WaterLink 08/15/22 3:55:16 AM #339 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Again? Honestly I thought about just closing my account because I got a 30 day purge with a clean mod history for some real stupid shit. Was regarding that 10 year old that had to have an abortion, and this was like the first day we heard about it so we had no real info at the time, I said it may have been a fellow 10 classmate and not rape, was just putting the possibility out there before we all jumped to conclusions while we had no info. And some other guy said 10 year olds can't consent, and I said yeah with adults, but if two 5th graders have sex they're raping each other? Which he replied yes, and then I got a 30 day purg for "going to bat for 10 year olds having sex", not sure if he got anything because well yeah I don't have an alt and I was in purg. No avenue for disputing, because I did NOT advocate or "go to bat for" anything, I just put it put there that some 5th graders do have sex with each other and it's absurd to think that act is rape. Other dude literally said the pregnant 10 year old would be a rapist if she had sex with her classmate, but I get the month purg? --- https://i.imgur.com/Y5Tq1gV.gif https://i.imgur.com/sgLkVQU.gif Joe Burrow, the legend |

WaterLink 08/08/22 4:58:35 AM #101 | spikethedevil posted... Oh and WTF at having important terms only explained properly in the in game encyclopedia. what terms weren't explained by dialogue in 13? They adequately discussed fal'cie and l'cie and cie'th outside of the datalog. I'm just saying it was always there in storage so you don't have to go back to get an explanation. The most important interactions in a JRPG are among the party members. Having a random NPC in a town after an explosion go "Oh, what an explosion, my legs almost gave out!" adds nothing, I already saw the cutscene where the explosion happened, I don't need mindless, pointless descriptions of what I already know. FFXIII just cuts more to the chase regarding stuff like that and honestly I'm kind of thankful for it. I'm not without criticisms of 13. Like I said before, I think they could have opened up the combat system earlier instead of holding your hand with training wheels for so damn long, but I had a blast. Honestly there are few games out there where buffs/debuffs are as important as they are in FFXIII, even outside of boss battles, but this really was one where you needed buffs and debuffs to get through and it was a fun navigation of a game. That's all I can say And if I may, I like how FFXIII gives the whole party crystarium points to advance whether they participated in battle or not. One thing that's kind of annoying me about FFX so far is when theres an enemy I can easily crush but I have to rotate people in to just defend or something so they can get AP before finally delivering the blow. 13 let you just roll through your fodder without caring if anyone else was involved without consequence. --- https://i.imgur.com/Y5Tq1gV.gif https://i.imgur.com/sgLkVQU.gif Joe Burrow, the legend |

WaterLink 08/08/22 4:55:51 AM #100 | I'm not hating on X. I'm playing through right now and actually liking it. Don't see how X can't be called a hallway simulator either though, I think I'm pretty far in it now to say (in that temple in Calm Lands after fighting Defender). Every place I've been in has been a "hallway" until I just got to the Calm Lands (which is just like the Steppe). I will say X has more minigames but idk how much dodging lightning 200x adds to the experience positively. I'm interested to see how the Arena turns out though, I think I like this more than Titan's trials. --- https://i.imgur.com/Y5Tq1gV.gif https://i.imgur.com/sgLkVQU.gif Joe Burrow, the legend |

WaterLink 08/08/22 4:46:35 AM #98 | spikethedevil posted... X handles being linear well with various open areas, actual towns and NPCS while XIII is just corridors for 12 of its 13 chapters. @WaterLink Honestly I liked the way XIII handled that. You get key items which unlocks different shops which sells you items or upgrade materials or weapons and they're available at every save station going forward as you unlock them no matter where you are. Much better than the "certain shops in certain locations are the only ones that sell these items so you have to backtrack all the way there to stock up or grind for money to buy it now while you're here" mechanic. Most NPC dialogue in JRPGs are throwaway lines anyway so they kept it in the datalog that updated as you go so you can always read up on it. Those are always mindless chores I'm glad they streamlined that if I'm being honest. My only complaint about 13 is how long it took for it to give you full control of your party and fully open up the battle system. The first 9 or 10 chapters were a gradual tutorial, which I've played Trails in the Sky so I'm used to it. But once you got to Pulse and could willy nilly switch your party leader and active team it was game on and I really loved it. --- https://i.imgur.com/Y5Tq1gV.gif https://i.imgur.com/sgLkVQU.gif Joe Burrow, the legend |

WaterLink 08/07/22 11:55:42 PM #90 | Ivany2008 posted... 13 for me had one major weakness, and it wasn't the corridor simulator or even the story, it was the battle system. Love me some turn-based combat, but I really couldn't stand only controlling 1 character in combat. It infuriated me. I like that they essentially took that battle system and put it in Octopath, and fixed it though. Haven't played Octopath but I actually enjoyed the battle system in 13, it was actually one of my favorite parts with the paradigm shift and AI teammates. Libra the enemies and the AI adapts according to its weaknesses. The only time it kinda sucks is when your Sabs and Syns go out of the order you want (usually poison is lower on the list for AI Sabs so if you want to get poison on something early you kinda have to start off as a Sab yourself, which generally means the AI is attacking which if you've Libra'd they should be doing pretty optimally). I felt like I had my hands full and the system could get pretty hectic as it was only controlling one character, I feel like manually controlling all 3 would have been a headache but that's just me. Of the FFs I've played a decent amount of (3-9,13) The only ones I've actually hated was 3 and 8. I'm playing through 10 for the first time right now and I'm enjoying it so far. Though I do gotta say for all the shit XIII gets for being linear I don't see why we didn't hear so much of that for X. The Calm Lands is basically the Steppe, the Sphere Grid and Crystarium are pretty similar. The Crystarium was more linear, but at least different characters had access to different abilities in each role other characters couldn't get so each character still feels unique even with fully maxed Crystariums. With X it feels like everyone started out unique but as I'm filling the grid out everyone is converging together to be basically the same character in the end, only Yuna will be able to use Aeons. --- https://i.imgur.com/Y5Tq1gV.gif https://i.imgur.com/sgLkVQU.gif Joe Burrow, the legend |
