Damnit. I wasnt going to say ANYTHING bout the Doomguy. But guess i have to now

Doomguy or Slayer is basically Guts with guns

both are survivors, both are military types, both want to kill all demons. Both have been given godlike attributes in the form of armor

Berserk seems rather comfortably nestled between just about everything, from Batman to Tolkien to Gundam and Devilman. What it doesnt outright anticipate, it emulates beautifully. I was part of a thread one time where people we were pointing out all the recreations of classical art scenes in Berserk, which combined with this line of thought suggests a careful attention to the trends of pop culture and a serious level of craftsmanship. The design notes and art and story guides for Berserk are probably something to behold.

Looking at the prototype, it seems like Miura may have redesigned his creation based on some insider knowledge at the beginning, since the big punch from a lot of other media that same decade largely benefited from that sort of thing. For instance, I've seen nothing to suggest that Griffith is entirely Miura's creation. And it is that special contrast between Guts & Griffith that gives Berserk its electric emotional resonance.

My thoughts go to Desperado (Robert Rodriguez) which I think tells a similar story and shows a similar dichotomy vs the main villain of the hero's past and present, with deep dark secrets, and the metaphorical burden of his revenge in the form of a giant weapons cache, like Christ carrying the cross XD

I expect the world will be "ending" again some time here in the next 20-30 years. Some really old people have survived 3 or 4 apocalypses now. Kinda impressive if you ask me.

Up until around where you're probably at, a nice bleed weapon really does the trick for most bosses. Kinda around the halfway mark I switched to like pure magic. You should have a decent bow too. Lots of crafting material for fire arrows or whatever everywhere you go.

As the other poster said, you want your vitality/vigor to be basically soft capped if you're in the later stages of Elden Ring

Happy hunting

Here, fellow Floydian fans, have this raw ass unfinished post in the spirit of our favorite group!

Disclaimer: I can't speak for a word of the message below, and it's probably rife with the most offensive and insulting mistakes one can make in this capacity, but hey.... Maybe you'll find a gem somewhere in-between the lines or something like that

Gilmour/Waters era Pink Floyd (what most of us fans/followers/listeners listen to) is 110% psychedelic rock, and it is arguably the only straight-up psychedelic rock band to gain any real lasting mainstream attention as an act that remains relevant as ever. Maybe because they play "real music" ;) just kidding, but also not really. Not sure how to describe psychedelic rock off the top of my head. Long, freeform jams. Something like EDM before there was EDM, tbh. As good for an artist looking for a new headspace as it is for a "dumb college kid" looking to go to a big crazy rock show. Lol

What I mean is that this idea of "psychedelic rock" might be distracting you from even attempting to enjoy the music. Because you don't understand the mentality of psychedelic rock, even though I'm sure you could appreciate it. Dream imagery + prophetic imagery and you've pretty much got it. Something that tries to touch your soul and paints an image in your mind. That's all. "Drugs are good" is like pretty far from the message I get from PF. That's why stuff like Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz really click with the fanbase, and so many Metal guitarist openly cite Floyd as an influence. It's more about the music and humanity than anything.

However, if you've ever listened to the same stupid Queen/Beatles song on repeat over and over again for like 2 hours just because the stupid ambience at the intro gave you chills and made you imagine you were in a Hitchcock movie, then you probably know where we're coming from. Pink Floyd came in to popularity as a retrospective and a bit of a parody on actual 60's psychedelic rock and their main theme tends to be the evils of the music industry. I don't think the message is usually "sit down and listen to this while you're intoxicated" but there is plenty of stuff made by them with that in mind too, so.... It's complicated lol.

Nah

Although it can be difficult or aversive for a person to get into psychedelic rock if you don't understand some of what that's about. If you've ever sat there and just listened to the same song over and over again on repeat tho, then you probably have a pretty good idea of where they/we are all coming from here. Most Pink Floyd really pushes for the audience to have an epiphany and make the world a better place tho, or just to feel something, or connect with themselves. The fact that it's so attached to psychedelia is interesting, because I don't think it's much different from Queen, for example. The stories. The provocative emotions. The musicality, etc. So

Same with bar/blues music. if you've never seen anything like that or you aren't into rock. It's gonna sound like junk at first in most cases. Right? You can cut the drugs out of the equation, but without the sex and drinking, rock loses a lot of its steam. Not a violent or aggressive or moody broody person either? There goes the rest of that steam lol. Pink Floyd tends to be reflective on that fact after their frontman went basically nuts during the band's early years before they became a really really big global hit thing. So, if you like to go on little journeys in your head while chilling or walking and listening to music, or you have an appreciation for philosophical anti-authoritarian/evils of rock music/the industry and finding a melding point between introspection and all those other ideas while having a distinct, memorable, and fulfilling musical identity? Then Pink Floyd might be for you! I dont think it's music that endorses drugs or anything, and I'm stone sober most of the time I listen to it. Their sound anticipated and accompanied everything from metal to electronic dance. They were one of the first bands to do a big light/screen/smoke show and that idea evolved on to become The Wall which is practically a stageplay with how elaborate it gets. It's music about being smart (or dumb), realistic (or a dreamer), and how drugs actually ruin lives (or open minds), and
But that is how a lot of people are introduced to Pink Floyd, and a lot of the music is built around that experience. A lot of the music is also built directly against that experience, especially post-Roger Waters' departure from the band. The classic stuff (The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, etc) is great in general but the provocative

Pink Floyd is psychedelic rock. That doesn't mean you need to be intoxicated to enjoy it. Common mistake tbh. Don't feel bad.

You more than likely enjoy psychedelic sounds, imagery, and shows from a number of bands already.

The more I think back on it and look at it, tons of elements of the Eclipse remind me of Pink Floyd's The Wall (animated sequences). I know at least some of the Eclipse was inspired by Dali, maybe some Bosch, definitely Giger, etc. But I definitely see a little Wall in there. Maybe the gimmick of the bricks reminded Miura of Hellraiser & the idea of them transforming into faces clicked with him? Idk.

Is interesting to think about

I definitely see the correlation, and this is basically only what I can fit in this post. Thematically, with the weird Nazi stuff, and the subtext with the history of Pink Floyd, I think it's really fascinating, the parallels between that and Berserk's story and themes and imagery. Interpersonal relationships, trauma, dictatorships, madness, fate, overlapping imagery, etc

Nice. Also learned from reading the gamespot article that talked about it. That Eternal ring and Shadow tower were spin offs.
Shadow Tower has slowly replaced Eternal Ring as my all-time favorite game.

That, and the sequel to Shadow Tower (Abyss). The focus on the monster designs, the bestiary, the item designs (moreso in the original, as the sequel doesn't do quite as much with the bestiary or item artwork), and catch-all story with a strange combo of D&D monsters plus Lovecraft, Oni & Yokai, Disneylike creatures or Fairytale creatures, etc, really wins my heart.

The gameplay is a little more advanced in Shadow Tower, as Eternal Ring mostly just has the ring creation system going for it, and Shadow Tower 2 does an excellent job of combining sword gameplay with shooter gameplay in first-person. Seems like kind of a no-brainer. So yeah...

Kind of has a jungle crawler thing going on at times

Monsters born from dreams and memories of a person is neat, imo. Like a dungeon master. There's a ton of beautiful artwork for the game too. There's just a lot of cool stuff about it. I like the name. I guess they went for more of a Dark Tower thing in the sequel, and in the original it was just like Tower of Babel meets like Sodom and Gomorrah

Oh I'm sure! I'd actually really like to play something new that does like a Shadow Tower thing. The VR game "In Death" is really really close to something I'd like. Between that and like Call of Duty Zombies (Black Ops etc) but yeah....

Lots on my mind. That's interesting. I've played a few King's Field or Ultima/Doom-inspired dungeon crawlers. Tends to be a lot of fun for me
