It could encourage something unsavory in the future. The plot makes no fucking sense at all. They're afraid to kill its actor so Tom cruise could act like he's 18 years old again. I have so many gripes with this kind of movies that romanticise bombing entire area using stealth bomber.

Hey I prefer arthouse movies most times. But Maverick just tickled that sweet spot for the common person. Most people dont know or care about the real life technical capabilities of stealth bombers, the same way a lot of movies have gotten away using quantum physics to explain their movie magic.
