It was originally billed as releasing "this winter" - Dec 13 is still technically autumn!! If the playstation release were sooner (or it wasnt released on all systems at the same time) I'd be surprised...

Seems to have more effort put into story presentation, but otherwise it appears to be pretty much the same as the original. Even the same 8 classes and path actions. The night time path actions didn't really look like anything new either, just gives each character a second already-existing action.

I don't know how much hype I'm really gonna have for it.

I have over 200 hours in 3 Houses and like 110 or something like that in 3 Hopes. I don't thing there was game I was anticipating more than a new FE. Even as a FFXIV Stan I was still anticipating a new FE more than FFXVI.

But this just looks so terrible. I'm so....god damn dissapointed, fuck....

Yeah it's weird. Like I'm not particularly excited by seeing the old characters, but overall the presentation looks much better than Three Houses, and it's still a full new game. Looks like it'll even have a more interesting version of 3H's castle (edit: I guess it seems more reminiscent of Fate's castle stuff). Looks great!

Same all-around, man! I think the presentation sticks out to me the most. Weird that there's no mention of Gust's involvement yet, at least not from what I'm finding as I write stuff up. I'm pretty sure that's still a thing.

Which division of Koei worked on Three Houses? Was that not part of Gust too?

One of the guys in my FE Discord group said he's going to blacklist the game and completely ignore it even once it comes out. He doesn't even want to look at it, To quote, he's "Disengaging". Not a happy camper lol. I can't look away myself.

This would explain a lot. Other than the occasional decent Atlelier game (which I'm not personally a fan of, gave Ryza 20 hours and it was ungodly boring), Gust churns out infinite trash.

Just got the chance to watch it:

-Fire Emblem Engage, I liked the art at the start, it looks much, much lighter in tone and style than the last several Fire Emblems, maybe than any? However, the visuals look good bad hair aside, the gameplay looks solid, I personally prefer the darker more intrigue driven Three Houses style of story but this looks good.

-It Takes Two is a no-brainer for Switch, visuals look a little rough but local wireless co-op is nice.

-FF4/PZ4, cool.

-Okay is nobody else talking about how weirdly good that Spongebob game looked?

-FOTNS fitness, hilarious.

-Tunic, great, but did it look like it was having some performance issues to anyone else?

-Octopath Traveller II, great! The first game was really good and this seems to be addressing most of the issues though I wish the classes were new.

-I have never played a Theatrhythm game but that seems like an absurd amount of content.

-Goldeneye reveal got me good. I wonder if there will be cross-play.

-Ib looks REALLY striking, definitely interested in checking this one out and Im happy to see others feeling the same. Always love when a small game gets the Cuphead moment in a show of wait, what was THAT!?.

-I guess that Pikmin mobile game didnt do very well if theyre demoing it here.

-Pikmin 4, excellent! Although after eight years you would think they would have more to show

-Bayonetta 3 looks great, all concerns from the initial reveal are gone.

-It is really silly that all of these RE games are cloud versions. It was already out as a cloud version in Japan so no surprise, but VII was designed to run on PSVR and runs at 60fps on a base Xbox One. You can get it working on Switch.

-Wasnt this ToS remaster kind of bad? Or are they re-remastering it? Great game but at this point it needs a full remake.

-Return to Dreamland was not the first party Nintendo rerelease/remake I was expecting here!

-Tears of the Kingdom, didnt show much but its good to have a title and release date. Its the sequel to one of the best games ever made, no pressure.

All in all, solid direct. Would be middle of the pack if you ranked them but still good. Also put me in the surprised by the Fire Emblem reaction in this thread category.

Bad in what way? If you are referring to the PS3 version in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, I think it was just the frame rate people took issue with (it was 30fps like the PS2 version) and some odd typos in the script. Otherwise, it's pretty much ToS with all the extra PS2 content.

It did freeze quite a bit.

The real problem is that it's Symphonia and not Abyss!

Having actually watched the FE trailer now...

While I'd never bet against modern FE being cringe (generic JRPG fantasy settings, waifu shit, self-reference, and bad character designs are all modern FE staples; this is a lateral move) I think everyone needs to remember that Three Houses looked awful in its first trailer too. Remember the FE: Hogwarts jokes? If that game turned it around this one, potentially, can as well.

There's zero reason to keep it a secret this long. It probably just doesn't have it, though there is a social link-esque feature for the various characters.

Gonna have to disagree there because I regularly rewatch the 3H reveal trailer because of how excited it made me for the game. I watched it again as recently as last week!

Probably should have phrased it more as "people were extremely unhappy with that trailer as well", I don't even remember it well enough to judge its actual quality.

I really don't remeber that at all. People were really excited for the walking around and the more dynamic animations. I recall people getting real excited when the trailer came out. I don't think you can compare the to the repulsion of this one, but I guess not everyone agrees about how horrendous this looks and sounds.

Reactions to the first Three Houses trailer were absolutely middling. The leaks plus later trailers turned it around.

I mean 90% of the reason Three Houses was great was the amazing cast so if Engage managed to have engaging characters then it'll be fine.

Engage isn't going to be good. Luckily, a FE4 remake is on the way.

The mere presence of all the old characters makes the narrative inherently uninteresting. I don't see how they can turn it around.

Just wait until we find out it does the Xenoblade 2 thing and you're rolling for all these heroes, too.

so weird finishing the direct thinking FE looked great, showed a cool cast of expressive characters and getting excited about bringing back the past heroes mechanic, to then an hour later reading B8 kinda mid or down about it

B8 on the whole is actually being much kinder to this game's reveal than everywhere else, if you ignore my personal tirade (this has actually kind of ruined my morning lol, I just got a raise half an hour ago and I feel angrier at this game than I feel good about that)

It's dunk city all over the place most everywhere else, though it's mostly because of the hair.

I want to see more of FE Engages characters

Personally I don't like FE after the GBA era, the writing for the story and characters is probably great, the gameplay is surely great, the character designs are great too...but I dunno, I can't stand the realistic overworld, it looks so soulless
