KCF0107 12/13/22 12:23:45 AM #326 | End-of-Season Season Awards The following posts will contain all the awards that will be given out this season. While participation is optional, I would really appreciate it if you would take the 15 minutes or so out of your life to pick out your choices for each category and submit them to me via PM before the deadline. Most of the awards are from the game itself. There are a few that are entirely of my creation. The former awards will have both a User and Madden winner while the later will solely have a User winner. The nominees for awards from the game will mostly come from the game itself with a few categories I will do from scratch. To prevent spoilers, I reorder the nominees by team name, first name, or last name every year (except Breakout/Comeback is by positional order and GM is always by name). This year, I chose first name. For each category, you choose the one player/coach/person you believe to be most worthy of the award. For the Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and MVP of the Year, awards, you do not have to vote for the any of the listed players (I lowered it from 10 to 7 listed candidates this season). If you feel another player up for another award is applicable and more worthy for one of these awards, you may select them as a write-in candidate even though you should know they won't win. However, I will use my discretion to null a write-in vote if I feel it to be disingenuous. Because of the holiday season, we will have an extended period to do this. The deadline to submit to me a ballot will be Sunday, January 8th at 5 PM ET. Bucking what we have done in recent seasons, we are going back to having the award show and playoff sim be the same night, so I plan to run the awards a couple hours after the deadline and do the sim after. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 12/11/22 11:15:25 PM #321 | The Raiders have the league's best defense, but they enter the offseason with a severely injured offense that was already terrible (30th overall) before the injuries and a very suspect resume. They were one of three teams who had far easier schedules than the rest of the league (.456 SoS 2nd easiest in the league), and their only three wins against teams with winning records were against the then-abysmal Browns and both games against the Express. That defense is legit though leading the league in yards and points allowed. Swap this offense with any other AFC playoff team offense, and yeah, I think this team can make the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, we can't do that, so we are left with a team that is too one-dimensional and lacks the body of work to have faith in them to win two or even three playoff games. The Seahawks statistically should not be in the playoffs as it is rare to see one finish with a Bottom 10 running attack and defense. I can't see them making the Super Bowl and should be heavy underdogs against the Orcas. That being said, they have enough star power on both sides of the ball and are prone to some offensive explosions. Their ceiling as such is higher than the teams below them, so this is a good place to slot them. Like in their previous playoff appearances, the Eagles are limping into the playoffs and just look lost, especially since they are down to their third string HB. In a way, they are similar to the Raiders, but the Raiders are still more somehow reliable on offense. Their defense was elite, but they will be facing the Vikings who performed more like a #2 seed this season, so they might be the home team at the most risk of elimination in the wild card round. The Browns completely turned their season around, but I wouldn't say they are a particularly good team. With two of their best players for either the entire or most of the postseason (MLB David Harris and HB Mark Ingram), that really puts the onus on Josh Portis to carry this team. against the Express and if they get past them, one of the Dolphins/Raiders defenses the following round. I think that is asking too much of him and this team. The Colts made some great strides on offense, especially the OL allowing a league-average sack total and second-year HB Jamaal Williams scoring 11 more TDs and upping his YPC from 3.5 to 4.3. The defense didn't just regress, they absolutely plummeted to 29th. They enter the postseason on a 4-game losing streak and face the Pioneers in Columbus whom they lost to by a combined score of 54-22 this season. Good on the Colts for rebounding from picking 2nd overall, but I don't think a deep playoff run is a realistic expectation. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 12/11/22 11:15:21 PM #320 | KCF's Playoff Power Rankings 1. St. Louis Rams 2. Miami Dolphins 3. Portland Express 4. Minnesota Vikings 5. San Juan Orcas 6. Columbus Pioneers 7. Green Bay Packers 8. Oakland Raiders 9. Seattle Seahawks 10. Philadelphia Eagles 11. Mexico City Browns 12. Indianapolis Colts The Rams enter the playoffs with a 10 game winning streak and are firing on all cylinders. They had a monster productive two-headed HB pair, but with Matt Forte done for the season, they have just Mike Davis, but this was his best season production and efficiency-wise despite just being a part-time starter. Ryan Tannehill has been a gunslinger in recent seasons with high yardage, TD, INT, and completion% totals. This was his worst season regarding turnovers, and his worst passer rating at 77.8, but I trust him more than any other QB not named Sam Keller in the playoffs. The Dolphins enter the postseason on an 8-game winning streak. They will be without two likely future Hall of Famers in TE Zach Miller and WR A.J. Green as well as C Neil Christman who had 43 blocks vs 2 sacks allowed as the full-time starter. They are deep at pass-catchers, so maybe they will be fine there, but their thin OL will sorely miss Christman. Their defense slipped slightly this season, but they are still an elite unit that finished 6th overall, 3rd against the pass, and allowed the 4th fewest points. Since I left them, they have made one Super Bowl in four playoffs, losing to the Vikings in S15. This is not a strong AFC playoff field, so they have to be the heavy favorites out of the conference. The Express had a pretty big makeover due to financial reasons over the offseason, but they ended up with the #1 offense despite allowing the 2nd-most sacks in the league at 60. HB Lamar Miller and WRs Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp blew past their personal bests, and QB Jacoby Brisset set personal highs in yards and completion % while still finishing in the Top 10 in passer rating. The defense slipped to 12th, but nobody is going to complain about having a 12-ranked defense. Along with the sacks, the turnover differential (-5) is a little concerning, but this is a team who blew away most of their competion and played tight games against higher seeded teams (Dolphins, Raiders). They are entering the playoffs having won five of six, and they play an inferior opponent in the first round. You can easily claim them to be the second-best AFC team, so a deep playoff run is not out of the question for the reigning AFC champs. Another wild card team in the Top 4!? The Vikings have been excellent on both sides of the ball. Trading QB Josh Portis and signing QB Jimmy Garoppolo and WR Brandon Marshall is up there among the best offseason decisions in the league. The balanced, high-powered offense is one thing, but the major strides the team made on defense is the key here. They struggled against the pass after losing two Hall of Famers following their S15 SB win, but they bounced back to finish 8th against the pass, and their run D climbed all the way to 3rd. They didn't score as well as they should have, and the Week 17 loss of HB Dion Lewis until at least the conference championship does raise some concerns, but with how well their defense and passing game has played, they can afford to take some hits in the running game with C.J. Prosise now leading the way there. The Orcas are always seeking for ways to improve the makeup of their team as they have a high amount of roster turnover each season. The defense remained intact to begin the preseason, but the offense saw massive changes with bringing in or promoting six new starters. After finishing 16th on offense a season ago, they finished 7th this season, scoring the 2nd most points per game and have a league best +12 turnover differential. They are balanced, and aside from one blowup against the Falcons, they have been one of the better blocking teams in the league. The question for this team is can they stop weirdly giving up a bunch of points? Their defense and special teams have been great, and even looking deeper at team stats, nothing jumps out as to why they used have a terrible points allowed per game figure. They ended up in a tie for 16th at 19.0 per game, so it seemed to have regressed to the mean some by the season's end, but they gave up 31 to the Giants, 37 and 29 in two games against the Falcons, and 30 against Washington. That's not going to fly against some guaranteed and potential playoff opponents (Rams, Seahawks, and Eagles finished in the Top 10 in points per game). The Pioneers have had their offense gutted by injuries, and it showed when they were hovering around .500 halfway through the season. Once HB DeMarco Murray came back and helped balance the offense, they ended the season winning five straight and won the division by two games after being multiple games down to begin that stretch. When healthy, they have one of the best three offensive skill trios in WR Stefon Diggs, TE Mark Andrews, and Murray. QB Bryce Rivers has been great in light of QB Russell Wilson's season-ending injury after just two games. Only the Dolphins and Express can match their offensive prowess in the AFC. Their defense has played better than both of those teams, finishing 4th overall and in the Top 5 against both the run and pass. While it would be a seeding upset, don't sleep on this team being the AFC rep in the Super Bowl. The Packers are a weird team. I thought with their terrible injuries, including QB Tyrod Taylor, whom their entire offense was based around would cause the team to be dead in the water. They weren't a great team, but they finished 11-5 and earned a first round bye. Part of that is the renaissance of Tim Tebow. He finished 5th in the league in passer rating and had just his second season with a 60+% completion percentage. Their HB group has been so battered that their FB has the second-most carries on the team, and as things stand now, their starting HB in the divisonal round could be third-stringer David Cobb. Their OL has been great, and the defense has started to turn things around after a poor start. It is very weird that this team earned a first round bye, but at the same time, I do believe in them some, even if they are outmatched and outperformed by many of their NFC playoff rivals. If I ranked them solely on the merit of their play, they would slot in lower, but this team has defied expectations, and they have to play one fewer game than most teams and are guaranteed a home game. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |

KCF0107 12/11/22 9:54:06 PM #319 | I post this every season the playoffs roll around, but I'm here to tell you who the SB contenders are this postseason based on historical data. I don't tell people ad nauseum that the best path to success is defense and the running game for nothing. Of the previous 32 teams to make the SB, 30/32 have finished in the top half of the league in running offense while 30/32 have finished in the Top 10 on defense. The exceptions were the inaugural season Dolphins (19th on D), S13's Pioneers (11th on D), S14's Pioneers (18th in rushing), S15's Vikings (11th on D), and S16's Rams (24th in rushing) Your SB contenders this season would then be... Dolphins (T-16th in rushing, 6th on defense) Eagles (10th in rushing, 3rd on defense) Orcas (T-14th in rushing, 9th on defense) Pioneers (8th in rushing, 4th on defense) Rams (11th in rushing, 2nd on defense) Raiders (T-14th in rushing, 1st on defense) Vikings (15th in rushing, 5th on defense) - Colts were 17th in rushing and 29th on defense - Browns had #1 rushing but finished 23rd on defense - Express did finish 13th in rushing, but landed just outside on defense in 12th - Packers finished just in the top half with T-16th in rushing but were 20th on D - Seahawks were 24th in rushing and defense While the Express were close, the Colts/Packers/Seahawks, who were much further away from the typical mold of a successful team, got in on the merits have having Top 10 turnover differentials at +4 or better. The Browns are tough to gauge because they were completely different teams in each half. They probably had something resembling an average-ranked defense in the second half, in addition to their #1 rushing offense. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy |
