What are you even talking about? The only Star Fox 64 like games after 64 are the literal 3DS remake and Assault.

Everyone knows critics hate popcorn movies, but critics also disproportionately hate animated movies.

I just remembered that Star Fox 2 wasn't released on the SNES since it would have been seen as too primitive compared to the N64. Really weird because other SNES game were still being released like the generic Kirby 3 on the SNES in 1997.

I'd say the real problem is that of the franchises meager six titles over 30 years, half of them are reboots of the first game.

Assault is the easily the best post 64 game. Too bad it was stuck with a bunch of mediocre tank and on foot missions.

To be fair, the original Star Fox had the Super FX chip, and 64 launched with the rumble pak. Hell, even the 64 remake had 3D. No wonder Miyamoto thinks Star Fox needs a gimmick to be successful.

Makes sense. Despite Miyamoto wanting to make Star Fox a gimmick machine, 64 is remembered for its great gameplay and cheesy atmosphere.

They made it really obvious who the new characters are (besides Columbus). They are so much more colorful (literally) than the old cast.

Great game, although sometimes I wished it stayed more grounded. Ending spoilers: Having a final fight where you have dueling rat tornadoes is a much different tone than the start of the game.
