And with that, thank you, everyone, for getting this topic to 500. The mystery second S-tier would have been The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which isn't a very good show, but I love how silly the puppets are, especially the skeksis.

And I remember thinking "god, Travis, you're such an idiot." Like, let's set aside any questions of whether or not this is Final Fantasy-esque. I already said that I prefer my fantasy and my sci-fi to be separate. Spirits Within is a very bland sci-fi future mixed with space ghosts. That's about it. It's impressive as a technical achievement and as a monument to man's hubris, but that's about it.

Where's Waldo: As a kid, my dad refused to get his hair cut by anyone except this one woman he knew, who lived aross town. He still gets his hair cut by her exclusively even thirty years later, but the point is that I had to drive with him an hour each way and sit in the building for two hours or something while they cut and talked, and since this was before cell phones, the only entertainment I had was that she had some Where's Waldo and Goofus and Gallant books. So, in short, Where's Waldo is burned into my mind. I wasn't always able to find his friends, like the dog or the evil Waldo.

X-Men: The Animated Series: It's shocking how seriously this show takes itself, how the art tries to actually look good and comic-y, and how the characters are in their 20s and 30s, save for Jubilee. Along with Batman TAS, this is basically the only good early comic show.

Mega Man X: I feel like I sort of have to put MM and MMX together. MMX definitely has better robot masters and a better version of Proto Man, but MM's design is much better than X's. Besides, MM also has a special place in my nostalgic heart for the early 2000s webcomic Bob and George, which I read before ever touching a MM game.
Mega Man (Original): I will gladly grant that MM7 is not very good, but it's definitely the best-looking classic MM game. I know the sprite is too big for the screen, but it's got the detail and face just right, whereas like MM8 is ugly and the NES ones are a little too primitive. A lot of robot masters are lame, but they're the kind of classic, good, 80s/90s type of lame, so it's fine. MM has maybe the strongest music of any game series, by the way.

Legend of Mana: Another classic PS1 sprite game. There's something to PS1-era sprite games, because they're in the era of when 3D was hot and new and everyone wanted to do it, so you knew that any sprite-based game was trying to do something artistic. That said, I think that a lot of sprite talent just evaporated in the late 90s, because after some point, all of the AAA sprite games just became bad? They sort of recovered, but even now, sprites in AAA really only exist for beat-em-ups and certain fighting games. I wonder what a true attempt at going maximum high-quality spritework in the modern era would look like? Like, not SNES-looking games, but an actual attempt at something that takes advantage of modern technology.

Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!: I remember this one, I watched a bit of it. When it came out, people would only compare it to Family Guy, and for good reason. There's an episode of Family Guy with a cutaway joke to Scooby-Doo, where the characters look almost exactly like this show. To be honest, making Daphne insane was a good all. Daphne's always been the most boring characcter on the show, she's always just been "the girl" with a different interest every appearance. Everyone else is fairly consistent, but sometimes Daphne is a martial artist, sometimes she's a journalist, she can be anything at any time. Making her be wacky and nutso WAS something new, and the humor wasn't really that bad. I liked the cutaway sequences where Velma explained how the criminals did it. Oh, the art? It sucks.

People were like "oh, it's like I'm really there," and I was like, "this looks like a video game." And yeah, everyone says this, but it's true -- Avatar is the movie with the most box office success relative to its nonexistent presence in pop culture. Suffice it to say, there's such a thing as being too ahead of your time, and this is an example of that. RE1 is not scary at all, and it's not just because of the voice acting or a lack of imagination, it's because the graphics of this era were just not capable of being scary, I'm sorry.

Tron: Tron is terrible, of course, but it's visually really interesting. Like, I can see how someone who's never interacted with a computer before would think of this as computery. I know I said that The Last Unicorn is the bluest movie ever, but I take it back, it's Tron. All of the programs and designs of everything are super creative and interesting, the Lightcycle is super cool, just everything looks awesome. But the movie itself is ass.

Resident Evil 4: I love RE4 and all, it's in my top five games of all time, and it's easily the best RE, but its visual design is only pretty good. I like the Las Plagas, of course, and while the ugliness of rural Spain fits perfectly for what the game needs, it lacks the visceral grossness of some of the other games. The only really standout part to me is the underground laboratory/prison section.

Marvel's Spider-Man (Insomniac): I know they wanted this game to be the definitive Spiderman game, and to that end, it's a rousing success. It covers all of Spiderman's bases, really. New York is beautiful and sprawling, and the graphics are all really solid... It's good. Nothing more to be said, really.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I'm just going to assume you meant this one, because it's the only one anyone cares about. I've never actually watched this show? I know vaguely about bronies. Just looking at it, I get a sense of what all of the main characters' personalities are like, so that's good. They have basic character design down to a science, so I appreciate that.

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island: I like how they tried to update the designs and animation, even if I dislike Fred's new clothing. Really, the issue with this is that there is no possible progression after it. You have a group of characters who specialize in seeing through illusions, so the obvious progression is that they finally find real monsters. But then what? The series never really had an answer.

Tom & Jerry: I'm going to assume we mean the designs they settled on, and not the originals. They're fine designs, really, nothing more to say about it. Again, I know it was groundbreaking when it came out, but like with Loony Tunes, I think cartoon humor has progressed beyond this point? One thing I want to mention is those late 2000s/early 2010s crossovers where Tom & Jerry were in famous movies, and the Willy Wonka one, where the writers just forgot to include the scene where people sign a contract, so later Wonka pulls out the contract triumphantly and talks about it, and if you're a kid who hasn't seen the original, you'd be like what. I also enjoy how Multiversus made them and Bugs Bunny part of the mage class, since wacky cartoon physics can't be rationalized any other way. But yeah, like, no one out there is like "Tom & Jerry is my favorite thing ever."

SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron: I feel like this is one of the final TMNT knockoffs, right? Instead of teenage mutant ninja turtles, they're secret identity mechanic cops, and even their villain is another guy in a mask. But actually, what I want to focus on is the girl. Everyone else is clearly a humanoid cat, which is fine, but she looks basically exactly like a human, except with a cat nose. I'm just saying.

Because I remember Yusuke going to an art school in Persona 5, too, and this comes up every so often in anime stuff. I can't imagine a career less likely to work out than traditional artist, right? How do you make money doing that? It feels like you're either going to end up working fast food or drawing fetish porn on Deviantart for your patreon. Anyway yeah classic anime eyes that are too big.

Resident Evil (Remake): This is the only game in the series that is even remotely scary, and its scariness is reliant on two things: the fact that the characters react like this is a fantastic situation (compare Jill freaking out at one zombie to Claire in RE:Rev 2, where she is completely unafraid the entire game, and shows more concern about guys with normal guns than the monsters) and the sound design. I have no idea who did that zombie gurgling noise, these are 11/10 zombie noises, they'll never be beaten. Everyone dresses like sort of real world cops, except Wesker's sunglasses at night, which is fine, and the mansion's Edwardian aesthetics, though completely insane and nonsensical, lend real atmosphere. This series has always been based on the idea of normal humans with normal weapons fighting fantastic science monsters, and the remake doesn't do it the best (RE4 does), but it's almost the best. Basically, this is the perfect horror setting.

The mandela effect works because it would have been plausible for it to have been "Toons", but that was simply never the case. It's always been Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, much like Disney's Silly Symphonies, and it was named that way because it was meant to showcase their music library. Yeah I know, go figure.
Actually surprised by this, thanks.

Anyway, I'm not really into settings that are just everything at once, you know? Like combining fantasy and sci-fi and whatever else. I prefer my genre fiction a little more focused, I guess? So, when I see a satyr and a spaceship at once, I'm like ehhhhhhh, I'm sure it's good if you enjoy that sort of thing, but I usually like things divided into categories a little more.

Looney Tunes: My entire life, I thought it was Loony Toons. Is this some weird Mandela Effect? No, I'm looking it up, and Tiny Toons used the "toon" name, goddamn. Anyway, let's be real here. No one out there is like "man I love Looney Tunes, can't get enough of it," but the characters nevertheless serve as the bedrock of basically all animation. No one likes Mickey Mouse, no one in the entire universe cares about him outside of Kingdom Hearts memes. Bugs and Daffy have personality, even if they don't quite click today the way they did in the 60s or whatever. Like, no one can tell me that Disney's core cast even remotely compares to Looney Tunes'.

Haunting Ground: I consider this to be the Platonic ideal of early-to-mid 2000s horror games. Resident Evil isn't scary at all, Silent Hill is got bad after three games, and Eternal Darkness is too weird. This is the perfect representation of the genre at that time. The main character has pretty much the perfect horror leading girl design, too.
Saga of the Swamp Thing
Futurama
Berserk: I've never read Berserk, but I know the story vaguely. It's incredible how detailed the artwork is, no wonder it got like one new chapter per two years, no wonder the author died long before it finished.

Dilbert 2 and 3: Hideous, but purposeful. Didn't expect the hot lady to turn into ET. Anyway, the guy who writes Dilbert is crazy. It's funny how Dilbert's ennui from spending all day in an cubicle was super relatable in the 90s, but not really anymore. This perfectly captures the pointlessness of what a lot of modern work feels like, in any case.

The Addams Family (1992): Superior to the original in design, which isn't difficult, since the concept is inherently wacky, and cartoons do wackiness better than live action ever can. You know, I just realized the main cast lacks a werewolf character. And Gomez is WOAH WAIT A SECOND I did not remember Wednesday and her brother being that short. They look like ten-year-olds, but they're the size of five-year-olds, am I just now noticing this? No, it's that the art is super inconsistent, okay.

Goddamn, I had no memory of the nerdy one, and I just looked up the show.

And of course H-B stuff is ugly. It relies on everything except the animation and artwork to hold it up.

The Real Ghostbusters: Ugly, but it fits. The most important thing about this series will forever be that they had to call it "The Real Ghostbusters" because of the other Ghostbusters. Although, I still don't understand why they made Egon blond. Was it because they didn't want everyone to have dark hair? Because I would have thought it makes more sense to make Ray blond, if you have to blondify someone. It's also funny to compare this series to the other one, where they made a bunch of OC ghostbusters, and you can instantly tell who the real ones are vs the new ones.

D Tier
Rugrats: I remember watching this show a million times as a kid, but the only episodes I remember are the Passover one, the one where Stu has amnesia, and the Reptar on Ice bit. Let's also discuss the CGI reboot, the style of which looks ugly, but that's fine given what the series is. The main thing I'm interested in is that they deaged Suzy to be the same age as the babies, so only Angelica is older now. I assume that's so she can be more involved in the adventures, so that's fine. Such an odd series.
Halo Legends: The Duel
Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt: Ultimate meh. It's probably a good game, but I'm not impressed by its visuals.
Harley Quinn
Tekken
Cromartie High School
Brandy & Mr. Whiskers
Borderlands: This series is the manifestation of that one meme of an FPS with way too much happening on the screen and a giant HUD where you can't see anything. Even when that's not happening, the colors are all so garish. I acknowledge that this is a creative choice, but eh.

The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan: I mean, everyone knows that H-B stuff always looked ugly. It relies entirely on design to carry its characters, and this show is an Asian family dressed in 70s clothing. That's it, there's nothing more to it. Do you want to see a girl dressed like Judy Jetson, but not quite? God, is it racist that the main character is named Charlie Chan and he has nine children? I'll give the series for credit for making all of the kids visually distinct, at least, but you can't tell any of their personalities at a glance. There needed to be a nerdy one, a jock one, a loner goth one, etc. I guess this is from 1972, so a hippie instead of a goth, whatever.

They're tiny creatures that live in the woods that help people and their main villain a goofy sorcerer.
You know, I somehow didn't notice that. Guess I've got brain problems!

Paw Paws is seen more of a Smurfs rip off since the bears are tiny and about the same size as Smurfs.

Hanna Barbera's Paw Paws: Is this another obscure Care Bears ripoff? How many are there? Care Bears was worse than Barney, and Barney was already bad to begin with. I can honestly say I never watched a single Care Bears thing even as a little kid for more than one minute. God, this Princess Paw Paw character is so poorly-designed and off-model, and I don't know if you can be off-model if that's just how you look, but so be it. According to Wikipedia, this is about a group of Native American bears defending themselves from "the Meanos." But I want to take a moment to point out how poorly-written the first sentence in the plot synopsis is, this is clearly written by someone who just didn't care: "A group of Native American bear cubs defending themselves from their enemies, The Meanos, led by the evil sorcerer Dark Paw." That's the entire sentence, and the rest of the paragraph mixes past and present tense constantly. Very unprofessional.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES): This is pure nostalgia, but you can't stop me. I remember playing the first one at my friend Sam's house in 1994, and being blown away. I asked my mom for it, and she bought it, put it on a shelf to mock me, and said I could play it only when I got all As in school. Like, the games themselves are fine or whatever, but the graphics for 1994 are insane. I don't really know how you describe what they look like, but they look like nothing else on the SNES. I can't call them more realistic, but the sprites are more detailed in a way that nothing else at the time was. Visually, at least, these games are great.

Allison Road (Video Game): I watched the whole prototype gameplay for this, and the thing I took away was that modern games still can't show liquid falling correctly. At one point, the main character turns on a faucet, then turns it off, and the way the water falls looks so unnatural. But yes, vaguely PT vibes here. You know, has there ever been a positive portrayal of Christianity in a video game? Like, not those cheapo Christian games made in Flash or whatever, I mean one game with religious themes where religion isn't used as a scary force. Blood leaking down off the walls and a monster girl whose limbs are all double-jointed, yes, this is what I expect in a creepy horror game.

It's too bad that we get a ton of games set in medieval or fantasy Europe and Japan, and occasionally in China, but never elsewhere. I can't think of any Aztec video games, for instance, and the only Middle-Eastern ones I can think of are the Prince of Persia games. I'm just saying, I wouldn't say no to an action game where you run around fantasy India fighting tiger guys or something, I don't know.

I cannot tell any of them apartt at all except the red one and the witch, and only then because they're the largest in the image, so I assume they're the main characters. McDonald's jumped on the Minions bandwagon by making their mascots a bunch of Happy Meal Boxes that dance and yell stupid noises, so they don't need Ronald McDonald and co. when they can appeal to the TikTok kids with this.

The Land Before Time: Was there ever a series that got luckier than Land Before Time? Being a dinosaur cartoon right before Jurassic Park made dinosaurs cool again was so, so lucky. The character designs are perfectly fine, although Littlefoot has always looked ugly. I don't really know what to say, this has always been one of 'those' series, the kind you see in the store but never actually watch.
Darksiders
Alice's Wonderland Bakery
Banjo-Kazooie

Monty Python Animations: They're perfect for what they are, of course. I never really got into Monty Python, it seems like something you couldn't get into anymore.

Tangled: The Series: I have no idea how Tangled of all things got such a high-quality series. I know this is a different ballgame from those garbage 90s series they made after each movie, but someone here clearly actually cared about the material, cared about making a weird and unique animation style that keeps the spirit of the characters alive, and actually just cared in general. Completely inexplicable.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn: I'm assuming you mean the animated series, because that's its name? It has this dark, vaguely film noir-esque style. I was actually shocked to learn that it's from the 1990s, this looks very similar to those direct-to-DVD DC films put out every few years.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Dual Links
Street Fighter VI
Black Dynamite: I have no idea what you could possibly expect me to say. Instead, I'll ask this: are the 1970s the ugliest decade, aesthetically? I don't think a single 1970s-specific aesthetic trend has survived.
