Why are people upset over an extra day off?

My theory is that it's just because it has such a stupid name.

Call it "Emancipation Day" or something like that and everyone would probably be pretty chill about it.

More accurately, if you're a complete tool about expressing your opinion, you're trolling. The opinion itself generally doesn't matter, unless it's something so undeniably deplorable that the only reason anyone would ever express it is to bother people.

Its 2022, and boards are still having trouble with spaces in usernames.

Sounds to me like any and every character set should be allowed plus all the wingdings and art font instead of the otherwise around. Hell, usernames should allow emojis too. There's literally multi-player games that have more freedom to do than than this.

I feel like it should be mandatory for all users to post their main identity in the sig of their alt accounts. Trying to figure out who's who based solely on context or off-handed comments they said in one topic months ago is definitely kind of annoying.

I have a username for contributions and a username for the message board. I'm not filling the form out and just letting it default to this username.

Apparently they went on a blocking spree in the last day or two, because they blocked me too.

It's also kind of funny, because for a while I was auto-blocking every new account they made, but didn't block VampireCoyote because I figured I'd give them another chance, and they seemed like they'd finally settled down a bit. Apparently I was wrong and the nervous breakdown is still ongoing.

As far as I can tell, the only thing I can think of that would have led to me getting blocked is if I hurt their feelings in the topic about language and talking about words being gender neutral. Which if so would be pretty childish, considering how innocuous my post was there.

What do you mean? Speciality shoes are custom made, everything is guaranteed, except for them looking decent.

I don't mean shoes made specifically to order for your feet alone, I meant more unique or specialized designs of shoes that people aren't buying on a regular basis, so selection is always more limited.

Yeah, was going to say, it's from one of the Four Classics of Chinese Literature. So you'll see it crop up in a lot of Chinese or Japanese stuff.

Two of the other classics (Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin) have influenced a lot of stuff Westerners have seen more recently as well (like the Romance of the Three Kingdoms/Dynasty Warriors games or Suikoden).

The problem is that safety devices aren't necessarily foolproof either. And people tend to get even more lax about safety when they assume the safety measures will handle everything. Odds are that ride DID have multiple safety factors, and one or more of them failed (potentially due to operator error, poor maintenance, or just poor design).

I was once at a park and watched the guy in front of me get on a ride, and he was so fat he literally broke the safety harness as they were strapping him in (and I stepped right the fuck off that line and never rode that ride again). But if it had held at first and only snapped once the ride started, then they would have had the false illusion of safety and he could have been killed once the ride was going.

Arguably what we kind of need is a "weight limit"/"you are too fat to ride this ride" restriction the same way we have height restrictions, but then you'd have people whining and crying about how that's body shaming and they're being discriminated against. Safety harnesses aren't really designed to fit around people who are as wide as they are tall - and trying to make them "one size fits all" just increases the potential failure points.

If you know Obi-Wan can't kill Vader because of future movies, don't have them fight. If you have them fight anyway, don't have Obi-Wan win.

Ideally, if you have to have them fight (which you shouldn't, because it contradicts dialogue in Episode IV regardless, and that's Prequel-level bullshit), do it in a way where they're separated somehow before one of them can get the killing blow. Imperial troops show up and Obi-Wan has to run away. Vader gets buried under some debris and Obi-Wan doesn't have time to dig him out and finish him off. Obi-Wan gets knocked off a cliff and Vader can't get to him before Obi-Wan gets away. Pretty much any ending that allows them both to get away to meet again another day without having to force one character to choose to spare another.

Best-case scenario, Obi-Wan shouldn't have been saving Leia and shouldn't have been fighting Vader. Shoehorning those things in just because them remind people of the time long long ago when they still liked Star Wars movies just makes the story worse. Respect your own continuity and don't retcon everything just so you can tickle the nostalgia bone.

People today are kind of spoiled when it comes to that. Most shoe stores have at least a few size 13 shoes in stock, so you have a bit of selection and can generally get shoes when you need them. And even if you can't, you can always potentially go online and order whatever you need in your size.

But I've been 6'3" with size 13 feet more or less since middle school, and back in the 90s it was nearly impossible to find size 13 shoes (and god help you if you actually needed specialty shoes). Nearly every store topped out at 12, and half the time they wouldn't even want to order in larger sizes for you as a special order.

When I ran track I basically had to visit something like 30 different stores in about a dozen different towns before I could find a store that actually sold running cleats in size 13 (because the school provided shoes for everyone else... but they didn't have anything over size 12 either). Getting shoes was always a huge hassle.

I kind of love how easy it is for me to get shoes these days comparatively.

Yeah, it's still kind of hard to get anything over 13, but I've definitely seen a couple 14s and 15s in stores, which would have been completely unheard of 30 years ago.

Trying to finally play through all of fallout 4 (never was able to finish it or do the dlc even), but I have this dumb bug that prevents me from hearing any npc voices which is very annoying. I'll see if I can turn on subtitles or something so I can at least figure out whats going on, if not I'll just give up I guess.

I started playing Fallout 4 again, until I eventually triggered the one bug that corrupts the map and causes your game to crash whenever you're in a certain area (specifically, around the Cabot House, south of Bunker Hill). It's apparently been in the game since launch, and multiple people have gotten it, but Bethesda doesn't actually care so it was never patched.

So I said fuck it and stopped playing.

It's a bad sign that the last time I was playing Fallout 3 I stopped midway through as well (because of stupid DLC issues). And the same with Skyrim (because of bugs they only introduced in their forced Anniversary update). It pretty much makes me never want to pay for another Bethesda game again (not helped by the fact that I have zero hype for Starfield right now).

When a show's writers have a character sarcastically acknowledge a plot hole in-universe as a wink to the audience that they're also aware of it, saying "Yeah, we know this sucks" doesn't really change the fact that it still sucks.

Not in the modern sense, no. Because they actually used to push the idea of group responsibility and "netiquette", and would use social pressure to shame people who stepped out of line.

It only stopped working once more people flooded onto the Internet than the social dynamics could handle, so the wave of people being their usual shitty selves overcame any means of social control to keep them in line.

The size of Yu-gi-oh cards and Magic: the Gathering cards is different. So if, say, you buy a Duel Disc with the intention of using it to play Magic with to annoy your friends, you will be saddened when you discover that Magic cards don't actually fit into the slots.

I'll get fries 99% of the time. Depending on where you are, they usually scale from tolerable to great, so it's usually a fairly safe bet unless the place in question is absolutely terrible.

About the only onion rings I actually like are the ones from White Castle. Which is ironic, because I don't like their fries.

I don't game online, so they're utterly useless to me.

Couch co-op is pretty much the only multiplayer I care about. And most of the time I'm solo gaming anyway.

I grew up in the 80s and most of my gaming habits and preferences were formed then. Which is why I tend to see gaming as an antisocial activity I use to get away from other people. When I want to be social and hang out with people, there are about a thousand other better things we can do together.

And I definitely don't want to game with more or less total strangers.
