I misphrased. I don't believe that Russia has like... multiple armies or whatever. But what is happening right now seems pretty similar to other shit Russia has done before. And burning through your more worthless shit early on, while an incredibly stupid thing to do if you wanted to perform a Blitzkrieg, can transition to other stuff.

Note that it seems that the general strategy here is to:

1. surround area.
2. demand surrender on pain of being reduced to rubble
3. bombard until area is reduced to rubble.

It's not fallen into place everywhere just yet, especially because I think they may have orders to specifically not do that to key locations, but this is already causing a great deal of devastation in certain places, and the situation is only going to deteriorate. I'm glad that it hasn't been an absolute shit-show for the Ukrainians from the start, but... *shrug*

Edit: Note the Russians not having adequate food and water actually makes this strategy significantly more dangerous for the surrounded people, AND it means any prisoners that the Russians take are not likely to be fed and watered well either.

Unfortunately, I think that may be more proof of that. At best, you'll see those forces surrender. At worst, they're going to start raiding/looting the civs in earnest.

Ah. I've only read The Rithmatist. It was okay. I thought it was at its weakest when it was clearly trying to simultaneously channel but subvert expectations of people familiar with the Harry Potter series. Was a shame because it distracted from the stuff in the book that was interesting.

This is correct. Viscount doesn't seem to understand hate crimes at all. Hate crimes can be committed against any categorized group noted under law. So if a hate crime law specifies that it acknowledges people being targeted for their sex/gender, this does not just mean "cis women and trans people."

It just so happens that hate crimes happen most often against these groups for a variety of reasons, but if Viscount could be bothered to, oh, I don't know, read the fucking laws, he might have noticed that the language does not exclude majority/dominant sociopolitical groups from the possibility of having a hate crime committed against them recognized.

At best, he could argue that it is unfortunate that such events are less likely to be taken as seriously in discourse due to the bizarre nature of our society, but that is even speculation on my part and that's not what he's saying. He's just whining about nothing.

It's dumber than that. Putin secured power by being a strongman who wanted to restore Russia to its former glory and who stoked the flames of nationalism and military conquest. And now he either buys into his own bullshit or is facing internal pressure to deliver from his supporters. We see the same situation with Xi in China. Hell, we saw the same with Trump in the US, though with much less success.

I think that it's more that he is now old and is pissy about the fact that he has failed with respect to every goal he's had. This, in his mind, seems to be a last ditch effort to not be viewed as a complete failure of a leader, but it's having the opposite effect. Even after Ukraine falls (and it will fall, there's no chance of it standing unless Russia backs off, and they won't), this will be considered a massive failure on multiple fronts.

What's becoming apparent is that the Russian military is much more poorly equipped/trained than anyone had guessed. I don't believe the Ukrainian numbers, but regardless this was supposed to be a cake walk.

It's odd because it seems that they simultaneously thought that they could sweep Ukraine in like 1-2 days, but they also sent in their shittiest equipment and least-experienced forces first.

Russia trying out a blitzkrieg on Ukraine while not properly preparing contingencies in the event of failure, fucking morons. Like all strongman dumbfucks, when shit hits the fan, they're pathetic, wasteful, and worthless.

More importantly, I think that leaders underestimate the effect social media is going to have on war morale. From day 1, this whole affair has been heavily televised and is wildly unpopular across the globe. This has a negative impact on the aggressive force and galvanizes the opposition. It won't be enough to tip the scales, but it will do the one thing that Putin almost certainly doesn't want (and actually gives a fuck about) which is that it will destroy him in the history books.

Grim solace can be taken in the fact that Putin has managed to solidify his position in history as a universally loathed failure of a leader whose only claim to fame is killing people far better than himself.

After that, I think it's a matter of color preference between purple, green and blue paired with which evolution you just like the most in terms of unit power or maybe even their voice in general.

Vaporeon's shiny is purple.
Umbreon and Sylveon are blue, with Sylveon's change being very dramatic.
Espeon and Jolteon are green.

Personally I think I would go with Sylveon just because I am not crazy about the non-shiny colors of the normal Sylveon, but... *shrug*

I don't know what my first RPG was but I think FF6 was the first one I really played.

My family bought a bunch of used NES games in bulk in 1991. My first RPG was Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) 1, though you could also consider Zelda 2, Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, and Legacy of the Wizard RPGs as well and they were all in that stack of games my parents got (though imo LotW is an adventure game, not an RPG, and it's odd that some people classify it as such).

I think the next RPGs I played were FF2 (4) and Dungeon Master on the SNES... or maybe Castle of the Winds on the PC?

Well, it's... I admit I don't know much about this topic, but I think that this is a more fundamental problem with how sports in general are structurally organized across the globe. While you don't *have* to represent a State, not doing so is unusual and likely rather difficult, and because it is something of a posturing flex of the best-represented States over others, it becomes culturally divisive to the public and difficult for participants who have complex relationships with multiple places for various reasons.

I dunno. The Olympics always seem to bring out and elevate the voices of casual bigots and nationalists. It almost makes me glad that I don't really give a fuck about sports beyond seeing that people have a right to participate in them if they wish to.
