Yeah it's weird. Like I'm not particularly excited by seeing the old characters, but overall the presentation looks much better than Three Houses, and it's still a full new game. Looks like it'll even have a more interesting version 3H's castle. Looks great!

Same all-around, man! I think the presentation sticks out to me the most. Weird that there's no mention of Gust's involvement yet, at least not from what I'm finding as I write stuff up. I'm pretty sure that's still a thing.

I'm with XIII, Lucario victory is likeliest, but Ash kicking the tourney bucket here still feels distinctly possible. I don't like that we're going to Goh (heh) after this fight. I realize Chloe got stuff recently as well, but ehh. The saving grace here is that there's no episode following Cynthia to see who takes the crown or anything, meaning surely there's a high chance that's not a wrap regardless.

XIV wouldn't make the finals anyways. Being an MMO means the characters are fighting a tougher battle than most.

Sure, but it's the best cast, so it's worth the votes. I don't know what this place has been like over the past few years, but when I played, this sort of performance for XIV was unheard of.

Star Trek: Picard's second season has been as remarkably uneven as The Book of Boba Fett, except with higher peaks and (probably) higher valleys as well. It's kind of fascinating, tbh. In future years, people are going to say the problems emerged when Terry Matalas got super-busy with writing/filming the third season and left Akiva Goldsman to his own devices for the back half of the second.

But that seems overly simple to me; I've already watched the first few episodes of Strange New Worlds, for example, and Goldsman wrote the rather excellent premiere. He's not always the bogeyman people want him to be.

I think Matalas and the others just... had an idea that ought to have lasted half as many episodes as it has. That's that. This season started out incredibly, fell into disarray, and it's picked itself back up toward the end now but tied itself to the kinds of cliches I like to think Trek is generally above. ("Borgified morally bankrupt ex-mercs!" It's like an Agents of SHIELD midseason finale plot.)

Still looking forward to tonight's finale. And seriously looking forward to the third season. I think people who outright abhor this show, some of them, even, are going to stick around for that big TNG cast reunion. Should be something special.

Anyway, yes. Strange New Worlds deserves its 100% RT and 80% Metacritic score. I agree with that turnout in full. If you're a lapsed Star Trek fan who's been waiting for a more episodic sci-fi-trope-of-the-week with lessons in moral conviction and smart characters doing smart things, welcome back. I prefer the 24th-century (25th now, I guess) aesthetic over the whole pre-Kirk era stuff, but even I have to admit this show looks sexy as hell.

Moon Knight! I've liked it a lot. Ethan Hawke has made for a great foil. Oscar Isaac clearly has more to chomp on here than he did in the Star Wars sequels, and he rises to the occasion. I've got something of a DID side to myself, so the fifth episode hit me pretty hard. If I have one complaint, it's the usual thing with new Marvel fare, and it's a relatively minor one. People on this version of Earth still act shocked whenever something seemingly supernatural occurs. I'm honestly not sure I'd so much as bat an eye at the revelation that Egypt's gods are real beings. I mean look at what happened with Norse legends.

But that's such a small thing since it doesn't really pop up often. And I get why it is the way it is. It's just. You know.

Demon Slayer was pretty fun. Only watched the first season so far though. May check out the second season on my own but for now I've been content to see if Toonami will get it or if the cost got too high for them or something since I'd have thought they'd have picked it up by now if they could.

Lotsa people have been telling me stuff gets more interesting after the first season, which is neat, because yeah. Totally into it already.
