Important to note: no one in this office likes this particular director. Or at least, they don't trust her.

She comes into the office and in front of everyone is like "hey [pinky], I bought you something". And just hands me a present. Singles me out in front of the entire office, not out of a performance reward or anything but just because she was...thinking about me?

It's usually some weird trinket or something, but today really takes the cake. She bought me a coffee drip system that would probably be like 150 new, and she was like "don't worry I got it on facebook marketplace. It was advertised for 50 but I didn't pay that much. Probably paid 20 more than I should have, haha!"

The awkwardness is unbearable at this point. In a way I feel like my job is safe as houses but it just means everyone else is going to like me a lot less.

Wtf do I do?

Touch screens became a thing because cars had too many buttons.

^This was the interior of the Panamera in the 2010's. Touch screens allow that ridiculous amount of buttons next to the shifter to be consolidated.

It's a huge part of the reason Audi became the most popular of the German brands the last few years. Everything was controlled through the center screen and steering wheel buttons and it gave the cars a more minimalist look.

Personally I like a mixture of buttons and screens rather then what Tesla is trying to do, but to each there own.

Alright fair but I don't like touch screen everything. There are like two buttons I press several times every journey, keep those as buttons >:/

Be realistic. No one is pulling over or leaving the highway just to change channel or adjust the air con. So all these things do is create more situations for people to look away from the road. Really genius.

I'm assuming that. In reality, I think she would be great.

Past experiences are colouring my feelings here. I vividly remember (like I was still there) the times I opened up to two ex girlfriends (separately) and our relationship dynamic almost immediately changed. Suddenly I wasn't a protector or a rock but a little bitch of a man who had annoying and not useful feelings - that was the shift. It was hurtful, and now I just have my guard up.

*The expectations some people have on men sometimes, since nuance isn't topic title friendly.

Maybe some guys can relate. This is not a "women have it so easy" topic.

Finding myself in this situation where I've become a "shoulder to cry" on for several people all at once, and a punching bag for some in other cases. When people do this they sort of just expect you to understand that their fears and reactions might be heavy and irrational but you're the rock in the situation so that's ok, you'll figure it out. Not much thought or care given to you being affected by this.

When it happens in reverse, ever feel like the person listening to you wants to co-opt your feelings for them? Like now it's your responsibility to make sure you don't make them anxious with whatever you're saying.

People want me to open up to them, but why can't I shake the feeling that how they want me to open up is in a very specific way? Like my girlfriend wants me to share more of my feelings, maybe cry in a manly way at something cute or adorable, tell her about the time I shed a tear at something moving. What nobody wants is to see you show real fear, real anxiety, real "rocking back and forth in the corner in a fetal position because you're scared" feelings. Like she doesn't want to hear about how you felt ineffective and insecure in your position at work, that kind of thing.

Ever feel like your version of opening up to people is just another mask where you just show another fake version of yourself for someone else's benefit?

It feels like society has made a lot of ground on the discussion of how men should be more open with their feelings and talk to people, while at the same time not making any ground on how people actually feel about or react to that.

I told my girlfriend all of this and her counter argument was that she really moved at the time her dad broke down in tears when he saw his grandson for the first time. All I could think was...yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Another example of "man allowing himself to be emotional (but in a heroic way)" is being portrayed.

The resentful part I have is when people talk about toxic masculinity in the contexts of how men don't talk about their feelings and this inevitably hurts them and others, they rarely address the elephant in the room: men are scared to talk about their feelings because at some point in their life they did exactly that and a woman (yes, almost always a woman) visibly and instantly lost respect for them.

You guys have a time like that right? The time you cried or showed real fear or insecurity, maybe you were jealous or not confident about something - and your mother, wife, girlfriend, female friend - the admiration just died in her eyes in real time.

Not sure what the point of this blogfaqs topic was, just wanted to write some shit down.

If we're going to have a semantical discussion, I guess when people use the term "paycheck to paycheck" I take that to mean their budget is stretched so thin that have no room to save.

Maybe I'm wrong about that, but in any case that would be a different thing from "I've accounted for every penny and don't end up with any leftover at the end of the month".

Basic idea is income minus expenses equals zero every month. So if you make 2k a month, then you calculate everything you need to spend on (including savings and entertainment) and you make sure it equals zero every month.

I guess this means you aren't sitting there with a random $300 every month that you spend on whatever.

Seems like a good idea and I might try it, but wondering if anyone does this already.

I think the logic of that argument is sound but in practise its kinda bullshit tbh. There's nothing essential about an amazon prime subscription, or an H&M T Shirt, or an iphone. I try to be a little more ethical in my choices these days and nearly all of my clothes are second hand, most of my shopping is local. My partner hasn't shopped from amazon or any retailers like that in a decade, she even gets her toothpaste from the local market. She has a fairphone.

It's possible for most people to live a normal, slightly less convenient life by not supporting these sorts of businesses. But I also totally understand why most people don't and I'm not gonna be a cock about it because really, it's a privilege to have that choice, and it's not up to me to tell people what they should do.

And in reality with so many of these things there's always a dozen more that are harmful to someone somewhere. Best you can do is try and be a little better.

Which is why I find this whole debacle so weird, because it's like suddenly making this one ethical consumption choice is the most important social issue to some people.

What I'm really curious about is what they'll decide to do about weapon durability. I don't agree with a lot of the community that just removing it altogether without any payoff is wise. All people will do is find the one OP sword and ignore everything else if that happens.
