I'm driving my dad's former SUV because he doesn't use it anymore and my little Kia has been having problem after problem.

But can any other one vehicle do all of them at least "okay-ly"? Some people would have a preference for a jack-of-all-trades vehicle over one that does only some things but does them very well.

Legal mandates for gas mileage. Auto manufacturers have to hit average X mpg goals for their trucks. The easiest way of doing that is to build SUV and crossover vehicles that count as "trucks" as they're defined by the laws, thus raising the average for their truck fleet.

This is the reason. Classic example of businesses being 10 steps ahead of old laws.

When there's an exception to a law, the exception becomes the law.

SUVs are good family cars. Easier to get your kids in when they're smaller, easier to climb into the seat yourself, lots of space for passengers and cargo. Car can do a bit of off-road and get places a car with much less ground clearance can't or will get damaged doing it.

Diesel engines are very thrifty too.

The front blind spot is measurably bigger, but just as big a factor is the fact that they hit higher on the human body. Instead of getting hit in the legs and rolling on the hood, you get hit in the chest and go down.

I can't imagine have to park big ass trucks or SUVs, parking my civic is easy af and it handles great
