Here are some sample contract offers that I will accept, including to more simple approaches:
4 / $10.00 mil / $3.00 mil
3 years default + $2 mil total salary + $500k signing bonus
2 years default

The default length wasn't 6 years, just that I was going to accept his default 6 year asking price

43. Beat a game based on licensed stories/characters
Batman: The Enemy Within

I think someone messed up the work someone put in to make the tally sheet automatically update because now my name is missing from that list when I was listed and being tracked maybe a week ago, and I get a warning sign that I could mess the script up when I try to manually add myself.

Batman: The Enemy Within (XB1)

Not that I'm a Batman expert or anything since I've never read any of the comics, but I'm been impressed with some of their creative uses of the license in the two games.

Which is why I was asking. Thanks.

Do you have the requested offers for guards in the 83-87 range, and would those fall under my cap?

Any G 87 and under has a year one cap hit that would fit under your cap space. Mike Iupati (87, 30 years old) is asking for 3 / $20.61 mil / $4.17 mil.

An 83 like Carl Nicks (32) wants 3 / $13.47 mil / $2.67 mil

The easiest way to know is that dividing total salary by years will give you the average annual value (AAV). Love and Turner have AAVs of more than $8 mil, so while year one will always fall below the AAV due to ascending cap hits, you would almost certainly not get them with a $6.3 mil cap hit and will have to go off the board at G unless you want Nelson to start and can easily sign a cheaper player like Jacobs or again, someone off the board.

Free Agency

See all those players in the free agent sheet? Now is the time to attempt to sign them to your team ahead of the preseason. I say attempt because you are in theory competing against the other 31 teams for the services of all available free agents.

Unlike the three offseason events involving signings, the base/desired deal that I will eventually list may not be enough to sign them, and more likely will not if it is one of the premier free agents available. If you do intend to seek out one or more of those players, you will probably want to send out a custom offer in excess of what they want, whether that means years, total money, signing bonus, or what's usually the case, a combination of the three.

You may not offer a contract to a player that goes beyond their age 34 season unless the base deal already extends beyond that.If a free agent is 31 right now and wants a two-year contract, you may go as far as four years because that would take him through his age-34 season (31, 32, 33, 34). If another free agent is also 31 and wants a five-year contract, you can offer him those five years but no more than that. Any player 28 and under is not affected by this rule as the max contract length, seven years, will take them through their age-34 season or younger.

Not every free agent is up on the sheet. I would estimate that somewhere 10-20% of all free agents are there. The free agent sheet just lists the Top 9 and Bottom 1 at each position. If there's a certain kind of player that you are looking for that either isn't or don't know if they are on the sheet, feel free to ask me, and I will get back to you if such a player fits that description.

There will be three periods of free agency, each subsequent period spanning fewer real life days than the previous one. Here are the tentative real life days each period will last:
1st - 7 days
2nd - 4 days
3rd - 1 day

Here are some sample contract offers that I will accept, including to more simple approaches:
4 / $10.00 mil / $3.00 mil
3 years default + $2 mil total salary + $500k signing bonus
2 years default

When you give me an offer, you are offering my consent to offer the player the closest deal that he will consider, meaning that if you offer 4 / $10.00 mil / $3.00 mil and he will only consider it when it is 4 / $11.00 mil / $3.40 mil, I will offer him the latter. If that does not sit well with you, then you have the simpler options I previously laid out or you can explicitly say not to offer the contract unless he will consider those exact terms.

When you PM me the offers, I want you to include a header that says "[Your Team]'s Offers" so that I don't accidentally open them. In addition to being the commissioner, I am also in charge of the Orcas, so there could be some conflict of interest. Thus, the best way around that is for me to not open those PMs until the deadline for the current phase has passed. I have default PM settings, so you can tell if and when I open a PM of yours. Out of fairness, I will publicly reveal my offers once the deadline has passed and before I open up any PMs.

Under no circumstances may you ask me if so and so player will consider a certain deal or anything of that nature. You may ask me general questions regarding free agency but nothing that goes against the spirit of it or give you a competitive advantage. If you do have a question and use the PM system instead of the topic or Discord, make sure that you are clear that you are asking a question, or I might not open it out of fear the PM will contain contract offers. There is at least one user that violates that sends me a PM that has no indication of containing offers but lo and behold, it does. Please make our 16th season the first where I don't run into that problem.

There are two types of contract offers that I will immediately discard:
1. Any mentioning of the word maximum pertaining to total salary and/or signing bonus
2. A massive one year contract (possibly two-year contracts depending on the situation)

The first one I have actually received in the past. I threw it out because it is both unfair in the laziest of ways and also impossible as you can go quite high in total salary, and I do not want to spend 30 minutes inputting a single offer.

The second one is also unfair to teams with lots of cap space to maintain artificial flexibility for future seasons by using up a lot of cap space this season and then sign that same player next season to an uncontested market or below-market contract in the following offseason in a process they can repeat as many times as they can/want.

Also due to fairness, any cuts you wish to make during free agency must be done well ahead of time to give other users enough of a chance to make a bid on their services:
- 96 hours prior to the end of Period 1
- 48 hours prior to the end of Period 2
- No cuts allowed in Period 3

Most users should have been told when they signed their rookies in the spreadsheet, Discord, or via PM of their cap space and roster holes entering free agency. If I did not, feel free to consult the roster sheet and compare with the roster requirements listed in the first column or ask me what your holes are. Should free agency end with there still being holes on your roster, the AI will fill those holes for you. You do not have to be under the salary cap at the end of free agency. I will give users several days after free agency ends to do so.

One big thing that I want to add is that many positions are very sensitive to starting status relative to their rating. QBs, HBs, FSs, CBs, and several other positions have expectations to start when they are around 82 or above. If you desire to sign someone at 82+ and are not expecting them to start for you, I highly urge you to offer them a contract no longer than 2 years in length. It is possible that they might demand a trade after just one season, but attempting to sign them to a 1 or 2 year deal will significantly reduce the financial penalty you would be dealt with if having to move on from them while they are still under contract.

Hidden Through Time (PC)

Great game! I was a fan of Where's Waldo when I was a kid, and I still have some books and a card game. I was a big fan of Hidden Folks, and I had been playing on buying this for a few years now, but I was gifted it during our Steam Secret Santa. It isn't as richly detailed as Hidden Folks nor as interactive or have the amusing sound effects, but the use of colors and more useful hints help bridge the gap.

I purposely held off finishing the last level so I could do so on my birthday. I still have all DLC packs to go through, and if the first one is of any indication, there's way more levels than I would have thought. I will continue going through them along with some player-made maps.

Mythic Ocean (XB1)

Kind of weird and neat exploration/adventure game where you talk to gods and wild life before, based on your conversations/intervention, one of the gods creates a new world and you see what unfolds. I successfully chose one god over the others only for things to not work out for reasons why I didn't choose some of the other gods. I wonder if I can resume that before making a choice because I would very much like to see what the other gods would have done.

Favorite Three Draft Classes

Cincinnati Bengals
LE DeForest Buckner (6th)
ROLB B.J. Goodson (70th)
CB Ryan Smith (76th)
FS Shalom Luani (102nd)
TE Hayden Hurst (134th)
MLB Quincy Gamble (166th)

The Bengals lacked a 2nd round pick, and they focused almost exclusively on defense, but I liked this one probably a lot more than I should. Goodson, Luani, and Hurst will be the backups to some aging veterans, with Goodson potentially stealing a starting job this season. Smith might compete for a starting job or at least the slot corner, and Buckner will probably be the instant star on the DL. Gamble might not even win the #2 MLB job, but if he does, backup MLBs do get plenty of playing time, and some of the best MLBs right now started out as Day 3 backups before succeeding to a starting job years later, so I wouldn't put it past Gamble to do so. None of this probably jumps out as a top three draft class (since I am ordering this based on city name, I should point out they were #3), but while offense was a bigger issue last season, I'm assuming they will take care of things like QB and C with a deep free agent class. It's easier to buy an offense than it is a defense, so to basically focus on restocking an aging defense was the ideal route to take. The AFC North isn't a murderer's row of offenses, so they could see an immediate impact, and if their free agency choices turn out to be good ones, the Bengals might be a sneaky playoff contender.

Green Bay Packers
HB Austin Ekeler (4th)
FS Chuck Clark (11th)
C Garrett Bradbury (43rd)
SS Andrew Wingard (68th)
HB David Cobb (75th)
TE Dallas Goedert (91st)
RT Dan Nichols (100th)
K Daniel Carlson (107th)
FS Ron Reed (139th)
QB Seth Hill (155th)

Full disclosure: Tange and I discussed at length the general direction of their draft, but this was basically me using my discretion, so I am patting myself on the back more or less.

The Packers were armed with seven Top 100 picks and with their 10 overall selections, they basically accomplished everything they set out to do coming into the draft. Whether they sign a vet to compete or backup Ekeler for the remaining HB hole, they got their long-term answer HB and a decent #3 or potentially #2 guy, a pair of rookie FSs to be placed in a great secondary, two OL to be placed along a great, veteran group with one possibly competing for a starting job, a backup SS who could eventually become the starter at a point where it's an even better secondary, a TE who could compete for Greg Olsen's vacant job, a K who will obviously be their new starter, and a QB who is a decent fit for an offense built around Tyrod Taylor and could be a dark horse long-term #2 there or around the league. Normally saying that a team drafted potentially five Day 1 starters is a terrible thing, but given the team's structure, most would be placed in a position to succeed. This could be a draft class to look back on down the road.

Miami Dolphins
LE Yannick Ngakoue (16th)
DT Javon Hargrave (31st)
MLB Jordan Hicks (38th)
LE Ronald Blair (48th)
RT Ryan Alexander (63rd)
FS Malik Hooker (80th)
RG Tony Immelman (95th)
CB Wade Oldham (113th)
K Kaare Vedvik (127th)
HB Sylvester Largent (159th)
WR Jake Crosby (191st)
C Cortez Powell (223rd)

By sheer volume, with seven being Top 100 picks, and a surprising amount of open spots for playing time due to retirements, RFA pilferings, and UFA decisions, the Dolphins, like the Packers, are probably going to have an immediate high impact rookie class. While all eyes will be on Ngakoue given he will likely be the only non-K starter their first season, Hicks, Alexander, Immelman, Oldham, Largent, and Crosby are all Day 2 or 3 backups, some deeper than others, to keep an eye on due to the contract status of those in front of them. It's very possible none of these ever become stars on the Dolphins, but the vast majority will get an opportunity to show their mettle and probably serve as an audition for other teams.

Indianapolis Colts
New York Giants

Seventh Round

Browns C Daunte Edwards (197th overall)
Jets MLB Aaron Radetsky (206th overall)
- Both of these will be the #2 behind fringe starters with uncertain futures. They could get injury starts this season, which is more than what most 7th rounders will have going for them. More importantly, that potential exposure could give their clubs enough to want to sign them to a second contract.

Cowboys FS Ryan Walker (217th overall) - With Keenan Clayton's retirement, the current starter is Shelton Kelly who was taken with the second-to-last pick of the S10 draft. Walker will obviously not compete for the starter this season or probably ever, but it does show that the Cowboys, though the beginning of Kelly's career was in Wiz' era, were willing to sign him to multiple contracts, so Walker might be as lucky as Kelly, though probably not ending with him succeeding to the starting role.

Honorable Mention:
49ers MLB Barry Stradling (222nd overall)

Sixth Round

Falcons WR Shelton Ellis (164th overall) - It is without question the Patrick Mahomes show in Atlanta, and he has a 34 year old WR and two others with expiring contracts. Ellis will get his #4 WR targets to start, but if signed to a second contract, could we be looking at a career slot receiver? That sounds like an insult, but really it is a dream come true for the fictional football players taken late in the draft.

Seahawks CB Jason Perez (176th overall) - Who knows what the Seahawks will do in free agency, but unless they add a sixth CB, Perez could wind up with a rating that will allow him to compete for the slot corner job. Now the Seahawks don't have an elite defense or anything, but they do employ two established members of the secondary, including FS Byron Jones who is one of the best at his position. Most Day 3 CBs are basically one and done in the league, but at least Perez could be in a position to defy the odds.

Rams SS R.J. Schwartz (183rd overall) - Four seasons ago, they took a SS two spots earlier who wound up averaging roughly 2 sacks, 2 INTs, and 2 FFs+FRs a season as a backup and is now the top-rated free agent SS. Schwartz will be backing the same SS on a defense with a lot of the same faces, so they could very well catch lightning in a bottle twice.

Honorable Mention:
Dolphins WR Jake Crosby (191st overall)

Fifth Round

Colts G Bryan Coleman (136th overall) - The Colts spent a 6th on a G last season, and despite the offensive turmoil on the team, he performed rather well (10 blocks, 2 sacks) for a player of his caliber. He was signed to a second contract in the offseason. Other than that, the only G on the roster is Vadal Alexander playing on his RFA tender who has 4 blocks against 2 sacks in his career. Needless to say, the G situation with the Colts is pretty wide open. I suspect that 1st round OT Braden Smith will start at some G spot and Alexander will keep his job, but in terms of backup rotations and surprise future starters, I don't know, maybe Coleman has a better chance than one would think.

Jets DT Orlando Lawton (142nd overall) - The Jets have a long history of developing DTs and often seeing them become starters or rotational mainstays on other clubs. Currently, they have a 35 year old Charles Alexander and Nick Fairly who unfortunately hasn't really panned out. If Lawton ends up getting a second contract from them and develops fairly well in the rotation, he could succeed Alexander or push
Fairly out of his starting job. However unlikely it is, there is a viable path for Lawton to become the team's #1 DT in three seasons or so.

Broncos OLB Billy Beck (157th overall) - The Broncos have one OLB fairly entrenched, but the spot formerly occupied by Lawrence Timmons is open. Matt Milano is the current favorite with his rating, but he is still 79, and he is playing under his RFA tender. While the likelier scenario is that he develops to where the Broncos re-sign him or they sign/draft a replacement this or next season, current OLB starter was a 3rd rounder, and the man who Jenkins replaced, Patrick Willis was a 6th or 7th rounder. The Broncos do have a bit of a successful history of drafting Day 2 or 3 OLBs who eventually start for them, so Beck could be another in that line.

Fourth Round

Panthers SS Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (97th overall) - Carolina has sneakily been a great destination for backup SSs over the past several seasons with former Top 5 pick Japhus Brown having some of his best seasons there and most recent Joe Goosby. Of course the difference there is that they already played many seasons in the league while CGJ is just starting. He also has the added bonus of potentially succeeding incumbent Jamar Adams, who will likely hang it up after the season.

Dolphins CB Wade Oldham (113th overall)
Wildcats CB Ryan Peterson (114th overall)
- Both of these corners are heading to places with good defenses, and in the case of Oldham, the league's top pass D for multiple seasons running. Oldham has a chance to compete for the slot corner job, a role that has netted several past Dolphins Pro Bowl honors while Peterson could compete for a starting job opposite S15 Pro Bowler Ronald Darby. After a lengthy period where CBs where dying at an alarming rate, the position has been making a comeback lately, so it's still at the point to where mid-to-upper 70s can get you a starting or slot role, but players around the league are succeeding and developing in such a situation that didn't seem possible at one point.

Honorable Mention
Cowboys HB Matt Breida (121st overall)

Third Round

Packers SS Andrew Wingard (68th overall) - Assuming that incumbent Kenny Phillips has another two seasons in him, Wingard could become a starter on a stout defense and a great secondary that currently includes a trio of 80+ Pro Bowl CBs and #11 overall pick FS Chuck Clark with two seasons under his belt. That's a pretty excellent situation for a Day 2 pick to be drafted in if I do say so myself.

Bengals OLB B.J. Goodson (70th overall) - In what has turned out to be a very strong S13 OLB draft, Matthew Judon might be the best of them all, and former #1 overall pick MLB Kiko Alonso has had a resurgence of sorts the past few seasons. Should Goodson's rating trigger a preseason battle with Mason foster and win it, he could play alongside those and behind a DL that has put significant resources this season to improve it. He might be someone to look out for in the future and as a dark horse Def RotY candidate.

Lions QB Dwayne Haskins (81st overall) - After having Peyton Manning for many seasons, the post-Manning starting QBs have been pretty underwhelming despite two of them being 1st round picks. Incumbent Jared Goff still has three years left on his contract, but the fact that the Lions used a Day 2 pick on a QB for the first time in the 15 drafts with the same person in charge, that has to indicate that Goff might be on a short leash. Now the Lions offense is in a bit of a flux/transition period, so it isn't as if Haskins as a backup is at the ideal destination, but its rare to find QBs taken on Day 2 or 3 that eventually start a game for non-injury reasons, and I feel Haskins has the best shot out of anyone taken this draft.

Honorable Mention:
Eagles WR Rashard Higgins (86th overall)

Second Round

Patriots OLB Deion Jones (39th overall) - I wanted the Pats to go OLB at #7, and I considered Jones as early as the middle of the 1st round for teams, so to get him in the 2nd round I think was one of the best draft picks anyone made this season. They went heavy on defense in the draft, so I'm curious to see if they will bounce back defensively this season.

Colts HB Jamaal Williams (40th overall) - I hate to keep regurgitating things I said in my KCF-only draft doc, but I wanted the Colts to get a HB as a wait-and-see option behind Duke Johnson in his contract year. Well, they managed to get 1st round talent in the 2nd, so with the #32 offense taking three offensive players within the first 40 picks, so have done well to rectify the situation.

Giants DE Carl Nassib (42nd overall) - Like the Pats and Colts, the Giants got good value with their picks in the first and second round. I considered going DE for them at #10, and they got one who could could have gone in the first at #42. The DL is in a bit of flux as DE Loren Howard and DT Rob Armstrong's careers are winding down while DE Khalil Mack and DT Ra'Shede Hademan are ascending, but Nassib will be likely backing up a generally strong front seven before potentially taking over for Howard, but I wouldn't put it past him to win the starting job in the preseason, should Eddv accept that outcome.

Honorable Mention
Jaguars DT Sheldon Rankins (52nd overall)

Regret Pick - Chiefs selecting C Patrick Mekari over DTs Danny Shelton/Sheldon Rankins, or CB/QB/BPA

The Chiefs haven't made the playoff since S2 and are coming off of their first winning season since S5. As they should in such a situation, they displayed flexibility when they grabbed WR Michael Thomas with their second first rounder when he, or even the position, wasn't among what they sent to me in a draft strategy. Why then would they forcefeed getting a Day 2-projected backup C in the 2nd? I suspect that they panicked when C Bradbury was selected just before them, but there were numerous high-impact positions, in general or based on Chiefs roster construction, expected to be drafted in the 2nd or the same round as Mekari. This isn't to say that Mekari won't turn out to be a decent career backup, or possibly even a starter at some point, but as a team that has to compete in a division with the Raiders, Express, and Broncos, they can't afford to draft with the idealogy that you merely fill holes as the Mekari selection suggested to me.

KCF's Favorite Picks

I'm going to go through each round of the NFL Draft and highlight my three favorite picks and explain why. For the most part, I look in the early rounds for perfect team fits based on historical production, a visible succession plan to a starting job (or immediate starter), players who might be the missing piece to the puzzle, and selections that just make me think, "That guy's going to have a long, productive career somewhere." For the later rounds, I look for players who most likely have a chance of sticking around for a long-ish career for a myriad of reasons. While I do know some of the rookie ratings due to user signings, ratings were not a factor in my analysis nor were players dropping further than expected draft slot.

In addition, I will probably list an honorable mention or two and most importantly, a regret pick. What I mean by a regret pick is someone that I believe may have just made a mistake and went in the wrong direction. I will limit myself to just one per round and only for the first three rounds because honestly how much can you really regret in the sixth round?

I will try and limit picks that I made myself, but there might be a few. I will refrain from choosing any Orcas picks. At the end of all this, I will also mention my three favorite team draft classes.

First Round

Browns OT Ronnie Stanley (5th overall) - Former RT Anthony Collins was a former Wildcats castoff who as a 43rd overall pick was so much of a disaster as a spot-starter that he must not have been tendered in RFA or released sooner after. He signed with the Browns where he started off pretty rocky but by the end of it, he was a very good or even great starter for them. With him gone, the Browns needed to get a proper replacement given the rest of their non-Clady OL were pretty green or coming off of a near career-worst season. There might not be a position with as good of a track record as first round OTs in the draft, so on an offense with a pair of superstars in HB Mark Ingram and WR DeAndre Hopkins, the Browns offense could rebound in a big way, especially in a division where there's the Ravens and things are murky after that.

Giants OLB Anthony Hitchens (10th overall) - MLB Eric Kendricks ran away with the Def Rookie of the Year award last season, and Hitchens could very well make it back-to-back winners. In the early years, the Giants on defense were more known for their DL, then their secondary, and now it might be defined by their LBs with Kendricks and now OLB Barkavious Mingo who has heated up in his late 20s. The once vaunted NFC East now has plenty of uncertainty, but if Hitchens becomes an immediate hit, the defense could perform at a level to get them quickly into playoff consideration.

Vikings WR Robby Anderson (32nd overall) - Despite me pointing out QB Josh Portis' passer ratings in recent seasons in my KCF-only draft, he isn't like a Tyrod Taylor and can actually be a prolific passer, albeit inefficient as of late. The retired Cameron Colvin was testament to that, and someone has to fill his void. WR Quan Cosby is 83, so depending on his rating, Anderson could immediately compete and win the #1 job on a very good offense on a team that has won two of the past three Super Bowls. Of the four WRs taken in the first, he seems like the best bet to have the greatest career of them all.

Honorable Mention
Ravens G Quenton Nelson (26th overall)

Regret Pick - Titans selecting HB Ronald Jones II over OT Hala Vaitai or DE Carl Nassib

The Titans did the exact thing that I mentioned I wouldn't do in my KCF-only draft. As things stand right now, their top four offensive skill position starters will include basically three rookies and WR Mike Evans. Had the exception been a QB or HB, that could have been palatable, but sadly that is not the case. You definitely want to stagger drafting in that manner over the course of like 4-5 seasons and not the two that Titans did in getting QB Flewelling, WR Shepard, and HB Jones. I'm going to single out the one that I think will have the more damaging effect this season in Jones. Former starter Melvin Gordon was not a good HB, but you can't say he didn't produce. Low-rated HBs tend to always have efficiency issues, which is why it generally takes many seasons for a young HB to get to a consistent and acceptable level.

Starting Jones, or even Wendall Smallwood, is just wasting the final years of OTs Phil Trautwein and Mike Jones, meaning if and when Jones finally performs as starter-worthy level, they will already have to rebuild the OL, without even considering where the passing attack is at on its rebuild. This just has disaster all over it, like the Titans could easily go from first to worst, but it is the most fixable as there's so many good HBs on the free agent market, and the Titans do have $3 mil to spend on part of one.

To Do:
- Do favorite draft picks in each round + favorite team classes
- Get around to adding in contract signings from rookies and UFAs

Signing Draft Picks

Quite a few teams have done it already, but now's the time to get those draftees' signatures and have them suit up for your squad. It is essentially just like signing your own free agents, but you don't have to worry about holdouts/franchise tags, and you typically have far fewer players to sign.

There are a few things you need to keep in mind as you read your PM. One, you will not know the overall ratings until they are signed. That is an in-game mechanic and not something by my design. Two, the desired deals for each player, in terms of length, is based on where they were taken. It is as follows:

Top 5 - Six years
6-10 - Five years
11-32 - Four years
2nd-4th rounds - Three years
5th-7th rounds - One year

Once again, you do not have to offer them their exact deals and can change their length, but I advise you to sign them to the length that they ask for because if you change the length, they might ask for considerably more money.

The deadline to sign your rookies will be Saturday, January 15th at Noon ET. Should you idle, I will sign all your rookies to the deals that they are asking for (such a severe punishment I know). If you have roster space issues, then I will prioritize players who will fill roster holes and then in descending order of when they were selected until your roster is filled.
