There's no limit to this type of rhetoric. It's eliminationist. Once it gets started (it already has), it'll be driven to further escalation by the need of right wing politicians and talking heads to be the most conservative, the most protective of kids and religion, the most anti-woke. We already have former presidents saying this and governments proposing forced detransitioning.

Anyone minimizing this or saying we're overreacting at this point is either a fool that will get people killed or wants to actively kill people.

It really can feel bad when it seems like you're putting effort out into a black hole. But don't take any of these things as a personal evaluation. These apps don't generally give enough time for people to get a sense of you as a person. It's only an impression of an impression. And once you realize that, you can maybe be more free with how you present yourself, or at least not take things to heart as much.

Basically, take 5-6 high quality, varied pictures of you doing interesting things, and things the people you're interested in do/like. Include a dog if you have one. Have a short, sweet, positive bio with something to spark conversation. And once you do that, you've done all you can do.

I wouldn't expect blackshirts to apologize and see the error of their ways. It shouldn't be expected here either. To expect that or to accept an apology from them is to not understand who/what they are.

It's part projection and part unashamed wielding of power. They consider their ideas legitimate and "leftist" ones illegitimate. Reflexively defending him regardless of what he says or does is not any less "current thing" than hating him. Being a contrarian, edgelord, sophist, or sycophant is not being a free thinker.

It's what they do. Pretend that something crazy is happening and then attack that imaginary thing. Just by doing that, they imply that the world has gone degenerate and that their enemies are defending the crazy thing or allowing it to happen. Therefore, they get to align associated groups and look like the defenders of order and common sense. Even better is the fact they get to distract from real issues, like discrimination against LGBT students, racial and economic inequality in schools, abuse in schools, and the failure of our students to learn good.

There's no doubt that this is done with good intentions and that it would be effective if implemented. The problem is that the landlords have no accountability and don't feel that they need to follow any of this. They accurately believe that they hold almost complete power over their tenants and that they have an entire political party and half of another devoted to protecting their privileges and profits. Until you permanently reduce the power of landlords and their ability to use shelter as an investment vehicle, none of this will matter.

It was only a subset of a subset of a subset that were actually radically left. Most were conservative, some were hippies (which doesn't necessarily mean any leftist political beliefs, it can just mean egoism and different types of consumption), some were actual leftists. And we're still dealing with the political reaction to the perception that the youth were all leftist during that time.

Also, you don't have to acquiesce to whatever your agent recommends. Let's say the agent has an inspector he always uses, but you want to go with your own inspector you found and has good ratings. Go with your own inspector. The agent works for you, no the other way around.

And don't go with new agents who haven't dealt with every scenario. I have worked with about half a dozen agents and my last agent unfortunately didn't deal with all scenarios and gave me a big headache because he never presented me with certain options because he never dealt with said options before.

I did a sell and buy (do not ever go through selling your old home and buying a new home at the same time if you can avoid it at all costs, that is double stress) and it wasn't until after we signed contracts that he mentions I could stay in my original house I sell for a week and pay the new owner rent until I move into the new home which was a constant point of stress that I conveyed during the entire process (how to handle moving because 2 closing dates will never perfectly line up, do we need to put everything in storage and stay at a hotel, etc) but he never mentioned it until AFTER. We ended up drawing up new contracts to accommodate for this but he could've saved me a whole bunch of stress if he informed me of this early on in the process.

All of this is great advice. I did the buying and selling at the same time out of necessity, and it did add a huge amount of stress. But since we picked a good agent, she told us about every option for where we could be until we closed on the new house, and it wouldn't have been possible without that.

Make sure to research your inspector, make sure they have excellent reviews, they're licensed and experienced. Make sure you specifically, explicitly ask the owner about ANY issues with big ticket items like heating and cooling, roofing, plumbing, mold, and foundation etc. Try to be there yourself for the inspection, ask questions, point stuff out, then read the report in DETAIL. Ask your inspector when they expect to have each big ticket item fail. If you have enough leverage ask for repairs of big ticket items, NOT a concession on the purchase price. Then make sure each repair is documented and completed by a highly reputable contractor. Check to see if insurance claims have ever been filed for any big ticket issues. Check for evidence of pests or environmental factors likely to attract pests. Check to see if the house is in a flood prone area or an area likely to become flood prone as climate change accelerates.

Go for newer houses if you can or ones with recent and high quality renovations to major systems (not cheapo quick flips that'll cost you more to fix).

I bought a house last year and did most of this, and learned some of this through negative experience.

Y'all never seem to realize that:

1) The marketplace is a metaphor/allegory, not an actual descriptor of the world. It's a rhetorical device meant to advocate a specific outcome.

2) Much like an actual marketplace, the marketplace of ideas is full of fraud, monopolies, cartels, and ineffeciences. There is NOTHING guaranteeing that the truth prevails or is even heard above the noise and active disinformation.

3) All marketplaces must be regulated or you get lead in all your gas and paint and sawdust and e coli in your milk. Fuentes types are the lead and bacteria.

Most seem to understand this on some level except for y'all. Which means you're either incredibly naive or actively malicious.

Defending this type of work culture is suicidal. Why should a regular ass unimportant job be turned into a Squid Game situation where maximum effort is expected at all times, but "failure" is still inevitable and even objectively excellent performance that would be lauded under any other circumstances may result in a paycut?

It's a way for bosses to get the maximum profit and fear out of you, while making it easier to squeeze you because it automates cruelty and normalizes high pressure situations, without taking responsibility for being slave drivers.

It's the only way to get ahead nowadays. There used to hypothetically be career paths where if you stayed in one job and did well, you'd advance and make a good income that can support a family, get a pension etc. Now, the better you are, the more you're taken advantage of, you don't even get raises that keep up with inflation, jobs are cut and more duties are loaded onto you for the same pay. All in the pursuit of short term profits.

The only way to avoid that is to "job hop." You can only even get close to getting paid what you're worth by having someone else pay you that amount. Without even entering into any type of socialist analysis, companies take paying people way under market or what they produce a win and won't give it up until forced.

So Gen Z is just acting rationally under Capitalism. They're done with lies about employers being "family" or the idea that they should be happy to have any job at all, when that job is making them miserable. Good.

We have plenty of things to shame him over, I don't think we need to use this one. I feel the same way about Trump, MTG, Lindsay Graham, etc. It just leads to dumb, bad faith arguments about hypocrisy that people don't seem to have the self control or awareness to avoid.

That said, I think there could be an argument to be made about attacking people for things that are otherwise stigmatized and attached to real world consequences like race, weight, height, etc vs things like a weird chin, eyes, or head shape.

And there's the fact that he's deliberately associated himself with "alpha male" physical traits and his supporters lap it up. It could be useful to point out that he doesn't fit his own definition of what the ideal male should look like.

People here confirm their identity by hating on the perceived concentration of everything they hate/don't want to be. Basically, it's more culture war stuff.

Online gaming spaces that aren't explicitly left wing are dominated by the types that span the political spectrum (but mostly far right to center left), but are united by being rabidly against social progressivism/what they see as identity politics. Yeah that's the problem

The dialogue from the most popular media franchise in the world is the problem? I think only a specific subset of gamers feel that way, judging by....observed reality. Unfortunately for this game, the narrative has already been set and they might be relying on this demographic to buy the game.

The face work was a little off, but the dialogue is just standard modern Marvel speak. I don't understand the visceral hatred I'm seeing.

What do you suggest people do? My job is to engage homeless people in Californa and I've had homeless people 9/10 times refuse services that I try to get them connected to. Services such as:

- Shelter and hotel voucher programs that provide food and shelter at no cost to them
- Medi-cal and IEHP insurance for health care at no cost to them
- Sobering center and Drug rehab programs that house and feed them at no cost to them
- Mental Health Urgent cares that help them stabilize their mental illnesses in a voluntary environment while helping them get connected to longer term mental health treatment. once again at no cost to them

What are some of your ideas?

If I was sure I had the answer and could implement it, I'd have already done it. These are all good starts, but a big part of the problem as I see it is that by the time you're approaching someone on the street, things have already broken down tremendously. For someone to end up there, they have to have no support system to speak of or their issues have to reach critical crisis level. It's hard to reach someone at that point. It's a DEEP and intense societal failure, akin to something like an active shooter or something and there's no obvious/easy solution at that point. It's hard to reintegrate into society when you've fallen out of it to that extent.

By far the most effective measure would be to provide all these things before the crisis point.

But in the short term, part of the issue is that these services are often offered almost as a threat or a last alternative to criminal punishment, which erodes trust. My impression is that they also often come with a lot of strings attached beyond cost (I don't know how they do it in California, but in Texas, almost all help seems to come with heavy religious pressure/control or police involvement). So one element to improve success could be to have the programs and their outreach designed by or at least with the input of people who have actually been in that situation, and without police involvement or threat.

Essentially permanent, free no-strings attached housing, combined with whatever other supports are necessary. And this should be provided both at the point of crisis and before.

And even if this doesn't improve the situation at all, physical attacks and further criminalization is not the answer. And that seems to be the only alternative people can think of. It's the only thing that's been suggested by the people expressing their sympathy with the business owner.
