Bulbasaur might be my favorite Pokmon who had a reasonable chance to win this so pretty good winner. I have no complaints.

Mia is a major character but I would certainly not associate her with humor in the least.

I just think because the notes don't enable you to get a 100% on the game in and of themselves like an open book does on a test that it's not really the same.

Actually doing the thing is analogous to memorizing the answers here.

It's basically because open notes for a test is inherently more useful than open guide on a game, pretty much.

I don't really find reset scumming to be comparable to savestates in general.

My thought was Gumshoe but went with The Judge out of these choices. I think the answer is probably The Judge over Gumshoe, but Gumshoe and Godot not being here is a little strange I think.

The real vote is Viola Cadaverini though. Her creepy stuff was a riot for me even though there isn't much of it.

Like on the extreme end I used a guide on Guilty Gear XX Mission Mode to give me ideas to try and beat the missions.

I guarantee you it is not at all comparable to an open book test. Some missions took me hundreds of tries even with the guide. Because actually executing matters.

I know you're more of an RPG guy too but RPGs there are plenty of battles where a guide is not just going to win it for you.

Like something that has very little in the way of gameplay like Ace Attorney using a guide for that is like an open book test

Even stuff like RPGs though reading how to beat a boss might help but it's not going to always have you reach the solution like an open book test

And obviously more action based games it helps even less

Eh not really.

There's a lot more to playing a game than knowing what to do. Execution is important, and a guide generally won't remove that requirement

Things I'm elitist about:
Gold Mode DMC3:SE
Fire Emblem in Casual on difficulties lower than Lunatic (the game simply isn't designed for you to be able to cannon fodder all your units into the enemy, the enemies are very seldom able to sweep your team-- Lunatic is wacky enough that it's fair game though imo)
Restarting in roguelikes
Playing on easy mode on a game known for high difficulty

Things I'm not elitist about:
Passwords (though it's usually "why are you skipping parts of the game")
In game codes (kinda depends on the code but in general they're fair game)
Guides (basically studying for a test, it's fine)
Restarting in Fire Emblem when you lose units (non-discerning people will wonder how this is different than casual-- the difference is Fire Emblem is designed for losing units to have weight so "losing the level" when you lose a unit is fine-- though I do quite like no restart runs!)
Infinite continues on arcade ports (this is just simulating having a bunch of quarters)
Spending on Gacha games (makes em easier sure but so does being f2p with good luck)
Playing on easy mode on like 95%+ of games

Things I shouldn't be considered elitist about because it's objectively modifying the gameplay experience:
Savestates - small exceptions here if used very sparingly, for instance if like someone was playing Kingdom Hearts on an Emulator and didn't want to view a dumb cutscene before a battle they were losing at over and over no problem.
Game Genie/Gameshark - small exceptions here for "silly" codes. I gamesharked my Caterpie Flamethrower and Ice Beam just for fun and man he still sucked.

So I actually like the idea of using savestates in battletoads to practice the game. I actually did that myself and it let me get further in the game. Like battletoads is really awful because the first two stages, and the third stage up to the speeder bikes, they are all super easy but need to be redone every time. It's an annoying time sink.

But if you can't string together a run through it without savestates then you didn't beat it. Straight up. And I question why you did it to begin with-- its not like battletoads has some great story.

(For the record I've never beat battletoads and no longer have any desire to. Have gotten pretty far though.)

To be clear I AM an elitist at some level (mostly a very passive elitist though-- if someone wants to play DMC3 SE on gold mode I'll just say they should try Yellow instead, I won't say they didn't beat the game on gold) I just don't think my feeling on savestates is a thing that makes me more elitist.

And no Wii tossing savestates into the game isn't any better than your emulator doing it. It's just one is company branded-- it still exists outside the boundaries of the game as designed.

To be clear I don't care if someone beats the game with savestates.

I'm just saying they objectively speaking didn't really beat the game. It's cool to do that if you just want to experience the game though. Beating some games is hard.

Just like it's okay to watch a let's play to experience the game. But no one that isn't LMS would say someone watching a let's play is beating the game either.

It's kinda like, maybe you need to look at it the other way-- do I really care if someone doesn't think I beat the game enough that I have to brand them as an elitist to cope? Or are they just being reasonable?

Your teacher is literally there to gatekeep you from passing the class if you cheat and they catch you.

Like the better hill to die on is whether using passwords/cheat codes given in the game is beating the game.

Did you beat Contra if you konami'd 30 lives?
Did you beat Mega Man 2 if you passworded to the end and only beat the wily stages.

I would say in those cases saying someone didnt beat the game while using those is probably elitist (though with the Mega Man example I'd be like "but why though"). But game genie or savestates? Shouldn't be elitist. I don't think it's a healthy mindset to think that's elitist it feels more like a defense mechanism at that point. Calling someone an elitist in some ways is a way to invalidate their criticism. If the so called elitist is objectively RIGHT is it actually elitism or just reality?

I mean it's not a matter of "the right way" it's using something that doesn't exist in the game to change the way the game is played to make it artificially easy.

I think if you're not using tools the game gave you to beat the game and are using cheats or savestates from an external factor, then you're not really beating the game. I don't think this is elitist.

It's like saying your teacher is elitist for catching you copying your friend's answers on a test and calling you a cheater rather than someone who successfully completed your test.

Is it really elitism to say someone didn't really beat a game if they used Savestates. That just sounds correct. Like I certainly don't consider someone jamming a game genie into the game and putting in an invincibility code beating the game and I'm not sure why save states are much better than that.

I'd see elitism as more like "you didn't beat SMB1 if you used Warp Zones" or "you didn't beat Mega Man 2 if you didn't play on Difficult"

I'm actually fine with a ton of grinding and whatnot to max out a servant. I didn't like how easy ("easy") they were to cap. As for Artoria that's pretty much a null thing on my decision either way. Considering I use mostly 1-3* servants because I like them and don't have a particular fondness for her, yeah it's whatever. I mean it's a single player game so I don't care if everyone else goes for her, just that ai wouldn't.

I dunno. I'll ponder on it. It's a very grindy game I'm not sure I have that time these days.

Not into Octopath. I do own it I should probably play it huh.

Does F/GO have more tools to make Kojirou stronger than level 100 and 2000 stat boosts yet.

That's interesting about the water Bahamut. Water is my strongest team so I may go for him because why not.

I'd start over with JP it would be pretty fun getting all the story mythril and such with fully powercrept banners but yeah risk of it sinking in short order would be too much for me.

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition Gold Mode kinda bugs me. The game is supposed to be difficult. We don't need resurrection stones.

Luckily you can turn it off so it only annoys me slightly.

Tribute at the end made me super sad.

I hope he doesn't dive too deep into wii shovelware. I like older stuff better. Episode was fine but wouldn't want it to be the norm.

That being said I didn't think the game was bad at all. The high end content was fun-- yes I didn't bother with most of it but when I did it was fun.

But I also have spent like $30 on gems this year when I used to spend much more so I imagine a lot of people were in that same boat

Well we had a good run. Need to find something else to dump money into as a treat once in a while. Not going to bother with jp because I doubt it lasts that much longer either at this rate.

Made Zack and Aeris considerably better characters. End sequence is great. The ridiculous cutscenes are fun on the whole. Genesis is a top tier villain and I don't care what anyone says. Only held back because like, while I can tell you it has good moments and characters and can remember them clearly, the actual overarching plot? Who knows what's going on there-- I'm not saying it's incoherent but how stuff leads into other stuff is pretty unmemorable.

I also thought the gameplay (doesn't factor into the rating obviously) was pretty enjoyable honestly. It's definitely worth playing.

That Doom Zelda thing looks amazing and I may have to seek it out
