It's funny, the book about Sumeria I read ended with Cyrus conquering Babylon, because that was the end of their independence and beginning of their terminal decline, because the Ancient Persians wanted to rule from their own cities. My old pastor and his wife were both super religious and had doctorates in theology. He was the associate pastor at my church (the lead guy was much older but also smart and really funny and chill). Now he and his wife run the place, and the sign has both a Pride and Trans Pride flag. Even back in the aughts, there when there was a local controversy over another local church kicking out a lesbian couple, the church put out an ad on local TV emphasizing everyone was welcome, featuring a gay couple kissing in front of the church and then being welcomed in by the greeter, back when this shit was still controversial.

So I've seen Christianity at its best and it can be beautiful, even though I'm not terribly religious myself. It's a shame it's so often not.

I'm honestly not well enough versed in philosophy to really have an opinion, though I did enjoy Candide and Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
Haven't read Hegel, but will never forget that Marx said he only makes sense if you turn him upside down, because it's just an objectively silly line. I read a Marx biography, but have yet to actually read Marx.

How long have the Whalers been gone now? And, objectively, Hartford is a pretty small market on the edge of Boston's own, much bigger market, and the closest other largish city in the state is Waterbury.
New Haven, Bridgeport, and Fairfield are like an hour away, and Stamford is even further. All of which are firmly in New York City's media market. In a perfect world, sure, but in a capitalist system it just will never work.

Oh, absolutely! I like to say prog is the tits, and it is, but it absolutely helps a ton with mood stability for most girls.

Movies are a hard one for me: I didnt go to the theater much before the pandemic and have no desire to go back aside from being cautious, my GF is immunocompromised. And I like seeing her and her being alive, so Im extra careful.
But definitely Logan.

The first movie I saw in theaters? Probably The Beauty and the Beast. If I went to anything before that, I dont remember it.

Anticipated release? Nothing for 2023, because the scuttlebutt is that Victoria 3 is coming out in November of this year. I honestly dont pay anywhere near as much attention to this kind of thing as I used to, even though I still game.

Yeah, I started on 100mg. I was on that for three months, then I was bumped up to 200mg. Though someone screwed up putting into the system, so I had a gap where I didnt have prog and that was *completely terrible*.

I just finished Transgender History: The Roots of Todays Revolution by Susan Stryker. Its a really well-written, well-researched primer on the history of transness and the trans rights movement in the U.S. She also does an excellent job of emphasizing how multiracial its always been, as well.

Its a great read if youre at all interested in the subject matter. It covers up through the early days of the Trump administration. Im just really curious about these things, especially in the darkness of the present moment.

I realize this is a joke, but that's just what Connecticut calls its Medicaid program (I'm poor as shit). Even though everything beyond HRT is gatekeeping hell in excess of WPATH standards, and WPATH doesn't even consult trans people about our care LOL , it's one of the best Medicaid programs for transition care. Or just in general, really: I haven't paid for anything out-of-pocket. It's pretty great, I feel like this is how it should be.

Well, lots of unpacking of what that means and all the innumerable ways it's fucked with your head. The first few months of therapy were really fucking brutal. At some point, my therapist gave me a brochure for an LGBTQ+-focused clinic in my area, and after a while, I scheduled a consult for HRT. From starting therapy to starting HRT was about 4 months, but you don't need to be seeing a therapist at all to get HRT if you go to an informed consent clinic (which mine is). If you want to get HRT, you can just schedule with an informed consent clinic (Planned Parenthood practices informed consent, IIRC).

Basically, how that works is that they sit you down with a doctor who goes through an exhaustive accounting of all the things HRT will do* to your body and then asks if that sounds good. Then mine asked if I wanted to get a prescription then or think about it and maybe come back in a month or two. I, of course, opted for the former. Practically cut her off LOL.
*Doctors, especially ones who don't have much experience with trans people, can often be ill-informed or misinformed as to how extensive the effects are. Mine has had hundreds if not thousands of trans patients and at least one of the people who work there is a trans woman (she walked me through my first estrogen injection): she gave an excellent accounting.

1) Ewww, noooooo. I didn't like jarred tomato sauce even as a kid, since making it from scratch is a big part of my family's culinary tradition yes, I have a lot of Italian heritage, duh.

2) My girlfriend is a coffee drinker. She buys and makes good coffee, and she'll even make me some if I ask nicely. She made me some yesterday, actually: being apart from her was really rough emotionally, so I haven't been sleeping well, so the pick-me-up was appreciated and helped keep me focused, especially with all the deep conversation we had!

3) Oh damn. Those are both really nice combos, but I think I'm more purple and red than pink or black. The girlfriend still waxes poetic over the lavender get-up I wore when she met (some) of my family.

1) Nope, she's a cis lesbian. Soft butch. Also she told me she thinks it's super hot I don't tuck, which is funny, because I mostly don't tuck out of apathy.

2) I'm a football fan. Specifically, a Bills fan. Gabe Davis scored that TD with 13 seconds remaining and I was amped, but nonetheless felt a deep sense of foreboding.
The Bills Billsed it all up, as is now (in)famous reality.

3) My Latin teacher in high school showed us Monty Python's Holy Grail in class, which I found pretty funny back then. He also showed a few other clips that were pretty entertaining, but I've never really watched it beyond those instances.

Which fire emblem is your favorite?

I think it's between Blazing Blade and Path of Radiance, for me. And it's really close, too!

Well, not anything, please be polite. I think the highlight from last month's edition was being told that being trans is my entire personality, so definitely don't bother asking me about hobbies, interests, shows, music, etc. You may also ask my advice on your problems. Some people are under the impression I give good advice, even! I don't believe them.
A few highlights from life:

-I am undertaking the arduous process of getting Husky to approve me for laser hair removal for my face I could probably still grow a better beard and mustache combo than many CEmen, it would just take a long time. I'm also working on getting my legal name changed: that's easier, at least.

-I had a falling out with my girlfriend that has since been repaired. We had a very lengthy and detailed conversation on the topic yesterday (face-to-face), which was uncomfortable at times for the both of us, but it was very productive and very healing. She let slip that she sees this as a long-term thing, which I have for a while, but I hadn't been sure we were on the same page because she's been weird about labels.

-I've successfully registered for a Masters-level Social Work class as a non-matriculating/visiting student! My grades in undergrad weren't great, but I've had great success academically since and I am eager to demonstrate I can crush it at this level.

The only other medium that I've seen even touch on how he became Batman was TAS, which has him studying martial arts in Japan for years and also apprenticing with a master magician, both things it touches on briefly.

Its important to note the difference isnt just in the aftermath, but before too: Black families tend to have way less wealth and resources than white families, so your average Black student is going to need more outside help (including loans) to pay for college.

And, of course, career prospects for Black people without college degrees are several orders of magnitude more dire than the prospects of a white person without one. (And the latters prospects already arent great, barring being able to break into a trade. Whichyou guessed it! Is generally easier if youre white and male).
