Couldn't find the original. I believe we had that on VHS. Used disc store didn't have it - believe me, I checked. Interesting fun fact btw

Yeah I'd say they can for sure! There's only light continuity.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Will look into options for watching the first three. Crystal MacGuffin is almost universally considered the worst one anyway. May want to watch at least one of the better ones.

It's even worse than we thought. The mass quit was in part to give production the finger for being inept. Say what you want about Probst and Grodner, but they're way better at running a show than this crew was.

The only thing I noticed upon looking through is Indiana Jones, Crystal Skull is the fourth film following Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade. Don't know how concerned you are about that, if you've seen them already or what have you.
Don't think I ever saw Temple of Doom, and haven't seen the other two in like 20 years.

May be best to go back there, but I'm not sure if they're needed for Crystal MacGuffin. Can each stand alone to an enjoyable extent?

P. S. I'm mobile, will update votes later!

I haven't seen one of those in a long time. May have to get a context refresher, even if the basic gist of it is obvious.

Correction just so you know, Tarantino's debut film is Reservoir Dogs, not Pulp Fiction, if you wanted to watch that first (they're set in the same universe with connected characters).
I may have to do that, then. Thanks for the info. Will look into it. I should be able to get it for $3 before the store closes (sometime next week).

Are there any other holes in THE LIST that I similarly need to rectify? Prequels or connections that I may have missed?

Question for you guys: Should I watch Dawn of the Dead before Shaun of the Dead? AFAIK the latter is a supplemental parody of the former, constantly making fun of it in ways that are more understood and appreciated if you've seen Dawn. While I know Shaun can stand on its own as well, is it better to have seen the movie it's spoofing beforehand?

Ive seen over 90% of the movies on this list. Theres some great ones for sure, but I feel you should start with something R rated based on the story you told. With that in mind you cant go wrong with Pulp Fiction.
After thinking it over, Pulp Fiction is a fantastic starting point. It's one of the earliest films on the list (Fiddler on the Roof being the earliest, but after that it's just Never Say Never Again and the three 80s Rat Pack classics before Pulp), it's the debut film of an iconic director I have three other films by, the film is legendary (and one I've seen many clips and quotes from over the years, but never that much in one timeframe), and it's rated R like my mom would often put the kibosh on. I think this is what I'll go with as an opener, both because it was the first to get two votes and because it's bound to be influenced or referenced in many a film thereafter.

Zaveid went down pretty easily after I ate a Chiffon Cake to reduce my wind damage. I enter Loegres, stay at the inn, and it becomes night. I spend a good chunk of time wandering around and find out that the game apparently wanted me to try to leave town. In the middle of the night. In a place where that had been explicitly banned. Uhhhh.... that's some logic. Who would've thought to look there?

Lunarre - the creep who was after Alisha early in the game - is there. I beat the shit out of him, and then he gets cloned a few times and I beat the shit out of them too. I chase after him to the shrinechurch and his boss obliterates him - she's the one who Dezel has been wanting to kill. Sorry says "She's not a hellion!" and thinks that means she's off limits, even though she creates hellions despite not exuding malevolence in her domain. None of this makes sense. Sorry, you're not the only person in this party. You promised Dezel you'd help him get even, right? Geez.

This chick tells the story. She accuses Dezel of outright possessing Rose, creating the Scattered Bones as a way to recreate his Windriders and relive his days of glory. She never "betrayed" him - she merely left, and the Windriders had run their course. He'd even control her body at times to do this and wanted to take it a step farther by getting the armatus - which is why he wanted practically all of this. So... he's only been following his own ends, and doesn't share our ideals to end the daemonblight. He just wants to assassinate people and use Rose to do it, since she was apparently this SO PURE vessell or whatever the game tried to justify it as.

I win the fight and the next part - after she uses Double Team and Dezel goes rogue by controlling Rose's body and breaking the pact we never should've made with him - Dezel finally feels he's about to kill her for whatever reason (he's probably been projecting) before she invokes the Earthen Historia through this illusionary daemon. She shows Dezel scenes from his past, including... Rose getting engaged to the Prince of Rolance?! WHAT?! What's next, are they trying to justify her as royal blood now?

Rose comes to the prince and says the captain's missing... and Dezel and the other Windrider guy have to block him from doing anything to her. When he says they smell delicious, it becomes very apparent who this guy is: Lunarre. The terrible scene that follows has arrests, knives, sacrifice (of the guy Dezel got the hat from), "Angels of death" and a lot of confusion, all of which was apparently Dezel's fault for no explicable reason. I keep coming back to type this out to try to make sense of it all. Too much is happening at once and they're asking too many questions without answering anything. What of this is even real? Did Rose REALLY just draw her knives on her supposed fiance? Or was this distorted by this... illusionist? Wouldn't surprise me if she altered what we saw through this very real daemon.

Dezel and Rose are mortally wounded, and Dezel recognizes that he's going to die. He asks Sorry to fire Siegfried with his spirit... and Sorry does. It's apparently suicide, because it is. This isn't exactly explained since Zaveid gets away with it all the time. Dezel severs the bond and gets one last moment with Rose, who says she's grateful for what he did - even if it was a mistake, like we all make. I still don't even know what "what he did" means but this was most certainly a trap. This Symone is ALSO an "Angel of Death." Whatever she did to earn that title. The game threw a lot at me at once and expected me to understand it all, despite very little of it having even been alluded to before. Sure, this last scene between Dezel and Rose was great - it felt intimate enough and it certainly healed Rose MAGICALLY (not to mention the funny bit about the geeks in the ruins). Who most likely never wanted to kill Sorry, by the way - that would've been Dezel's doing. And Dezel is, apparently, just dead. He just died. That's it. Zaveid arrives and picks up Dezel's hat. He knows what this means, along with Symone saying "take time to grieve."

Highlights from the scenes following the Big Event where I speak to everyone... Edna alludes to Eizen being "the Reaper" not too differently than Dezel... Lailah finds folding origami comforting... Rose realizes that Dezel had been protecting her... Zaveid invites himself along just the same as Dezel had... yeah. That's about it. I head back to the inn and get a scene the next morning. Zaveid says that he still has thousand-year sour grapes with Eizen and Laphicet aka Maotelus. He seems to think that Maotelus went missing because he fused with Heldalf - the best part of this is Zaveid referring to him as "our baby boy." Absolutely hysterical knowing the history. But that would explain a lot of things. And it would make sense considering Velvet - Laphicet's aunt and caretaker - was the original Lord of Calamity. If Heldalf has any relation to Velvet, he's probably also tied to Innominat. So it could be that as well. Rose starts bawling and passes on Dezel's message to not waste too much time grieving and go out and kick ass. Okay. I stop there.

So... thoughts. That Dezel scene was wild, but there was a pretty big problem: Everything happened this way because it needed to. It did not feel like a natural flow of events. Sure, there were pockets of awesome stuff, but it was too many weird little details at once that could've been expanded upon. "Angels of Death" as a reveal was needless, for example, since... that hasn't even been mentioned before. This sequence could've definitely used some rewrites. A lot of times the developers make things happen because they want to as opposed to letting the story write itself. It could have been better with a little more handiwork.

...did I miss anything or get something wrong here? I was trying my best to keep up. No idea what was important and what was not.

Yeah, all my great-grandparents were here by the time of WWII, and all my grandparents were American citizens. Not sure on many details. I never met any of my great-grandparents. They were all gone by the time I could form a coherent sentence.

I did mean for that to be a tough question - I'd think for a long time, too. It's also difficult to pick the right people. And the five word limit makes it even harder. I'd probably choose my paternal grandparents too, and say something along the lines of "Miss you every day." The memories are all there.

The third would be something completely different - someone who's alive. My dream girl. It's hard to form a five-word workable pick-up line that would amuse her and get me a date, but something along the lines of "Let's make our dreams reality." Something tells me she'd just know what that means. (I don't want to post her name here for her own privacy)

What the hell am I doing to myself? This will be a long project. Each of you gets five nominations off THE LIST (every DVD I own, sans James Bond movies I have memorized), replacing as I watch them:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kRkfiaMD8dddREBYH37OWtI7jfbhvxoKyyovYxtorD0

How do nominations work?
Each person gets five. No trades allowed. Once I watch one of your five, you get a new vote. All unviewed movies are fair game and I'll pick from those with the most votes, genre depending on mood and timeliness (i.e. watching Elf in December). There may be rare times I'll watch whatever I want; this is the only way I'll rewatch a movie before this is over. Zachnorn and Johnbobb already nominated because I asked them to. Johnbobb gets three more since he did it blind in his top 5s topic.

One caveat: If you nominate a later movie in a series (save for Spy Kids 2), it will defer to the first and move through series order. So a vote for The Dark Knight Rises would start at Batman Begins before moving to The Dark Knight and finally to Rises. You do not replace this vote as it stays as one of your five. This will be denoted on THE LIST with a * for each movie your vote would move to. Keep in mind that I'd like to watch series movies relatively close together, so there's not a huge gap that would require me rewatching the prior movie(s).

How did these movies get decided?
All of these are DVDs, except for the ones colored blue (BluRay) and purple (Disney+). About half were found at my parents' place when they sold their condo. The rest were picked up from the clearance of a used disc store that's closing (RIP). I kinda went crazy and spent more money than I'd have liked but I needed a good splurge for once! Some of you may have voted in my topic surveying definitive 2000s movies - if you didn't figure it out, that existed to help me complete THE LIST. I found all of what I singled out in that topic (all but one legally). Thank you guys for that!

Please note that I will not be adding anything else to THE LIST as of this time. Except maybe a couple MCU movies if needed for Age of Ultron.

Why haven't you seen [MOVIE]?
Because I haven't. Please don't judge me! I was never very social and my mom always hated R-rated movies. If my sister, who worked at the movie theater for a while, let me sneak into one, we'd both be grounded - and my mom WOULD have found out. This topic exists to rectify my past folly and see a lot of good movies that I either never saw or haven't in a while.

How long will this last?
Over a year. I intend to watch 3 per week but there may be times when I only get one or two in. It will depend on how busy or sane I am. I do have other projects here - I have NOT forgotten and will get to them as my life allows.
~~~
My parents also gave me a really nice recliner - one that's better than those at modern movie theaters (lumbar controls!), so that's going to be nice to watch this in. The first one will probably be this Saturday - I wanted to post this a couple days in advance to allow people to nominate. Let me know if you have questions and I'll answer them to the best of my ability!
The point system was bad for that very reason. I thought similarly when TJ explained it. "Then we're going to know who wins before the reveal..." Same was true for the contestants. They didn't care to die for $10,000. Danny solved the Sudoku because he'd done a book of them before S41 so it wasn't hard for him.
Angela got screwed but should have tried for an hour; production should have explained the rules. She was the best competitor and I actually liked her this time. Sarah is awful and got lucky by getting the first leg solo.
They should have just scrapped the pairs once Ben got pulled. Which was because the doctor had looked at his X-ray, but it was awkward timing. But that meant they should have reworked things since this wasn't fair.
Really, a bad finale that turned me off from the show.
It's the fact that she didn't get a comeuppance that troubles me the most. Evil prevailed. The one bitching won. The two bitching about the bitching lost. "My goodness, why don't you win a challenge if you're acting so much better than us?" Someone like Karen is bad TV if she lasts for too long and gets away with her shit. Good villains go a long way, but this one was obnoxious and won despite the OTTN edit.
Angela should be remembered as truly robbed. She got a really bad draw, an impossible task to do solo. Desi got really robbed too, just because cats can't swim. This finale was awful and I truly regret watching the season.
Agreed. It sucks that Sarah can whine and bitch and moan all season long, and then she's our winner. Like...they couldn't have edited her in a way that'd make me happy for her at least?
Yup, the biggest problem is the editing, but... I don't know if they could have edited her more favorably tbh. Her huge tantrum at the Connect Four challenge affected too much for them to hide it. Both that day and the rest of the way.
The way they edited this made me root for Angela and Alyssa HARD because they were throwing shade at a cantankerous toddler who whined when she didn't get her way. This finale was downright depressing to watch. The only time I felt emotional was the Angela/Alyssa duel. Like... that I felt bad, because I actually wanted one of those two to win. For the girls, it was just them; Desi and Cayla I wouldn't have minded, but both were just kinda there. Karen and whatsherface just... no.
Showing a winner as an incessant whiner who never shuts up about her fixations is a great way to turn people off from your show. I MUTED my TV when she was gloating at the end. It ruined the great moment of Kiki freaking out when Danny FaceTimed her. I do feel really happy for them even though they don't need the money (because NFL), because Danny's a good dude, and I like him quite a bit and have since he berated Jeff Probst for the game-breaking hourglass twist. Karen... well I've never liked her, but I never hated her either until this season. If you asked me in June, I'd have said "She's whatever. Sure, she can be obnoxious now and then, but is there anyone who isn't?" Now... I think she's one of the most obnoxious people in the history of CBS reality shows.
Oh, and... this final challenge was too sadistic, especially the thing about a woman having to do each part solo. Angela got the worst draw. I don't think that was fair to her. What else can she do there? Even if she tried for one hour, noticed how little progress she'd made compared to everyone else, and then went to take a nap and had no partner to wake her up... I'd say that's a good way to spin it. "They all had partners. One person does one hour, the other sleeps. They rotate. I had nobody to wake me up so I ended up sleeping all night." Karen would've whined about how "that's quitting" or whatever BS came out. Sorry, Angela's a better performer than you, and there's something VERY wrong with this.
In the end, I gave the show a chance and don't feel the need to give it another one.
Schadenfreude big time seeing Sarah suffer. She deserves it for being so petty. I'm hoping this means she doesn't win. That would ruin the season.
Poor Ben. MedEvac'd on the last day after the doctor looked at the x-rays. That... REALLY stings.
Enzo... you do know that by calling yourself "the Meow Meow" you're saying you hate water, yes? Like ANY cat? Yeah... he's dead weight. Sucks that Desi's out because that means Karen's more likely to win. And we can't have that - I won't watch the world championship thing if she's on it. I am 100% on the Angela/Alyssa side here - both those girls hauled ass to prove themselves instead of barking orders at people and acting like a spoiled brat. I respect people who work their butt off instead of have everything given to them.
I don't really like this points system because that means it's easy to figure out who can even win before the last part.
Angela beasting that onion knowing the trick should secure her and Danny some points - I didn't know that, actually, but I'm not vegan, nor ever will be. Cheese is too tasty! All I knew about lemon juice is that it can preserve cut-up apples.
The fact that not all parts were created equal to do solo is BAD and probably means we get the most unfavorable outcome UGH. GO ANGELA!
I just can't listen to her voice anymore. She is SO grating. And it's rare that I get to that point with anybody. Last one was Nicole Franzel. But I could not hate this any more, because... Angela and Alyssa are two of my faves. And Karen is my least favorite.
EDIT: Adding on... poor Alyssa. Angela still made mincemeat out of her, but the first thing she did was help her up and hug her. THAT is how you show sportsmanship. Somebody could learn a lesson from that. (Also, HOLY SHIT @ Angela crying - how did... that's possible?!)
Tyson's shade about Dom and ties, XD! Surprised that they allowed a tie instead of "whoever came back with their last one first" but... that's not entirely reasonable. Angela took way too much time on that slide puzzle. Those are easy to do; in this case, she should have just done the bottom row and worked her way up.
Sarah is saying "Angela doesn't try" when... honey, she's swamped you in over half the challenges thus far. If she "doesn't try" then you must be the laziest person here! Like... Sarah gets so blinded to reality because of how she thinks she's always right. She's horrifically wrong here, and I HATE how she's won this one. That said, Angela's not trying because she knows how Sarah is. She knows it doesn't matter, Sarah's just gonna spew the bullshit that she's spewing anyway, and find some lame excuse to put Alyssa in that isn't even true. Angela is a real badass. Sarah is just ass.
Hopefully they compromise and put Justine in. "Well, Cayla is a hard no for you, and Alyssa's a hard no for me... split the difference and go Justine?" is good math imho
"People panicking soothes me" is SUCH a Tyson thing, xD
This challenge looks BRUTAL. Especially since they're depleted from the day and didn't get notified until it got dark.
Game Brock is 'eh.' That iteration doesn't really do anything. Anime Brock, at his best, was awesome, though he was increasingly underutilized by the writers as the series went on.
While I'm at it, The discrepancy in game Misty vs. anime Misty also exists, since in the Gen 2 games you catch her making out with some guy at the cape. That would NEVER have happened in the anime, but it's great.
Great, just what I needed - $120 for yet another copy of Persona 5.
(tbh I actually think I'm good - I have two steelbooks already and my Shujin bag is what I typically take to anime cons)
I haven't been able to keep up with the current game unfortunately. I was too busy during the first several topics then got intimated by how much reading there was + how many other things I have to do.
Sorry guys!
Ah lots of posts to catch up on but don't have time right now but realized I forgot to do the most important thing that shouldn't be put off:
Looking for an H1 trade partner the rest of the way (for Tifa)
Figure most H1 pairings are already settled but if there was anyone still out there who could bail out a late entrant, would be appreciated...
somebody should take this imho
Cleared out another ruin. Beat Boss Troll on the second try. Wasn't a hard fight to adjust to. Later met up with Mayvin at the same spot after having forgotten what I was chasing him for in the first place. Equipment management is taking a while because I suddenly have so much from the increased drops since Morgrim is leveled insanely high.
I head out to the battlefield in the basin and find out from Rose's right-hand twins that they were approached for a job something something Rolance royal family something something. I legit have no idea what the hell they just said in this rapid info-dump, nor do I even have a clue what this "job" is supposed to be. Are we killing the queen? The one who's trying to seize power? Are we killing her son, the one who WOULD be the Joffrey? Like... this is all so fast and vague that I really wish I'd seen more of the internal affairs of the royal family before, along with how they intermingle with the Abbey. This is another example of the game telling things it should be showing. Dezel gets his undies in a bunch about all this, so it seems like his target is the queen. Just a coincidence that appears forced. And there's something the seraphim all knew that Sorry and Rose didn't... and Lailah says they'll explain soon. I have no idea what the hell to make of any of this but I have a very bad feeling, especially that given my levels are 50ish by now (and fights still aren't easy on Hard!), that this is the start of the total nuclear implosion. Like, if this was meant to be a plot twist, it just confused me, because this is regarding people who hadn't been relevant to the story at all so far. This information needed to be repeated.
The game does reexplain things (via Mikleo being a geek) to me at the inn in Lastonbury, but this is EXACTLY WHY I WISH WE COULD VIEW SKITS ANYWHERE. This was NOT an optional thing, and certainly not something you should have to go out of your way for. Terrible plot design and a stupid mechanic that I'm glad they realized was a terrible idea. From what seems to have happened, the two legitimate heirs of the emperor were killed in some power struggle, so the third, whose mother was the Empress's sister, took the throne. The secretary is standing against the Empress and wants her killed because she adopted this nephew as a way to stay in power or something, and he... doesn't think the late emperor would have liked it? Rose doesn't trust any of them and is most certainly trying to figure out who she needs to kill for a better Rolance. None of this makes sense, though. Why was the emperor boning his sister-in-law? Why would he have been upset that his son was in power and his widow was helping? Why did Rose just take the job without question, and not tell us anything? The game is conveniently not telling me things that ordinary people would've shared with each other by now. It doesn't feel natural.
I get back to Loegres, ready to save and quit, and Zaveid is outside waiting for me, ready to challenge me to a duel. Before I could save right outside the gate like I intended to. The devs really don't want me to enjoy this game, do they? I want to GO TO BED.
Ugh. Gonna hit the hay right after I beat this guy, however many tries it takes me.
