Tempted to buy PQ since the digital version is on sale for $7.99 and the eShop closes next year.

Does PQ spoil P3 badly? I only got partway through P3 before my data got corrupted. Would like to get back to it, but I know that Atlus will announce a P3 Remake the moment I do.

I think every good rivalry is built on both parties needing each other in a way. Chris needs Wesker to have a mission, a purpose, to him Wesker is the symbol of the BOWs, the worldwide chaos, the mounting causalities. Wesker, on the other hand, is the type to enjoy having that thrill of Chris hunting him down, being able to toy with him and his family, someone to test and challenge. That really is the basis of RE1 after all - Wesker calls Chris his "best man", he saves Chris from the Cerberus at the start because deep down he respects Chris and his greater purpose wasn't done yet, and provides Chris with ammo and support to keep him going while probably gloating to himself at his perfect charade. Wesker always knew deep down things weren't going to go totally his way, but having Chris take him down ultimately gave him new fuel for his motivations and thus their intense rivalry was born. Wesker makes things personal in CVX by attacking Claire, and notably lets her go to fight mano-a-mano with Chris showing a bit of respect (Wesker also calls Chris his best man again in CVX, it's so good!). Now unfortunately, I do think the characterization is much weaker on Chris' side, since he's just so bland, but seeing Claire and later Jill fall victim to Wesker does push him to become the boulder-puncher in RE5. It's just so cool to see the push-pull of these two over the course of the series and honestly, looking back on it again, and how they influenced each other, RE5 did a pretty good job at pitting the two together again.

Great points all around. In a way they're like a B-movie version of Batman and the Joker.

That's where having 40 movies would've really benefitted this list. Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep were both on the shortlist and DS was still on the list up until I had to cut 3 more films. It being a sequel to The Shining carried it far but I ultimately gave DS the snub because it wasn't very successful at the box office unfortunately.

Honestly I'd rank Doctor Sleep as the best horror film of 2019 (unless you count Joker), and that's saying something because 2019 was a loaded year for horror.

Thanks for that Snake. I didnt realise that the franchise had been gone for so long, or that it was such a shift back to horror from apparently effectively being a comedy for a while.

Oh it was nothing against the film, I was just surprised to see it over more notable films. It would have been nice to see some Mike Flanagan here, each of his films are worthy of inclusion. He even directed the most improved sequel of all time lol.

Agreed. Doctor Sleep is the most glaring snub IMO.

What other Flanagan movies would you recommend? I thought Gerald's Game was decent and Hush was mediocre.

I played this game like 15 years ago and remember absolutely NOTHING about the plot or characters at all so I'm not going to give it a rating.

Which... is probably not a good sign because I remember the plots of nearly everything I've ever played, watched, or read to at least some extent, even if I've never re-experienced them. It probably would be a middling score if I did based on that, because I'd either remember it for being good or bad if not.

As an aside I'd probably say the same thing for SO3 if not for the famous twist at the end. But even still that's all I remember about that game, too.

I feel you. SO2 is brutally forgettable. The thing I remember clearest is the battles lagging whenever you summon something.

MGS4 vs MGS5...hmm.

MGS4 was once on par with MGS2/3 back in GotD 2010, but the luster has worn off, and it's trapped on a dead console.

MGS5 is more recent and available on several consoles, as well as PC. BUT it gets a lot of hate for being unfinished.

I think MGS4 wins that 60-40, maybe even worse. Which breaks my heart because in my book 5 >>> 4.

FF1 and FF4 benefit a lot from series proxy votes. They are both respected classic FF titles without the polarizing fanbase that the modern entries past FF10 have. Which is why they manage to look fantastic in muti-way polls like these. I doubt it would do this well against RE4 and Persona 4 in a one on one contest setting.

Would love to see Persona 4 vs FF4 in a Round 2/3 matchup. I think P4 wins, but I could see FF4 stomping it if the proxy vote turns out strong.

Basing this off the remake, as I never played the original.

RE2R has a pretty standard zombie apocalypse story that is elevated slightly by the twist with Ada and the final act at the facility. Neither Leon nor Claire stood out to me as characters, and the rest of the cast wasn't any better.

Gameplay-wise this is a 10. But story-wise it's slightly above average.
