Have there been any court cases establishing the right to armed assembly? I couldn't find anything definitive with my two minutes of googling. Obviously you separately have the right to bear arms and the right to assemble, but for the latter the government can impose restrictions (needing a permit etc); it seems feasible to me that they might also be able to constitutionally prevent the nazis from assembling an armed mob.

Well, most people don't watch Fox, but it's the main source of news for a pretty significant portion of the population (it's one of three major cable news channels). If they're running with a particular narrative it will likely color how, I don't know, 20-30% of the country view an issue. They're not going to make the whole country accept racism as okay, but they're certainly a big part of the reason Trump's support hasn't totally collapsed (and why his base is able to rationalize away most of the dumpster fire).

It looks like bedlam could start at any one of them at any moment and if the Charlottesville police's handling of that situation shows you anything its that your safety is in your own hands.

According to Gov. McAuliffe the nazis were better armed than the police and there were weapon caches hidden around town

Most protestors here were doing so peacefully and weren't antifa. If you were nonviolently protesting nazis you have done absolutely nothing wrong.

Actual antifa do some shitty things (I was not a fan of their property damage here at Berkeley), BUT they have never been on the level of fucking nazis and shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath.

I'm not gonna mourn too much, but this appropriate movement to remove the honor of the Confederacy in public spaces does suck in the sense that these pieces should still be available for historical study in a dedicated private space elsewhere.

I agree with this

They should be put in their proper context (i.e. this was a "significant historical figure" instead of "this was a hero"), but destruction is taking it too far (not to dismiss the legitimate grievances people have regarding symbols of the Confederacy).
