Ross is the tallest, I guess, but he's definitely not the "alpha male" of the group). He probably wouldn't be able to take Monica based on all indications of her surprising strength either. Now I wouldn't put it past Joey to eat the other five if it came down to it.

Top 5 Worst Episodes

I said in the opening post I didn't want to simply rank episodes...! Plus, I don't know what I'd say are the worst episodes off of the top of my head, so let's see what the worst ranked episodes are on IMDB. Hmm...Looks like it's all clip shows. I guess people really don't like those, but I get it since they're kinda lazy by design. Probably the biggest travesty of these clip shows doesn't actually take place in the episode itself. In The One with the Vows, Chandler supposedly writes these hilarious vows, but when the wedding gets here, he doesn't use them. It's a shame we never got to hear them!

The lowest rated episode that isn't a clip show is The One with the Donor, and I'd probably agree that's one of the worst. Chandler and Monica grilling John Stamos's character Zack on his entire family history to see if he'd be a good sperm donor is awkward more often in a bad way than a good way.

PIVOT!

Another great Ross meme and something anyone can relate to if you've ever had to carry bulky furniture up a flight of stairs. It's probably for the best that Rachel couldn't find Joey to help and had to bring Chandler along instead because he's great here, too. He nearly gets thrown over the railing as the couch rolls over top of him, and he counters Ross's PIVOT chant with a SHUT UP retort. Also, at some point, you gotta bite the bullet and pay for the store's movers to carry the couch, man. It's money well spent.

Chandler's roommate Eddie

Perhaps the creepiest and most discomforting character in the series, but in a good way, at least for me. Chandler plays off of Eddie so well. Probably my favorite interaction is when Chandler wakes up to find Eddie watching him and yells at him to move out. Eddie's incredulous response of, "What about all the other nights when you didn't see me, huh?" like Chandler shouldn't be bothered by it is fantastic.

The theme song

One of my all-time favorite television theme songs, it just fits the show so well. It's super catchy, too. I'm always disappointed when I'm watching the episode and it has the abridged title sequence instead of the full version. Some channels who run the show in syndication skip it entirely by putting it in a small window at the bottom of the screen, which I guess is meant to save time so they can play more of the episode. That just means your commercial breaks are too long!

I've been wanting to do some sort of rankings project, but I also wanted it to be relatively low effort since I don't have a lot of free time these days. I was trying to think of something non-video game related I'd feel confident I could talk about at length, and Friends rose to the top of the list for me. It's a show where I've seen most of the episodes many times, and I figure it's popular enough (whether you love it or hate it) that I could get decent participation. Plus, just ranking the characters or episodes would be boring, so hopefully this will be fun for everyone.

In DRV3, we discover a few more labs, which is usually a bad sign for the characters involved. Shuichi is probably safe, although his lab could be the crime scene, so that means Tsumugi and Keebo are on alert. At the very least, Kokichi and Kaito are probably safe for another chapter since their labs haven't been revealed yet.

I played the opening part of DRV3 Case 4. We open with a video of Rantaro (presumably of his pre-Academy self speaking to himself to trigger his memories or something, which would explain why he knew about the Ultimate Hunt) explaining the rules of the killing game. The video skips at times, but there's an implication that Rantaro has survived another killing game, and he wanted to participate in this one, too, for unknown reasons. I feel like the opening of the game suggested that killing games had been happening beyond the two we know about. Maybe the V is secretly a 5 and this is the 53rd killing game. MGSV played around with V being a letter and a numeral, too, so we'll see...!

And yep, pretty much right away, we name Kiyo as the culprit, but I'm getting more and more convinced he didn't kill Angie. It feels like it's too early for us to corner the blackened who will be punished, although I do wonder what his motive for the killing here is. It didn't seem to matter who he killed, unless he was hoping to lure out Angie's killer this way.

Made it to the intermission of the class trial in DRV3 Case 3. So we seemingly got to the bottom of how Tenko died. Himiko still seems super suspicious to me, but the fact that the game keeps making her seem like the most likely suspect probably means she didn't do it. Plus, she did originally volunteer to be the one in the cage, so that makes me think it wasn't her. Thinking about it though, it feels like Kiyo is the only one who could've planted the sickle since he put the sheet on and took it off, unless it was somehow planted under the dog statue in advance and no one noticed since it was in the middle or something.

I just don't understand how someone could have prepared for all of this in advance other than Kiyo, since the seance was his idea, and he knew exactly where everything would go. I don't think it matters which room they chose since I'm guessing the culprit did the floorboard trick in every room, as evidenced by Kokichi falling through the floorboard in one of the other rooms. It would be a bummer for Kiyo to be the culprit since I've warmed up to him over the course of the game, but he seems the most likely...in Tenko's case anyway. Maybe he only killed Tenko and not Angie.

I still remember the audible groan from the crowd in my movie theater when Rey and Kylo Ren kissed at the end of Episode IX. So bad. VIII has the best version of Kylo Ren. I like that TLJ had him on the trajectory to stay unredeemed.

And yes, I agree, which is why they could've made Finn's role in VIII better by just letting the heroic sacrifice play out.

After rewatching The Last Jedi, I can safely conclude...this is still the best non-OT Star Wars movie. Still love everything about it that I loved about it originally. I think it's going to make rewatching IX next more annoying since VII and VIII will be fresh in my mind, and I still believe those are good movies that are wasted by what IX doesn't do with them.

seriously why wasn't Rey/Finn the OTP, the one thing that this rewatch made me rethink was believing they should have just let Finn go out on a high note with a heroic sacrifice like he wanted instead of making him endure what he goes through in IX

All right, finished rewatching Episode VII. Honestly, watching it now almost annoys me a bit because I think this movie has a lot of good ideas. Unfortunately, most of them don't get developed the way that they should (or at all, really). Finn in particular is a total waste of potential because I love him in this movie, and he gets the short end of the stick in the other two.

Also, I think Harrison Ford's performance might be the best part of the sequel trilogy. He's so good here.

In DRV3, the cult of Angie is getting out of hand, leading me to believe she's going to be the next victim, in addition to her lab being an ideal locked room situation. Or maybe she'll be the killer, but either way, I don't expect this cult stuff to last beyond this chapter. Angie did say their plan was to revive Rantaro, which is certainly the most intriguing candidate (bringing back Kaede just to make her Shuichi's sidekick wouldn't be all that interesting). I'm still skeptical anyone is actually going to be revived, but we'll see!

It's official: Return of the Jedi is still the best. Sure, it has some weak parts, but nothing in any Star Wars tops the throne room scenes. I tend to judge stories by their best parts unless the bad parts are just that bad (see: Xenosaga Episode III), so that's why RotJ is still my favorite Star Wars movie.

This will be my first time rewatching the sequels since Episode IX (and my first time rewatching Episode IX period), so I'll be curious to see if my opinion on the trilogy has shifted.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I put so many hours into Curtain Call, and I can't imagine this one won't be better.

In DRV3, I started suspecting this might be a simulated world like DR2's once they introduced the computer that could "create a new reality" or however they put it, as well as the Flashback Light this time around showing a funeral for all the Ultimates. Now with the idea of bringing someone back from the dead, it feels even more likely since there's no way it could happen if this were "real life," at least not with the rules DR plays by anyway.

Unless freaking everyone out with the idea of bringing someone back from the dead is the point and there's no plan to actually resurrect anyone.

Cape is more fun than the raccoon tail though

Eh, I've never really liked how flight works with the cape.

It's been kind of wild to watch the gradual shift from Mario 3 to Mario World being the preferred game of the two over my time here.

I love both but red basically nailed why 3 is the better game to me.
