Secret cave is so epic and makes me feel so powerful..

The drums here remind me a lot of cool japanese math-rock/post-rock type stuff that i like that has very similar raw and echoy distant instrumentation/production. Its pretty neat. This match is pretty close!

Something i never noticed about to the distant sky until now - - the actual production feels very modern but the instrumentation is very 1987-1997, this would be an interesting anachronism if it werent explained by 2003

Caramel stories; when steve comes out to play; he wont be a little guy for you no more. He will treat you to a computer of numbers and friendship; the forest computer, all trees are like a network just like the internet. Even if it might be one of the more basic things u can do to be polymetric, i will always get a big k,ick out of things that are in-your-face groups of 5/16 in like a 1x3xx pettern on top of things that arent doing that

Whenever a jazz fusion song has a part that seems loosely like the samsung over the horizon melody;;;it makes me think this is an intentional reference, especially given what bands samsung got to do a cover of that..

This is the fft song i really regretted not nominating for the final fantasy contest (which i became aware of how excited about this track i was while in search of the imaginary hitoshi sakimoto song i had in my head that im still not confident actually exists). Im a big fan of sakimotos harmonic style, he just uses the odd sequences of notes that really hit the right buttons for me--quartals and all that kinda stuff, the stuff surrounding the 1:00 timestamp being a good example of that sorta thing (and one of my favorite sections of music in the entire final fantasy series). The excessively reverby fake orchestra sound of this/vagrant story is such a distinct feeling, i didnt really like it when i was younger but these days im a pretty big fan of the sound. Its so fucked up to have learned that hitoshi sakamotos main influence tonally is literally STAR WARS. . .. its so funny, but i guess its no different than me getting into that stuff because of hearing quartal harmony in megaman zero 4, just the old-person version of being influenced to do proggy things from hearing them in music to media

I love motoi sakuraba! Something about how even the tight chords wind up being expressed clearly even thru gritty 70s aggressive organ is really neat feeling. Ive grown to like spanish guitar more because of getting into ace combat music to a greater extent than ever before recently for sure

You kno, listening to this right after sakuraba, i just realized..this track is very mario golf toadstool tour ! it probably comes across more like that to me than it does to paper mario. Its the brass that does it but some of the other stuff in combination sells that to me too

This track actually has very little correlation with what I typically like about pso2 music..i do love proggy things like this, i always make that clear, but with pso2 my fixation is usually harmony or sound design rather than erratic rhythms. I like erratic rhythms, so Im not complaining! Its just almost like total coincidence that something i love for the reasons i love this track, is in the same game as all the songs i like for serene electronic landscapes or its really specific chord/melody-interaction style (which id consider this totally dissimilar to). This one reminds me of shnabubula especially because its so 9/16 (an odd timesig he self-admittedly overuses), also i swear that the synth effects towards the start are like the same thing as the laser beam sound effects in the parts of the Jimmy Neutron PC game with the yokians and that association is very funny to me

I always like this track more than i remember. dark funk is cool, and the mixture of swing/straight stuff on top of each other and/or alternating with each other always feels so neat

The instrumentation and emotional intensity of this track is stellar; interestingly it reminds me of yoko kanno and i associate max galactica in my head as the person who likes yoko kanno and hiroyuki sawano, until just now i never really comprehended how much it makes sense that if you like one of them that its likely youd really find a lot to see in the other too. Anyways this match is very difficult for me, VERY close. i have spent quite a while listening back and forth and still am not quite decisive!

Every time id listened to make this right until NOW; i disliked the song. This time around: Something about the weird chopped vocals in the distance..it really helped recontextualize how i felt about every other layer, and suddenly i really like the whole thing huh. Its absolutely hilarious that kcfs nom has the TRACK title of remember me instead of game title remember me this time

Frums is so overstimulating!!! I like when they can pull that off while simultaneously having ethereal chill harmonies. :43 is one of the coolest moments in any frums track it makes me float into the air WHILE i am dying by being assaulted with violent bullets that i am just barely not going to die from before i ascend to the next plane to escape from the evil people who are trying to murder me. Tbh this might be my favorite frums track after pictured as perfect (so favorite that is actually vgmc eligible)

The actual thing this xenosaga track reminds me of is wataru ishibashi actually, those particular notes on those constant 16th arpeggio loops and stuff.

Think this is one of my favorite flashygoodness tracks out of the ones i know of?

Mathematical Minimalism!!!! THAT IS SO COOL (this is one of my favorite tracks in the contest. It was just shy of winding up in my top 50 songs ever list, like usually around 60th-51st place somewhere, but sometimes it RANDOMLY jumps to like, 11th place for ONE day where i will like it even more than sanctuary-shu. Today might even be one of those days..!). Such cool sound design and cool hypnotic ancient machinery...everything about it is perfect to me, such a subtle in-between merging of gridded machine music and organic swung ancient cool funk yo man landscape. Despite them being famous and me liking this ost so much- i STILL have never heard a single snails house song that is not part of this soundtrack. Will i be disappointed? Will i find more to like? Who knows!!!

Tyrian Maze - Inner Chamber is my FAVORITE song in the pokemon series, it is just the perfect balance of all of the elements i look for in music. Both compositionally and instrumentationally. I hope it does not lose

Even though that i know that sonic music has a diverse selection of things that it has in it.;;;;it still always catches me off guard that this track is from sonic unleashed when i look at the name of what is playing.

God i feel really strongly about the matches today. Ephemeral Glory B is definitely one of my favs in the contest. Its pretty emblematic of why kimihiro abe is my favorite vgm composer...a huge focus on cool harmonies, and sometimes the interaction of those harmonies with strange melody lines that only are given a context that makes sense through these unusual harmonies..and BEAUTIFUL production. amazing similar the context of this layer changes depending on whats surrounding it with rhythms too. The ambiguity of barlines here is such a cool free feeling. One of the most influential tracks on me that i can think of. The sorts of things i improvise or write these days are often very directly influenced by the way this track WORKS. And of course i like traditional japanese instrumentation a lot..muramasa is an ost i ranked in my potential top 5 game osts in one list i made (top 4 being pso2 / sonic shuffle / opoona / coded soul [making THREE of my top 5 soundtracks with a lot of kimihiro abe music on them lol])., not sure i still have it there but it is definitely a big one for me.

Another winters always been a fav of mine that i associate with early b8, even tho i dont really listen to anamanaguchi at all other than this specific track. Its not aligned with what youd expect my tastes to be at all but for some reason it just always clicks with me. wtf this upload fades out too early

Why do i like so many songs that have the word tunnel in the name of it. The sorta polymetric synth bass at 3:00 is one of the best things and definitely a big factor in me liking this as much as i do. It makes this feel more like the intersection between edm and steve reich that is basically the THING that got me interested in music to the degree i eventually became, so i hold this very particular manifestation of edm quite close to my heart.

The one katamari song i actually like(LOVE); and i cant even vote for it ;-; now people are REALLY going to think i am a true 100% katamari music hater. But i promise, THIS katamari song, it is the one that i LOVE. A LOT it remind me of cornelius

I hate this match. But it had to do it. Anyway, i love mizuno thank you for sharing your obscure finds with us all uf8. This track has some of the best fm sound design ive ever heard, like i thought yu-no was impressive but what is THIS oh my god. Its a crime mizuno isnt recognized in the same way some of the people similar to him are. Beautiful layered effects that make this sound so much fuller than should even be imaginable. Those sweeping in synths are so fucking cool. BEAUTIFUL chords.

During noms..i realized. I think that Kirby Air Ride - City Trial ~ City is the single piece of music i have heard for the longest amount of time added up in my entire LIFE. Kirby Air Ride is definitely the video game i have spent the most hours out of my life playing besides possibly [some other games that ill be hearing a wider variety of different songs during]. But with kirby air ride, i was always doing city trial. If you add that up...i dont think any other piece of music compares to how much ive heard it. Thats pretty astounding to me, and you know WHAT; i never got bored of it, and in fact appreciate it significantly more now than i did when i first played this game because it has cool things like andos cool chords (That synth pad at 3:18 is such a MOMENT) and sounds like ace combat zero (i like ace combat music (and kirby music)). Snes limits really lend themselves well to this style, i used to not feel this way but casio mario world really got me to appreciate snes spc700 as a soundchip in a way i hadnt prior to listening

Kaze no notam music is always so cool. Ive been in an even more 90s-synths mood within 2022 than usual for myself; so this is especially pertinent to my current fixations. Oh man this is so close to doing the cumshot melody at some parts in it

I had to relisten to this match a bunch of times; i am disappointed im not able to vote for kaze no notam (but i originally typed im disappointed i cant vote for this amazing mili song so..). One of the most painful r1 matches for me. Both are pretty amazing tracks. I was originally more decisive (in favor of kaze no notam), but after listening a ton, im confident in this vote, even if i hate having to make it. Huh i juust realized the glitchy voices going like nu nu n un n n nnnnnn sound like some of the extremely crazy evergrace2 songs like The Twin Goddesses

i think literally all of these are against my favs bracket lol, abstract map has grown on me an insane amount since day 1, i porbably would've easily voted for city trial but i've listened to abstract map a lot and god it hits the exact itch that i've been crazy for the past couple of months (demoscene music and stuff that sounds like demoscene music in other sequenced formats). i actually did not like arcues phase 4 at first but uh yeah no now i do, this match is SUPER close now. match 3 is close but not in a good way

I recently learned that toby fox considers norio hanzawa a big influence on him and you know i can hear that at 1:38 here..its like the chord progression thats in every single mischief makers song(ok i know that progression is VERYT COMMON but when someone uses it who specifically says they like norio hanzawa a lot, there is something a bit more to that)
