Surprised to hear the advertising has been low because I've seen plenty of billboards and street ads for it, some video ads but maybe lower than usual. Also following jaboukie lol. I just wasn't interested because it looks boring. And if I'm wrong I'd just catch it on Disney+ later.

I guess the argument is that Disney didn't advertise it because of the gay themes? I'd believe it easily, Disney has the power to sell whatever they want really, but also they've made other baffling decisions with Pixar movies recently too so who knows.

It doesn't seem accurate to call it being exploited by grifters when the grifters are just the only people who can stand being around him/he can stand being around.

It's very easy for both of these to be true: Ye has been mentally ill and spiraling for years and the blame goes both to him for refusing help and making terrible choices and the grifters and opportunists more than willing to take advantage of him.

Yeah, performance problems are definitely on the developer. Like, people weren't clamoring for a more powerful 3DS when games released on that and had frame rates in the 10s - that was all due to devs biting off more than they could chew.

For games like SMTV, there wouldn't have been issues if the devs had kept the graphics to a more appropriate level, like they did with SMTIV and Persona 5.

But they do turn down the graphics to get the game to run and people just complain the trees look worse than in Breath of the Wild. Can't win.

I'll never understand the performance complaints about games on Switch. There are plenty of games on the console that look incredible while still holding solid framerates. Yeah, a more powerful Switch would make it easier for games to perform better, but when a game is released janky, especially if it's not a multiplatform title, that's pretty much entirely on the developer's failure to optimize their game. Saying that these problems are because the Switch doesn't have a more powerful variant console is just sweeping those problems under the rug.

Because these problems are related. It is harder for devs to develop around weaker hardware or weird architecture or whatever is going on. Yes it's on the developer to optimize the game but multiple devs are clearly struggling with the hardware, we've had exclusives with issues like SMTV, Bayonetta 3, NMH3. Even very polished games like BotW have occasional weird stuttering, and Nintendo is one of the rare devs that can afford that kind of luxury.

If you want the most extreme possible example, look at Cyberpunk 2077. That game was extremely buggy at launch but it wasn't much worse than a Bethesda game...on the high end PCs that could brute force performance. On low end PCs and consoles it was unplayable. It took months of extra dev time to fix.

Well yeah that's how these big franchises work is that they rotate through new players and returning players and not everyone has to buy every release. They should at least farm out more games to buy time for mainline releases, I guess, but spinoffs don't sell as well so it probably wont happen.

This is reviewing worse than Sword/Shield. I was hoping Arceus was an indicator for good things to come but this has seriously deflated any hype I had for a good mainline Pokemon game.

I still kinda doubt it's actually worse than Sw/Sh, those games had inflated scores because they were the first mainline games on Switch, a massively popular console, that brought a lot of people back to the series after a haitus. Now in 3 years we've had 3 games and fatigue is setting in. We had a game this year and there's already a lot of "man I wish this was Legends 2"

Not really a condemnation of those reviews either, it's just a different context. Pokemon has become something I come back to every 3-5 years and I also enjoyed Sw/Sh more after burning out on Sun/Moon even though they're worse as games. It's just, gamefreak should also have that amount of time to make these games instead of cranking out yearly releases

Even at the local level, the state democratic party has utterly failed to capitalize on the 2018 blue wave. The state legislature has basically been in a holding pattern supermajority since, with Rs picking up a few seats this election from the new maps and South Texas. 2020 was the election where Dems had a chance to do something about it and they totally fumbled.

Is that a liberal idea? I associate liberals with the opposite - moral absolutism, rising above the enemy, the end does not justify the means - those sort of things.

I think it's 4 pretty easily, I do really love the story for what it is, but it's such a weird disjointed experience with crazy highs and terrible lows. People are comparing it to 2 in terms of gameplay/cutscene balance, but I feel that MGS2 stays pretty consistent in what it's trying to do throughout, which makes a huge difference. The same goes for V, on the opposite end of the spectrum.

4 is an eclectic disaster mess of a game, and to be clear that is why I love it, but it's also why it's my least favorite.

Yeah I don't know where you guys are that this is abnormally priced for a burger. Plus inflation is hitting everything crazy right now. If they are charging for toppings that's new (they used to give a bunch for free and only some were extra) but also in line with places raising their prices.

To me there's basically three tiers of burger you pay for:
1) gourmet burgers at sit-down restaurants - $15+ ish but really you're getting apps and drinks and shit
2) fast casual like Shake Shack, 5 Guys, Smashburger etc that's like $10-12 just for the burger with fries a la carte
3) fast food which is $8-10 for a meal

If you are lucky you can find local burger shacks that are priced at tier 2 or under but are better than anything else in quality. So it's kind of an obsolete category in that case. But it's absolutely not competing with McDonalds or whatever.

I don't think you're going to get a good open-world sandbox out of it ever but from what I hear it is a lot less buggy and they smoothed out a lot of the gameplay issues

I played at 1.2 and had a fine time, should be better now

"Dark and brooding," is not the problem with the DC movies at this point. The "dark" movies are the Snyder Trilogy, Suicide Squad, and then Batman and Joker which people actually think are good.

Then there's like at least 6 movies that are neutral to light hearted, or edgy but goofy like TSS and Harley Quinn. That's 50/50!

Your programmers and testers and asset designers who are the ones pulling 50+ hour weeks a lot of the time, and sometimes have to skip meals to get by. Contractors who put tireless effort into a job for a very long time under the promise of getting a secured job, only to be released as soon as the project has gone gold. Yeah that is what I mean by "too much polish," the mechanics of FFXV are a disaster but Noctis controls extremely smoothly. TOO smoothly because it would be unplayable otherwise. It was all they could do to polish all the edges off and get something decent.

FF7R has weight and heft to it. It's clunky and sorta obtuse but in a good way.

All the towns and setpieces, plus the boys themselves all look great. On a technical level the graphics are very polished. I feel like this is a complaint about the open world design and visual style which is separate from what I mean. Like it was a big meme when the game came out the devs found a cool rock in real life and modeled it in game. That is...an unnecessarily high attention to detail in a pretty bland open world!

And part of polish is cutting out extraneous aspects and making the game feel good to play. FFXV felt pretty bad at the time it came out (driving and such), and there were a bunch of open areas with nothing in them that should've been cut from the game. There wouldn't have been a Royal Edition in the first place if it had been suitably polished at launch.

This is fair though. There's a ton of rough edges in the game but what I should say is that there's a lot of stuff that is still extremely polished. It's part of what I found so interesting about it at release (haven't played Royal). But also I wouldn't say any FF game gets this perfect.

Or we might just have different definitions of polished. I think it's possible to be TOO polished.

There were plenty of bad in hindsight takes around Demons Souls era and before Dark Souls really blew up. Hell, there were people worried that GRRM's influence on Elden Ring would make the fantasy setting too basic, instead they made their weirdest and deepest world yet.

Confused by this because it's much more Game of Thrones than Witcher. Dramatic royal palace politics are front and center here when that's part of the background in Witcher. It's Game of Thrones but the house leaders turn into kaiju. Also, Witcher's combat is very clunky and this is some flashy Devil May Cry shit. It's ok to not be enthused by that of course.

Do we even have any indication if it's open world yet? For all we know it's FF7R combat hallways with occasional diversions.

It's looking like a good paint by numbers fantasy story and the battle system looks like it'll be fun so I'm more than satisfied.

Which Which, Firehouse, and Jersey Mike's are all tied depending on what kind of sub I'm in the mood for. Potbelly is ok but kind of a worse version of all three. Local is usually better anyways.

I used to eat way too much Subway and now I can't stand it. Might still be better than Jimmy John's though.

Imagine if Platinum had said this upfront without Taylor saying anything. Whether it was true or false, people would have very rightly called them petty, unprofessional, and vindictive. And Taylor would likely be getting even worse heat than she is now on top of that. It's absurd to act like this would have been better for anyone involved.

That's exactly my point? Platinum doesn't want to be called cheap. Taylor doesn't want to get blacklisted for asking too much. This NDA benefits the industry overall - and so the companies that have the most power - because messy public discussion of salaries serve to disrupt that balance.

This is basically the same rationale why there's an unspoken rule to not discuss salaries in the workplace. People get mad when they find problems. It benefits the company, not the worker, for it to be that way.

Sure, they go with the bigger product. My whole post was addressing Lopen's idea that AI VA will be so expensive that it will somehow hamper the mass adoption of AI VA within the industry. The AI companies are racing to be the first to mass adoption and they will need to be cheaper than human VAs for the companies to switch.

I think this conversation is confusing mass adoption with universal adoption. We're in a race to the bottom as people try to crack the tech and attract investors and support, but once businesses start looking for return on investment that will change. They'll make tech proprietary and set prices.

It's pretty easy for me to believe we'll get to a point where "good enough" tech will be relatively cheap enough for big and mid level productions to replace, let's say, Chris Pratt. It is much harder for me to believe they will get cheap and good enough to replace video game voice actors, who are apparently working for peanuts. Cheap or free "bad" AI voices might enable very small devs to use tech to add voice acting, which could be interesting, but that will probably have different artistic applications than trying to convincingly imitate a human!

Do you expect that free service will continue to be the norm once AI becomes an industry standard? We've seen the monetization cycle play out with so many other emergent techs already.

Again, if the union wants to take collective action again to secure residuals as an industry-wide standard, thats totally fair, but if the story from Schreier is true then it sounds like she wasnt treated unfairly at all relative to other actors and theres no real case to stick it to Platinum in particular.

Read the guardian article I posted, unions have been trying to do this but struggling because frequently there are middlemen in between the unions and game studios that mediate voice work.

Like you realize if actors only wait for the perfect and most fair opportunity that privileges the status quo, right?
