So, I've been talking with a few people about their games and I've realized I've been saying the same sort of general things over and over again. I figure given I won't be looking at every game I might as well just write them down here. If you are currently making or interested in making a game, here are

Plums 3 rules for advanced mafia game creation

1. Make it thematic. You picked a theme for your mafia game, use that theme! Themes are excellent avenues into creating roles that have never been done before. Not every role needs to be completely unique, but let your theme inspire you to create a few roles that aren't standard and then fill out the rest of the game with what's missing.
2. Make it memorable. There have been a hundred games played on B8. Why is this one different? Some of the most memorable games really twisted the formula such as the Death Note game where people's B8 identities were hidden. You don't need to rewrite the rules, but a great game will have something that stands out as different.
3. Make it fun. Reward players for playing mafia well. Great roles reward players for making sharp inferences or surviving far into the game instead of bailing out players playing poorly or almost getting lynched. Don't use roles that stop people from playing mafia. Roles that result in feel bad moments or leave players feeling deceived by the host aren't fun.

That's a bit farther of a take than I would have.

I mostly have qualms about peoples inconsistencies and being ok to eat animals as long as they are already prepared and neatly cut so you can't tell they were an animal any more.

I'm not out here saying because people are ok with eating animals they should be able to go around abusing them

I would assume jakyl's lack of understanding has to do with the fact that people aren't consistent with caring for animals in pain. If they were we would have more outrage about factory farming so it seems like people generally speaking are very inconsistent.

It seems time and time again people are shocked when scandals, most notably trump document scandals, dont move any needles and that is because the scandals have no impact on the supporters. Die hard trumpets already know Trump is a sleezy dude and support him anyways. (Or think literally everything is fake) scandals that are just a retread of that do nothing.

The reason why this Hershel Walker scandal is noteworthy is because it is a scandal that isnt acceptable to his core base of supporters. I already wondered if Rural Georgia was going to be enthusiastic to vote for a black man, and a black man that fits their racist stereotypes because of this scandal could absolutely result in them not voting.

To give a bit of a tease and to explain why this is taking longer than expected, this is a FF esper game. Night actions are granted by espers, and espers transfer on death. (Exact mechanics will be in the opening post)

Because of this, balancing espers that could potentially transfer multiple times is really hard. The hurricane absolutely did not help.

We almost have everything locked down, but we are still adjusting the last few roles.

Ok, well lets start off by saying Battler is still a poorly designed character up to this point that seems to think whatever the hell the plot requires him to think.

But in terms of plot its an interesting wrinkle. In some ways I feel Battler is playing the straight man so that everyone else can be is obtuse as possible until their intentions are slowly revealed.

I should point out that before finally getting around to this, other than the first couple hours of the game I played and quit years ago, the one thing I knew about this game came from a mafia game I played 5 years ago or so where I basically soloed the game as mafia after rolling the Witch of Miracles. I purposefully tried to avoid reading the flavor to figure out why that character was in the game or what they were and didn't really think about it until bernkastel showed up.

But the beginning of Episode 5 has made it apparent that bernkastel is likely not the mythical help in the heroes journey as was alluded to but has incentives that are unclear and possibly negative.

I honestly don't remember the flavor split of that mafia game at all, mafia flavor splits are sometimes quite random.

But regardless it wouldn't surprise me if an easy Bernkastel win isn't actually what Battler wants

I think that is the question right? I think California was hoping it could sway companies into making the better fuel for the environment for everyone and so far that hasnt succeeded. If Californians want to keep paying more for this then that is their prerogative, but you dont want to incite a backlash that torpedos all environmental reform

Well that's fairly effective and the price jump isn't usually that significant when refineries are meeting supply. Sounds like it should just be a national standard. Though at this point electricalization will make it a moot point before something like that would be implemented.

It's just been crazy this year watching prices climb after labor day in spite of all the reasons for them to not.
