So far tonight I've discovered Sadda's pot den, returned to the Earth Cavern and killed Lich, got a canoe, realized it was time to pull up my big boy pants because the difficulty just spiked, and now I'm in Mt. Gulg, aka the worse place on the goddamn planet. The volcano never really bothered me Id agree with this: McMarbles posted... *laughs in Ice Cave-ish* That place gave me chills (pun intended) when I was younger. Sorcerers could just change your day completely with an ambush followed by 1-hit KOs to your whole party. | The_Popo 04/20/23 7:36:37 PM #9 | I tried to do this a number of years ago, and I hit some burnout at FF8. And I wasnt doing a playthrough on every game like you are doing, it was just FF1-10. Just got the Pixel Remasters myself. Not sure if Ill hammer them all out in succession, because I wanna platinum them all (got them on PS4). Doing it will be a piece of cake on FF1, but looking at some of the trophies on the other games, I wonder if Ill regret it as I hunt for a pink tail in FF4 - something Ive never actually gotten before. As for FF1, I used a random number generator to pick my team. I got Thief (named Robin), Thief (named Hood), White Mage (named Dazzle) and Black Mage (named Shade). I always get nervous about taking a thief in FF1 because my mind always thinks that its still the NES thief, which was preeeeeetty bad. | The_Popo 04/17/23 10:23:06 AM #35 | Street Fighter IV For years, I thought Id die with Smash Melee as my favorite game, due to the memories I had of playing it in college with a large group of friends. But when SF4 came out, I got deeper into that game than I ever will with another game again. Id always been good at Street Fighter - easily the best of my group of friends. And when the game first launched, I had a 56 game win streak and 44 game win streak in online ranked mode. However, that was largely in part to the huge influx of casual players (myself included) who were playing it at launch. I knew how to play Street Fighter, but I didnt know how to play Street Fighter, if that makes sense. I started to learn things that most people wouldnt know about cross ups, buffering, negative edge, plinking, option selects, kara throws, etc. This was also the first game that made me realize there was a community out there. The first time I stumbled up Evo moment #37 (Daigos parry at Evo), I watched it over and over. Not for the gameplay, but to see the camera pan over to the crowd. I had no idea things like that existed - massive banquet halls rented out for the purpose of video game tournaments. After that, I would watch all the big tournies, Evo became a mini holiday for me, and I just kept playing. Also, my brother was playing it at the same time as me. Ive always viewed him as someone who is really good at video games, but Ive always been a step ahead of him. We were basically equals in SF4, and when I moved out of the house, wed occasionally (not too often) have online sessions that would last for hours - like 75+ matches before wed call it a night. tl;dr = SF4 was the rare game that made me really do a deep dive over like nearly a decade, constantly getting better and learning of the fighting game community in the process.
