Also, nobody is interested in seeing Grayson as Robin anymore, other than in throwback stories. The character is Nightwing now, and any attempt to put him back in the Robin suit would be met with scorn. Even now, the current run of Nightwing from Taylor is one of the most popular and well received ongoing series on the market under.

But thats not all. Its going to feature other members of the extended Bat-family just because we feel like theyve been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long, Safran said. Also of note, Gunn played coy when asked if Dick Grayson would make an appearance.

I think we're gonna see Dick Grayson, if they've already committed to doing Damian and basing things on Morrison's run.

I think going for a project-oriented and hopefully creator-driven approach like this is the right call, some of these are some pretty wild projects. The Authority? Wild. I'm not even sure how you'd pull that off in a modern context. Although, let's be real, I feel like HBO/Discovery is going to cancel at least 50% of these oddball ones.

Batman movie based on Morrison's run with Damian Wayne is a fucking excellent call too, I have been saying for YEARS they need to do a Bat Dad/Batfam movie. In live action, of course, LEGO Batman was obviously great but wasn't enough.

Hard to say if he actually has stake in the rights but Adult Swim has actually been one of the last bastions of being pro-creator, at least as far as animation is concerned. There's a reason Venture Bros. lasted as long as it did, or why Tuca & Bertie got picked up by AS after Netflix bailed. So idk but I'd bet he got a better deal than the norm, and going on with the show is a better deal for the people still working there than cancelling it and dealing with the fallout.

The second and third main quests have some neat lore and are pretty fun. My only complaint is the typical Genshin wordiness (it's a long one again) and also the English voice acting during the performance is...oof. lmao.

Human form Cloud Retainer better be playable at some point. I wouldn't complain about Streetward Rambler either though that seems less likely.

Don't get me wrong, it's not incredible or groundbreaking. It's a solid Dreamworks script with a fresh coat of paint. But god damn is that a nice coat of paint to look at, animation-wise. You can tell that they learned the lesson Spider-Verse was trying to teach. And I'm ok with it being derivative if these are the results! Can't believe a Shrek spin-off is out here eating Disney and Pixar's lunch.

Congrats! The Catch is so good that's is on par with 5* weapons, definitely worth doing. Favonius Lance makes for a good filler weapon in the meantime that you will be able to reuse later. Fish are time gated anyways. Emblem domain is also incredibly useful for many, many characters.

Or you could use Dragon's Bane for Hyperbloom but that's a great way to not actually see the cool new 5 star you pooled.

The maddening part was trying to make notes on where locked clearance stuff was so I could remember to come back later. I like exploring the vertical area design except it's very hard to remember where you've been and make notes when there's two or three layers. Hell I can't even tell where the teleport waypoints even are. They should just add another layer to the map screen tbh.

I think there's a distinction between "not good" and "not optimal." Most characters have uses within a niche and can be made abyss viable with proper teambuilding. VERY few 4*s are optimal.

Also even just going by meta popularity you are really underselling Kuki who is not only the most popular on that list but the 4th most used 4 star in the entire game now, beating every launch character but the National 3. She was likely designed specifically for Dendro so it's not really an issue that it took time for people to catch on.

My opinion doesn't really matter there because it's more about how the artist feels about their skills improving, and I would never comment on that to their face because my subjective opinion isn't the point.

And make no mistake about it-- I don't understand the why either, but I'm not the one who is trying to claim that because my opinion is different with respect to a certain game's art that it's impossible to say it's objectively pretty, ugly, or whatever else. It is possible it's just about whether you're secure enough in your world view to be okay with that.

No, you're the one claiming that you don't understand what objective truth of art is but are still defending it, which is honestly much weirder to me. I'm perfectly secure with my worldview, it just seems to be incompatible with yours. And that's ok because part of my worldview is that these disagreements are bound to happen when people don't agree on objective truth!

The thing with a lot of recent 4-stars is that many of them tend to be supports for specific 5* units. Sara for Raiden, Faruzan for Wanderer (and Xiao), Gorou for Itto. In addition they tend to require high constellations for power level, quality of life, or both, and aren't as useable straight out the gate like the more generalist launch characters are.

Looking at your characters, Layla is a pretty good Cryo shielder, I don't think she has heals but she's allegedly on par with Diona who you don't have. Ganyu might like her. Heizou can also be built as a decent Anemo main DPS that works with Faruzan. Thoma is used in Burgeon teams (dendro + hydro to bloom + pyro to burgeon). And if you really want to use Yanfei because you like her more than Xiangling, you have the team for her (Yanfei/Xingqiu/Bennett and a flex like Fischl/Sucrose/Beidou) but it's not as universally strong as the Xiangling + Bennett team.

So yeah they're not bad but you can see how they're significantly less flexible, and people value that when they're limited by resin.

But I also can't be surprised when a game like Calico, which reminds me of early PS2 graphics mixed with an N64 blur, draws a mixed response. It doesn't make it outright bad, but there's a question of efficacy that's fair to ask even when you understand where they're coming from.

Oh I'm not surprised, what I take umbrage with is equating it with an "objective" value judgement, like para says.

And I'll be completely frank: similar to the "modern art" debate there's a reactionary tinge wrapped up in that value judgement whether people realize it or not.

I mean yeah, obviously it's not just trying to look bad, but that doesn't mean there's no room for critique of its visuals. Axiom Verge 1 was very much Metroid by way of Amiga, which wasn't my favourite style but certainly worked alright. From what I've seen of AV2, its use of textures feels like a major callback to shareware and early indie games, and that does tend to evoke a "cheap" feeling.

you can critique visuals all you want but most of the "critique" in this topic is just equating an art style being objectively bad on some sort of "good art" metric

Like I'm not actually familiar enough with AV and AV2. But Golden Idol I have no problem with calling "ugly" because it is very deliberately a grotesque version of classic adventure games and like SCUMM stuff. That is way, way different from saying "graphics don't matter," it is actually the exact opposite.

Likewise a game looking "cheap" really doesn't bother me much because the reason indie games look cheap is because they...often are? Like Calico I've seen played and it looks fine, even good! It's a 3d indie game, they look like that. But it doesn't have "bad graphics," the effort is going into the visual design and color pallette rather than sheer graphical fidelity. Is it MY preferred aesthetic? No but who gives a shit. It accomplishes the goals it sets out to do.

Games can miss the mark with this all the time (Octopath, for example, has a neat style with a lot of visual effects that end up muddying the look in an unfortunate way) but it's unclear to me what people think the mark even is

You can also do Taser with Miko, Fischl, Xingqiu, and Jean/Bennett, but I think a Dendro team will be her best option. Aggrevate with Jean was mentioned but another possibility is Quickbloom which adds a little hydro for blooms. Mona or Barbara if you want a healer can slot in there (though the ideal 4th is Kokomi).

Dendro teams tend to have less character overlap so the best option is to have that be one team so Childe or Ganyu can have their pick from the rest of your roster. Lot of options.

IIRC it's easier to get blooms going hydro on-field, Dendro on off-field and enemy, and I've heard of people using EM Kokomi for the on fielder in Nilou teams for example.

It's probably better to save the bilets unless you are sitting on a ton of them. I don't think the passive ability makes a ton of difference on characters that want EM right now. Iron Sting is probably technically better on Kazuha who can do some AOE damage but Kuki doesn't really care (the passive doesn't affect hyperbloom unfortunately).

I have played Pokemon RB recently (via randomizer which mind you has some QOL attached) and it was much, much worse than I remembered. And I remembered it being pretty bad. This isn't a contest.

This list feels like a really powerful indictment of how lackluster this year was in gaming outside of Elden Ring

Idk, there are a lot of indie bangers this year, and about 8-10 games on this list I want to start or return to. Citizen Sleeper and NORCO are excellent, I'm having a good time with Pentiment so far. Immortality was also great, way too low on this list but I suppose an FMV game about movies is too niche even for indie game enthusiasts.

edit: It does feel a little cheesy to see stuff like Fortnite, Marvel Snap, and Vampire Survivors in the top 10 but I think that's more of an indication with how people are interacting with games these days than an indictment. That kind of GAAS comfort game you keep returning to is a big deal. It's kinda alluded to in the writeups and Polygon did a whole video on it recently too so it's not surprising.
