This really just seems like the wrong place for an "individual boycott" to protest the treatment of voice actors at this point. Sure, Kamiya freaked out and made himself look bad, but maybe we should be listening to the union advocates if we're concerned with the larger issue.

I don't know what the right place in time to not buy something is, but regardless of whatever exactly is going on with Bayonetta 3, it did start that conversation and conditions don't seem good anyways.

There is technically a connecting multiverse with the SMT/Persona games but it's pretty much meaningless.

This is probably the ultimate answer though. Multiple seemingly unrelated series that still cross over, frequently contradicting one another, the connections sometimes thematically meaningful and othertimes not. Instead of concrete worldbuilding or a single overarching story it's purely vibes-based and a lot of the time just leaves you staring at it and going "what did Suda mean by this"

Honestly it applies to all fiction. Writing is hard af in general, writing a single likable character is hard af, and so writing 2 likable characters and having them be in a good romance together is basically impossible.

There's definitely stories where the romance was ruined to make it more marketable or "safe", but among writers who had the ability and resources to do the story they wanted (which includes FF writers), it's just rare.

what? there's whole genres of fiction devoted to romance.

a general boycott is a very different situation than a specific instance where an artist is calling for one

that said if anyone wants to stop buying all AAA video games with voice acting and only buy indies on itch or whatever, or pirate every AAA video game, more power to them

as a ff8 hater it's very funny that the ps1 FF game that is explicitly a romance story is excluded from this list

There's too many obstacles to VR from both a technical and physical standpoint. It's a promising sidegrade but it literally can't become the next "big thing" until it becomes accessible and cheap enough.

This is why for instance you see all this Metaverse stuff that is not strictly VR, it has to be "cross compatible" first. Stuff like VRChat for example which you don't actually need VR to play make the most convincing and wide-ranging argument for VR as a technology.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I'm not a fan of DLSS from what I've seen. It turns the visuals into a blurry mess if you want to get more than the tiniest performance increase. I'd rather downscale to 1080p.

Maybe there's improvement to be made there, but it hasn't seemed like the gamechanger people seem to describe it as.

It's probably system dependent because it is vastly preferable to downscaling on games where it's good like Control (basically a "current gen" game that came out early).

I do think the performance is a very sizable QOL improvement that is going to convert people as they get used to it (especially because 3rd parties on Switch have been ass), but all the game design trends are not really using it. Breath of the Wild and games-as-a-service have been the huge bombs and the AAA response so far has been (checks notes) Genshin Impact and Elden Ring. The cinematic narrative games aren't the zeitgeist anymore and at the same time you have indies like Disco Elysium and Citizen Sleeper running circles around whatever AAA game writing is doing anyways. Which is not to say that gaming is bad at all right now, it's just that the industry is slow to adapt so it doesn't feel like we have big next gen must-haves atm.

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart does slap though idc

I really hate Pratt for this casting but he's not a bad voice actor. He voiced the protagonists in The Lego Movie and Onward and did a perfectly fine job, was even a great fit at times. The issue is not at all that he can't voice act animated characters it's that his goofy everyman voice does not fit the character.

The Penguin King is apparently Khary Payton who is also an underrated but established voice actor (does Cyborg in Teen Titans and more recently Black Samson in Invincible).

If Martinet has a cameo it should be something immediately recognizable as "the Mario voice" imo

That's not an exaggeration either, everything else is bad. People can say "who cares it's for kids", but that doesn't really fly when other studios are also making movies for kids but they're still good. Spiderverse is "for kids", all the Pixar movies are "for kids". Illumination movies typically struggle to live up to the Cars 2 bottom of the barrel.

Hilariously we are at the point where I honestly would have trusted Sony's animation studios to do Mario more justice than Illumination.
