Would never be considered but it would be interesting if we had some cap based draft system where you bid on draft slots. Maybe like an assigned part of the salary cap or even just inclusive of the salary cap. So if you want to blow it up and bid big on an upcoming draft, you'd have to shed salaries

Right but they were very obviously tanking prior to that which made their winning spree at the end of the season even more bizarre

I wish I knew why people said the lottery encourages losing. without the lottery it'd be tank city with the worst record guaranteed the first pick. the problem is that individual players mean so much more in basketball vs. other sports. the draft is disproportionately valued.

Like I posted earlier, playoff style tournament between lotto teams to determine placement. Better regular season record rewarding home court advantage. Only problem would be traded picks and teams no showing

Either that or flip the lottery odds. Worst record gives us worst odds at number 1 pick. Don't reward teams for being bad. And it dis courage tanking. Look at the Lakers and Philly, teams absolutely tank for picks

Magic are .321 since Dwight left. Admittedly less time than the above but considering I arrived in Orlando the first season after he left, all I have known is horribleness.

We've had 1 top 3 pick in that time but it was Oladipo in a weak draft class. Seems like we have generally lost a spot during lotto and then been 1-2 spots outside the supposed stars. That being said there's been talent gone after us some years (Antetokoumpo and Booker spring to mind) but for the most part we have missed out on the supposed stars.

And yeah Detroit might be in a worse off state right now purely because of their contract situation but at least they have seen the playoffs and significantly more wins than us. Plus have a better team right now. Minnesota and Philly have a brighter future than us. Suns is tough to call, at least they someone to hang their hat on. Brooklyn are screwed.

I think the Magic areally mainly disappointing because we have players who looked like they could be good but they/we didn't develop enough. But they also give just enough hope that you don't quite give up on them. It's a horrible limbo situation

Honestly lotto needs to go anyway. Only encourages tanking.

What they should do is have a mini playoffs between lotto teams for lotto placement. Even if it's just a one off game per round. Give the team with higher winning record home court advantage to discourage tanking. It gives the TV/NBA more money. Also gives fans of bad teams something to still watch/root for in post season.

Oh and it would also make teams think twice about shedding assets mid-season in order to tank/rebuild.

Out of curiosity what do other people do when lower rated players out perform their higher rated team mates?

Player 1 - 29 rec, 450 yards, 4 TDs last season / 6 rec, 68 yards, 1 TD this season
Player 2 - 12 rec, 160 yards, 1 TD last season / 8 rec, 62 yards, 2 TD this season
Player 3 - 31 rec, 244 yards, 1 TD last season / 3 rec, 73 yards, 0 TD this season

Player 1 is 77 rated (76 last season)
Player 2 is 80 rated (80 last season)
Player 3 is 82 rated (82 last season)

Like maybe it's slightly coverage related but it still baffles me. Especially as off rating alone I want to drop Player 1 and play Player 4 (an 80 rated 2nd rounder from last year)

Not sure it would vault them into that category. Lotto picks generally take a few years to come good even if they are a star.

Stakes for the Lakers are kinda crazy, right? They can either get a PG of the future, a solid backup option/tradebait for PG, or lose the pick entirely.

If they don't land in the top 3, they lose their pick and are essentially fucked for the next half-decade. They have a 50/50 shot or so.

People can pretty much drop the whole "lottery is rigged" theory if this happens.

Yeah, if they don't land top 3 they lose both the pick this year and their 1st next year too. So pretty grim. Which makes their end of season winning spree even more baffling

The biggest night of the year as a Magic fan. Ping pong balls!

Hope that the Lakers drop out of the top 3 more than we move up (ideally both but it's unlikely) as if they do, we get their 1st next year rather than their 2nd this year

You have played against 2 teams who are 3-0 which probably doesn't help.

I think my defense has been the main reason for my good start as just from the notes KCF has mentioned, they have generated some nice numbers (6 Sacks, 4 FF's, 7 INTs, 2 Def TD) and I'm guessing there might actually be some missing from that too.

I assume the Cowboys defense has been pretty good too.

To stop Frieza from gathering the Namekian Dragonballs.

Only Yamcha would even know Frieza is after them. How's he going to convince everybody to go to Namek to battle a guy none of them know exists? I mean they would have no reason to believe he magically knows a space villain that just so happens to be after a set of dragon balls that just so happen to be on Piccolo's home planet

Or he just says they should follow Vegeta because maybe there's more coming for them

DJ Hord somehow manages to come up with TDs all the time despite being buried on the depth chart. I think he got 4 TDs last season and then despite being nowhere on the depth chart this season, he gets in after injury and gets a TD already after game 2.

2-0 despite having 6 injuries, I'm OK with that!

But if you did it the way I said it would be 70 + 45 = 115. Divided by 2 is 57.5. So same result

I.e. you only care about the % for 1 side of the result, regardless of whether it's predicted as a winner or loser

You have to do 100-55 to get 45 though. That's what Ngamer was saying.

Yeah I get that, for some reason I thought the spreadsheet listed matches as 55/45 rather than winner and percentage

It's that easy when everyone picks 2006, but when 10 people go with 2011 instead the script needs to recognize that and use [100 - their pick] instead. Not a huge deal but a little bit of a complication.

Consensus shouldn't take into account penalty though? Because let's say you have an exact 50.1/49.9 match or even a 51/49 , consensus would say people picked the loser when actually the majority picked the winner and only the penalty pushed the loser into favoritism.

I guess it depends on if your consensus pick is average result or what people think the % will be. For me it's the latter and then penalty applies after that of applicable. Can see why other would go with the opposite though
