if it's something they're the producer and sole releaser of, binge setup has everyone gaining access to it and able to binge it and etc at the same time. and anyone talking about it is at least coming from the perspective of everyone having seen the same thing.

but when it's something like an anime they are releasing a transllation for, saving it all up to release as a batch at the end is what spawned the term "netflix jail" in the community, where anyone watching it through any other source has the actual normal experience and anyone waiting on netflix has to dodge spoilers for weeks while everyone gets excited about something they won't see for months

I've been on both ends of that sort of playthrough topic before. the person playing it, and the person reading along with the status updates. and while they can both be interesting in their own way they really pale in comparison to an actual convrsation between multiple people about the series as an ongoing thing, rather than this sort of setup where people who have completed it already can't really say anything other than insubstantial comments on things directly mentioned by the player

"discussion" implies a certain amount of two way back and forth. one person dumping all their thoughts and then someone else going "hmm yep those are definitely thoughts, I also watched that episode" is not a discusion

that said you can definitely have actual discussions of fully released stuff. just grab a few people who haven't seen it and watch it together. try to sync yourself up roughly so no one gets too far ahead. like, for example, you could organize it so that you watch a new episode every week.......

this isn't really a discussion it's a person using a forum as a blog while a crowd of onlookers treat him like some sort of zoo exhibit

discussing media when people have vastly different levels of knowledge of the events, plot, etc is really difficult. someone who has finished a series can definitely be entertained by reading speculations of someone currently watching it, but it's hard for them to really join in in any meaningful way because they just know too much

I came in here ready to say I know that feel, and then one of your examples of exceptions was one of th games I had in mind as "comfort food" (hades)

my interpretation of the term was like... games with short sessions, not much continuity, thee sort of game where you ccan pick it up randomly at any time, with any length of break, and play anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours and you don't have to try to remember where you were in the story or worry that you're not progressing anywhere or etc etc

I tried googling for actual numbers to back this up but couldn't find any so I'll just say it anecdotally - I'd guess the game's like 150-175% the length of the previous ones

I think you just gotta use reasonable judgement based on age, importance of the piece of knowledge, cchance anyone around is playing/reading/watching/etc it (or will be soon) etc etc

now that you've finished the second game I can share my thoughts on chiaki the whole "traitor" thing is that all the other characters are part of the despair side, and she's the only one who isn't and is trying to fix them. so she's not really what the player might see as a traitor but her entire point is to secretly oppose the other characters and help toward getting them to become something else

uh usually when I put parsley in something it's with the intent to eat it

also bay leaves cook in things and the flavour comes out of the leaf itself, you don't have to actually eat it. they're not something you can just toss in at the end because then yah there's really no point

I also don't really hold Hololive in that high a regard though, I just value individual streamers versus the entire company.

I've flipflopped back and forth on this so much over the years

like, on one hand I would totally follow any of my favourites away from hololive if they left and started streaming as independent or as part of another company. so in that sense I value the individual. and I don't think I'd instantly start loving some streamer I didn't like before just because they joined, either.

but on the other hand, hololive was more or less what introduced me to vtubers (not gonna count watching kizuna ai extremely early) and a good number of my favourites are holoive even now. plus often some of the most fun streams are collabs and the big company setup like this provides a good framework for that to happen more easily & means you often at least have a general idea of what the person they're collabing with is like even if you don't reallly watch them

you guys need to think outside the box a bit

I dunno I'd say most of them were pretty good

extremely good, should have stuck around. cool both mechanically and from a design perspective (although a few of them look sorta lame)

yeah I thought about it a bit more after and realized I'd missed a key component of the whole thing. I stilll don't find it weird at alll to have someone who is a big long-term fan and rarely if ever says anything in chat or comments (also for a bigger streamer it's not at all unreasonable they are saying stuff but you just don't notice it in the noise). but I didn't really consider that the sorts of people who don't say anything most of the time would probably just continue to not say anytthing instead of making angry rants

It's literally just like 3 people among the regulars. Everybody else are shitposters (from -both- the 'males bad' and 'idol culture bad' camps) or twitter clout chasers looking for easy targets to dunk on.

based on my fanbase experience (eng speaking fanbases of a few of the holojp members) basically everyone there is happy to see any sort of collab and I don't get the impression there would be much pushback against collabs with guys, with non-vtubers, outside holoive, etc etc. except for that one guy who absolutely hates kiara and says she ruins otherwise good streams if she's one of the members <_<

I'm inclined to guess that the sorts of people who are rude / insulting / aggressive / whatever about this are kind of harder to find in actual community spaces because they are probably sort of insufferable and either don't want to involve themselves or get kicked out

this is an interseting topic since I don't think I've been to a restaurant that offers chicken tenders in over a decade

I wonder if they can break up and then no longer need permission (since they're not longer partners) or if that just makes it even more difficult to get the permission then

because like, realistically speaking, I think if there's significant enough of a disagreement over this between two people that getting the permission is difficult, they probably won't stick together long regardless of which way the final decision goes

uhh.. i'm gonna go with "not an accident" because you gotta be a pretty tremendous dumbass to not know the difference between liquid soap and juice. You don't accidentally pick up a bottle of soap and pour yourself a glass.

I dunno, if it was a particularly runny brand of soap, grape scented, in an unmarked container, I could totally imagine people mixing it up if they're not paying attention

are you not generally aware of the source material (or lack thereof) of the shows you watch? anime originals especially are so rare they tend to stick in my mind

I have a good friend who dropped out of highschool and is probably one of the smarter people I know
