Whether you define Twine games as "games" or not is your business, but there wasn't enough room in the topic title to call them "stories".

Basically, I'll make a short CYOA game using Twine - certain words will be highlighted, you click on the words and it'll either be a dumb joke or a branching path that leads to a dumb ending. If you recommend a setting or dumb situation, I'll try and string as many suggestions together as an "out of the frying pan, into the fryer" type thing. I'm also down to use CEmen by name in the thing, if they want to appear in text form doing something moronic for the sake of the lowest form of comedy.

If that sounds fun to you, I'll make something stupid for the whole board to potentially enjoy. If not, I'll probably use the Twine maker to write angsty poetry or something. idk.

I played SA1 after the Grumps playthrough, and imo the Chao garden crap was too much trouble to deal with. The Sonic levels were fun, but I played the game mostly for trophies and because even the worst aspects of the game were amusing because I remembered the jokes at their expense.

There's nothing wrong with unironically liking the game, because whether it's polished to a mirror shine or not, kids can enjoy and get good at a ton of games that don't necessarily hold up - nostalgia or not, it's cool if they're still on board with the games. People bought the game for Sonic, and the Chao Garden kept them around - honestly, whatever.

For non-fans, it's fun to laugh at dated shit, and the first game at least has some stuff to genuinely enjoy like the music and some fun levels. 2 is okay, but the Tails levels are kind of awful and that gravity level near the end of the Light playthrough is fucking garbage.

The inverse happened to a series once, it was pretty great.

The first episode of Waiting In The Summer ends with a naked girl in a towel kissing the main protagonist to restore his lifeforce. It's pretty much the only lolsowacky sexual thing in the show, though the show does have some stupid sex humor and pointless nudity in it. The end of the first episode sets up this expectation that it's all going to be naked girls and shitty fanservice at the expense of a decent, fun romance story, and the rest of the series thankfully balances things out so the show can reach its emotional potential.

I'd rather be a bit loud and stubborn regarding social issues over thinking (x) race is full of (y) stereotypes and belong in the homeland that their ethnicity comes from. SJWs typically think they're doing right and helping people by fighting those who hurt them for their race or lifestyle choices - regardless of how skewed or distorted that gets, I think it's an intrinsically more noble thing to be than to mumble about different races smelling bad and blaming the degradation of society on a bunch of people with different skin to mine.

I'm just glad that Moffat isn't the boss any more. I never liked his stuff as showrunner - The Empty Child was rad as fuck, but his go-to mood was "spooky cosmic/Gothic horror" and "completely exaggerated world-shattering event that will leave the universe in complete shock and disarray". Rebooting the entire universe as the payoff in Series 5 was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, and with every new development (Time Lord zygote, The Doctor's name being a massive fucking deal, tying River Song into just about everything [which was inevitable given the Library episodes that Moffat wrote during Davies' run]) I just stopped giving a shit. The only exposure I had to the Capaldi stuff was an episode about the monster under your bed, and while I imagine the entire run isn't along the same lines, I was not a happy camper.

I hope to watch through all of Moffat's era and draw up an actual informed opinion, not just reacting to garbage I don't like. But for now, I'm just happy that some other person gets to handle the reins from here on in.

Who gives the Doctor regenerations has nothing to do with what sex he'll be (Matt Smith: "I'M A GIRL!"), The Master. And River didn't give him her regens, she revived him from death by giving up hers. He received new regens from Gallifrey. Again, Christmas episode.

Ahh, okay. I was gonna throw up a disclaimer that my hold on the canon is tenuous at best, because I haven't seen the show since like series 5 but kept up with the spoilers. Thanks for the correction.

Of course, the only reason the above even happened is because River Song became a Time Lord, because her parents Amy and Rory were time-travelling during her conception and the sperm and egg/zygote was affected by time radiation, turning her into a Time Lord. So I mean you can still blame this on bad writing. Still, I'm down to clown with this new Doctor.

MrMallard
07/16/17 6:36:21 AM

Japanese games have rarely fared well on Xbox. The console is basically dead last in Japan, and exclusive Japanese games on the system have mostly bombed. Lost Odyssey, the critically acclaimed JRPG by the father of Final Fantasy with a score by Nobuo Uematsu? There's a reason it doesn't have a sequel - it bombed. Not enough people in Japan had an Xbox, and it didn't make waves in the west because it was a niche game.

In comparison, PS4 and Vita have all the JRPGs, visual novels and general weeb games. That's because Sony has a much larger market share in Japan.

That's one reason why a game might only hit Sony consoles and PC, and not Xbox.

The only thing that points towards the title of this thread being true, is the backwards compatability. It's following in the footsteps of the PS2, and that's a hell of a pitch. You can play the entirety of a company's console releases on one platform - that's great.

The factor that decides the One X's fate, though, will be if the new games are any fun to play. It needs more than "this year's instalment of FIFA looks really good". It looks better than the Playstation offering, and performance-wise it'll beat the Switch by far, but if its original offering bombs - that's One X exclusives and One games - and there's nothing exciting to offer for the price tag outside of a tangential tech upgrade to 4K movies, its potential will be squandered.

I think it'll be pretty good, and it's a complete turnaround from the One's launch where they tried to fuck everyone with always-online and Kinect requirements. But let's wait for it to come out and prove its potential.

TopicDoes choosing to believe in Atheism actually increase your intelligence level?
MrMallard
07/15/17 1:45:08 AM
#22
Atheists can be some of the most sanctimonious, self-absorbed morons out there. The sheer fact of not believing in a god doesn't make them more intelligent, and if they think it does, then they're just another idiot trying to get a free pass for being "awoken" or w/e.

I feel like being critical of religion is healthy, but wholly embracing it and throwing it out the window in a fit are separate sides of the spectrum that leads to intellectual stunting. Even if you don't believe in it, it's still entirely worthwhile to learn about the scripture and the mythology of it all, and understand what another person might see in it - the same way someone might read a book about the Greek gods, and not become a polytheist who sacrifices a goat every now and again to appease Zeus.

Of course, not all atheists throw knowledge about religion out the window - you can be satisfied with the idea of there being no god, and still finding interest in the mythology, history and actions of certain religions. An interest in the subject matter doesn't signify belief. It's the atheist who disregards this to spit in the face of something "lesser" who's not all that, who thinks they're the best for not believing in a god but mostly uses the ideology as an excuse to run their mouth. I think there can be Christians who are receptive and open to knowledge in the same way, who despite believing in a cosmic unknown, can open their mind enough to be more intelligent than the dregs of atheism.

It can be spun as "Libcuck nation of pussies bends over to accommodate terrorist, like every european country ever", but the fact is that there was enough evidence to deem the guy's detainment unlawful, to the point that Canada spent like $120 million on legal fees to combat this guy's lawsuit and they still lost.

Repeat: Canada spent $120 million to fight a lawsuit against a man who was illegally detained and tortured in Gitmo for a decade, and there was enough evidence against them that they lost. Trudeau didn't cut him a check, kiss his cheek and send him on his merry way - Khadr successfully sued Canada.

Not gonna TL;DW this video. It discusses the progression of roguelikes, FPS games and "immersive sims" as a way to illustrate the way that new genres are formed and proliferate - and, occasionally, even stagnate due to the required trappings required to remain as a part of a genre.

If that sounds interesting to you, plot out fifteen minutes of free time and watch the video.

I did die a few times in ways that got on my nerves, but it's less "the game kept clobbering me" and more "this area is just like the other area, but with more floors, more dead ends and another pointless gimmick".

I could keep tuning in and playing the game in the same repetitive, braindead way until I find my way to the next boring story beat, or I could play something that entertains me more, because I realize that SMT3 isn't my thing and continuing to force my way through it is a waste of my time.

JohnLennon has always been, and always will be, a pathetic shitposter. Don't let him press you, his only goal is to be as difficult as possible and make you as angry and unintelligible as possible.

You don't have to block him, but it'll do you a world of good to ignore him. You'll never get anywhere otherwise.

Cool, I've been playing FFV myself lately, not my first playthrough. I haven't been good to the Blue Mage class, but I'm planning to master every class in the game.
