In the time since this school shooting, I've seen several cases in which police action prevented mass shootings before they happened. Not sure this is the best argument.

My argument is not that police never do anything good. It's that they're not required to and that's not really what they're for.

I hope this at least opens some eyes as to what police actually are and do.

Not everything is about people's personal failings. I don't think people in Paris are known for their laid back attitude and friendly spirit, and yet they don't have the same problem we have.

Maybe the reasons for that are more related to policy and infrastructure, rather than intangible attitudes?

I really wanna see the potato based version of prohibition with potato bribery and potato violence and potato millionaires/billionaires.

Relying on these people to save us is suicide. They don't understand anything about anything.

Are you watching this show waiting for something to happen or are you invested in the current plot lines? Cause I know most people are expecting it to get better down the road. But I want to know if theres people invested in the plot as it is right now.

Yes, some of us like shows about charming characters living their lives, with some superhero stuff thrown in as an extension of those themes.

Are you really mad about a character who can't drive continuing to not be able to drive? It's established that she has driven before, otherwise she wouldn't have been taking the test and presumably, she didn't make that reversing mistake every single time. If the writers don't show a character expressing a trait in the same way each and every time, is that a plothole or bad writing in your view?

How is this show not objectively boring? I mean, the characters dont even make sense. In one scene, Kamala is such a bad driver that she rams a parked car with her foot full on the gas. In another scene shes just driving her friends car around town. In one scene the mom is having a shit fit about parties and avenger-con. In another scene the mom just totally lets Kamala slide out to another party. This show is kind of terrible.

She drove terribly in that scene and the person she was driving with made fun of her for it. Then the thing with the party was okay because her responsible, also Muslim friend was going, and they were going to the party of someone the mom recognized as a childhood friend, there was no cosplay involved, and she promised to be back by a reasonable time. These aren't valid criticisms.

Homelessness is a result of the structure of the economy and cultural failings. Lots of people make "poor decisions" all over the world and yet rates of homelessness vary widely. That's not what determines whether people are left to rot without a pot to piss in.

Damn, that's basically the most popular intersection in the city. Scary. I went to this event last year during a date and it was really positive, it's sad that something like this would happen.

Basically, this is a function of the strong, unchecked misconceptions many people have based on the a mix of dumbass to semi-valid reasons. Racism, sexism, anti-Muslim sentiment, combined with ideas that the show is "not for them" or looks cheap, is too youth focused, doesn't seem important, or they're unfamiliar with the character. The most valid reason I've seen is the change to her powers, but it doesn't seem like most of the people popping off about the show were fans enough to actually care about that.

They don't need to, it automatically happens whenever a Republican wins. That's a consequence of elections that people don't really understand. Each and every single time a Republican wins the Presidency, the federal agencies that actually help people (DOJ, DOL, ED, HUD, EPA, HHS, FDA) are kneecapped and actively sabotaged for 4-8 years. Their staffing levels crater, they make irrational and harmful decisions, and then the next admin spends 3/4ths of their time in office trying to undo the damage done by the last admin.

Blockchain and crypto currency is not the same thing. Whenever people ask what the supposed benefits of crypto currency as currency are, people typically respond with hypothetical future use cases for blockchain tech, as if they are equivalent.

It's not used as a currency, it's used as a speculative investment that operates on bigger fool theory

It will not eventually become a currency because it's inherently deflationary, as it was intended and created to be, that's exactly why people use it as a speculative investment.

That's just one of the many inherent problems with its uses as a currency, not to mention problems with scaling up, transaction times, etc

You all are missing the basic points here intentionally. I like the character. However, Marvel has a history of over exposing characters before they catch on organically (like Captain Carol) then people start disliking said character and it doesnt have to be this way if we as fans point this out to them.

Personally, I feel like we will see when the sales numbers come in if these are not one shots. Being What If stories, these are likely one and done and a moot point. Hopefully they sell well.

The crypto market has all the hallmarks of something that will have documentaries about all the lives ruined and money lost in a decade.

The culture around it is what concerns me. There's a toxic positivity, a tendency to see every negative thing as somehow positive, and then to only register the positives, to view anyone urging caution as anywhere from ignorant to actively malicious, to tend toward irrational techno-optimism and conspiratorial thinking, to wrap up involvement in the market with personal identity and virtue (staying in despite all logic is being an ape/good, pulling out is weakness), to tie crypto to vaguely anti-capitalist sentiments while participating in a libertarian hypercapitalist space etc.

Seems very very icky to me.

Hinge is head and shoulders above the other apps in DC. High usage, variety in types of people seeking a variety of things, the ability to message first to stand out beyond looks, people actually intending to at least meet up, not just seeking an ego boost or using it as another form of social media. It's great.

Jon Cooper is saying that the committee said that they think the DOJ should prosecute. Doesn't mean that they actually will or that the prosecution will be successful.

I could see the Dems deciding not to prosecute in the name of "unity and healing" or to avoid riling up Republicans before the midterms. If they're so worried that a President being held accountable for crimes they committed will cause them to lose elections or suffer a coup/violence, then they should realize the country is fundamentally compromised and should have been acting accordingly all along.

Yeah, most people in Western society still believe in some vaguely monotheistic version of a creator, even if they don't believe in the biblical God. They call themselves spiritual. But specific teachings reinforced by church attendance and community standards, that's what's rapidly declining.

Organized religion is declining, but people still want to believe there's some type of rules and order to life, even in a kind of wishy washy way.

Because they're closet reactionaries. They're the modern version of the people who used to write strongly worded letters to magazines about them advocating race mixing or something like that. We just have social media now so we hear all of them every time the though crosses their mind, and we have an entire media ecosystem and political party devoted to stoking and validating these grievances.

That iMessage part might destroy many legal case that depend on texts, depending on how it's implemented.

Climate change alone makes the answer no. I always say that capitalism has been on jet boosters since the discovery of fossil fuels, and that jet boost is gonna come at the cost of approximately 1 planet.

Communism shoulders the blame for every famine, war, shortage, and killing that happens anywhere near it. I wonder if Capitalism will be blamed for destroying the planet and all the wars, shortages, famines, death, and prevention of life that will come from that over the next few generations?

The answer is nothing, unless you consider drag and LGBT stuff inherently explicit. It's not, its merely a form of entertainment that lets people express their identity. It's associated with sexualized venues only because those were the only safe places for people to express themselves.

The people bringing up strip clubs have clearly never been to a strip club. This is what you'd see on any dance night at this type of club in any major American city.

There's no nudity or sexual dancing here. At least not strip club level.

It's inappropriate (the sign specifically), but people have an itchy trigger finger with the word grooming because LGBT people are involved. Without that, people would just be saying WTF without arguing that this is the fall of western civilization.
