NOMINATIONS PHASE

Nominations Rules and Guidelines

* You have a total of thirty (30) nominations which can be used either on new songs that have not been posted before, or songs already suggested by others that you like. Both cases are counted as a single "nomination".
* Of these 30 nominations, five (5) of these can be "double nominations", which counts as two regular votes but only one unique vote. Like regular nominations, these can be on a song you posted yourself, or another person's suggestion.
* Under no circumstance will you be able to use more than 30 nominations, nor more than five doubles.
* New this year: You will only be able to nominate 5 unique songs per every 24 hours after noms open until the end of the day on May 6th. All 30 nomination slots and all doubles are available for use beyond five new unique nominations so long as you are supporting an already-nominated song.
* This does mean if you hop in a few days late, you'll have up to the current limit and not just 5 unique noms available. (i.e. 15 songs if you come in on May 4th)
* After 10pm on May 6th, you can remove and add nominations and doubles as you wish until the end of the nomination period on May 10th.
* If a song you have nominated or doubled is locked (see locked section below), then you will not be able to change that vote.

Song Eligibility and Game Limits

* You may nominate at most 3 songs from the same game.
* You may nominate at most 5 songs from the same series.
* You can't nominate two versions of the same song, including remixes of the same song and alternate versions of the same song.
* You can't nominate songs that are on the retired list. (See VGMC total stats sheet listed in the first post)
* In short, a song is eligible if it plays in-game, or if it appears on the original soundtrack or material that is meant to be OST-adjacent. A dedicated document for eligibility rules with examples can be found here:

* If all else fails, just ask! The hosts will have the final say of if something is eligible, but with new changes that have come with new management even stuff that has been denied before could be eligible now.

How to Nominate

We're using a script to automatically tally votes rather than hand counting votes, so there's a bit of a format you'll have to follow so that it can actually pick up your nominations. Please use the following format:

Please, please, PLEASE avoid special characters like accented letters or symbols! The script does not like those kinds of things and they're a bit of a pain to clean up. Also don't edit posts to try and fix mistakes or add/remove stuff from your posts, just notify a host about mistakes or you can also fix them yourself with a - and + in the same post.

Locking

Locking system is back for yet another go! It has worked out wonderfully for what we want it to do, so no reason not to bring it back. Up until 10pm Eastern time on May, if a song reaches 6 nominations, it is guaranteed a spot in the bracket.

However, anyone that has nominations on that song will not be able to retract any support on that song under any circumstance. No going back, so make sure that you're completely willing to have that song take up your nomination space! Once a host confirms a lock, the lock is irreversible.

In the absolute silly circumstance that we hit a field of 256 locked songs before the lock period ends (dear god please don't make this happen), then nominations will close as soon as the 256th song is locked. If this happens in the middle of a post, chronological order will be while going down the post. Really don't think this will come close to happening, but in case we severely, SEVERELY underestimate participation then this will happen.

Hello everyone!! Sorry if you were disappointed at no actual VGMC news with our funny topic on April Fools, so allow me to make it up with the official announcement of our next contest!

VGMC 16 nominations will open on Sunday, May 1st at 10pm Eastern time!! The current plan is to have nominations open for 10 days, and end at the same time on May 11th.

Let's just get into the nitty-gritty of what's gonna be shaken up this year:

- Bracket size will remain at 256 songs!
- Nominations will remain at 30 total and 5 doubles for each person, however this year we'll be running a "staggered nomination" system. Much like how in the past for the first 24 hours of nominations we limit the amount of new songs everyone can post to 5 songs, this year we'll have it so this "only 5 new tracks per day" limit extends through each of the first six days of nominations, with the count resetting every new day. This is so we can slow the flood of new songs while still allowing people to use their full 30 slots for supporting.
- Locking will come back almost as it was last time, with 6 votes guaranteeing a song a spot in the bracket and locking each nominator into supporting that song. This time however the lock period will last for the first 9 days of nominations, leaving the last day for final nominations.
- The eligibility expansion we had last year worked out beautifully, so there are no plans to scale back on that now!

If there's any elaboration on the new changes you'd like or any issues you have with them, please let us know!! There's still plenty of time to have things tweaked in anticipation of this year's contest so don't hesitate to toss in a comment.

What is VGMC?
Video Game Music Contest (VGMC for short) is a single-elimination tournament of video game music that we run right here through GameFAQs forums. The community comes together to determine a pool of songs to populate the bracket with, and then run daily head-to-head matches to slowly determine the best of the best of the field.

The community, you say? Does that mean I can help get songs into this bracket?
Of course! This process of finding songs to use in the tournament is known as the "nominations phase", which is what is starting right now. Anyone and everyone can participate, and the more the merrier! There's a few rules and formats you'll need to follow which will be laid out in the post right below this one, but we'd more than love to see what you can bring to the table!

How exactly does the song pool get decided then?
Everyone who participated has a single song that they can "nominate", which can be either a new song or supporting another song people have posted. You have a thirteen minute nomination period that can used to post whatever song you like, and once nomination time is over, all the songs will enter a bracket where they fight to the death!!! Songs with more than one nomination will get byes depending on the amount of individual nominators.

* banshiryuu and Toxtricity are your hosts now! We have cut down from our five hosts last year down to just two!
