There's an important difference between remembering history and celebrating history. Publicly displayed monuments celebrate history, and this isn't a part of history that should be celebrated.

Yes and these statues were erected in the 1920s with influence by KKK members (and other racists) to continue to intimidate and demoralize people of color. It was in the height of Jim Crow segregation laws being passed that this statue and many others like it went up. There's zero reason to keep the statues up in public.

City Council voted to remove the statue. So nonlocals show up, have a white supremacist rally under the guise of a protest, and injure and kill the very locals that want the statue gone. And the issue is with the counter protest? Stop being delusional. Not you, but anyone defending these jackasses

It was only a protest again a statue

It was a white nationalist gathering under the guise of a protest. These are people that want memorials to slave owners to remain prominently in the public. They were chanting "black lives don't matter here". They seriously injured and even killed people present at the event.

It wasn't only a protest. It was a disgusting hate rally with violent ends. And the people that chose to participate, in plain view of the public, in their white supremacist garb and carrying tiki torches, were photographed.

If businesses want to end connections with those kinds of people it's fully within their rights and not related to free speech.

I can't think of any that have this broad of a scope. Space Engineers is pretty fun, but that's just building and mining and not being a cosmonaut. some good space themed RTS games. I think FTL is my favorite space game but it's not at all the same as No Man's Sky.

I hope this game eventually lets you create creatures (similar to Spore). That would be pretty great.

Next play session I need to figure out how to make it to space stations. And upgrade inventory. This dinky inventory sucks! Also maps, how do they work in this game, haven't figured that out at all.

Even with all of the updates and changes, it's still not all that meaty or worthwhile of a game.

Good for you if you manage to get enough enjoyment out of it to justify the cost to yourself, though. Even bad games can see fun if you don't have a huge buy-in investment in them, or go in with low enough expectations.

I know there are better space games out there. I was looking for a game where you can just explore, do a little building, see weird things. Seems to fit that bill. My expectations are pretty low for it. So far it has been pretty enjoyable checking things out. More depth would be great. I haven't even got to space stations and trading yet, don't know what that will open up.

Wowsers I had weird dreams after this game. On my first planet some unknown drones kept finding and attacking me. I couldn't figure out what the heck. It was right outside of my landing point.

Then in my dream these high flying ships would drop bombs if you happened to be out in the open when they flew by. It was not a fun dream. Spent most of it hiding in buildings and looking at the sky.

The game is now a year old, it's on sale on Steam, and they just released a bunch of updates. I love space and weird shit so why not.

It's time to explore some procedurally generated planets and see what this game is about. Maybe I will bump into another player. Maybe I will die alone in the endless void of space. Who even knows. I sure don't because I just bought this game.

Sounds a lot like depression. however, you could be really bored, and getting stuck in your routine. That can feel like depression--and can contribute to a depressed state. The best thing to do is take some time for yourself to take care of yourself, and do what you can to try new things. get out. Talk with people face to face. go eat something really tasty. Find a cool park to walk in. Anything out of the norm that seems appealing, go for it.

I got into an awful funk this week where it was a real low. and had similar feelings about my partner. In my case i'm just pretty sure that he's not who I really want to be with and I'm going to have to break it off. Hurrf. Either way I am in no state to be a good partner for anyone.

now I'm planning and working towards doing something new--checking out a new country and meeting friends.

What kind of goals do you have right now, Fatal?

Acetaminophen may help with emotional pain as a temporary thing. It may numb all emotion. Worth taking note of if you use the medication with any frequency. I don't, I typically take naproxen or ibuprofen if I need pain relief.

Who says it has to be purely capitalist? Not all jobs produce earnings, even if they are necessary. It does not mean those workers should be uncompensated. Government programs subsidize employment wages in certain fields or for certain employees already. Continue to do so for careers that increase quality of life. There are ways that it could be accomplished. I'm sure something like universal basic income will make the earning opportunities less of a deciding factor for career choice.

I understand challenging gender norms that discourage people from pursuing one career or another is a good thing. Let people find their own aptitude without being told by society what they should or should not do. That's a good idea and I support that. What I don't get is why we need to actively attract a certain demographic to a specific job regardless of social norms being the problem. Destroy the barriers, both social and institutional and then let people decide if they want to do that.

I'm not trying to force them in there at ALL.

But many men just don't consider fields viable because of the pay. And I don't blame them. Check out these two options with a very similar skills shortage. One is a male-heavy field, the other is female-heavy.

Option A: Get your Power Engineer certification in 1 year. Start at 60k (The average locally is over 87k). You're starting at a $44 median hourly rate.

Even if you love animals and are interested in that field, from a pragmatic perspective why would you give up something that pays double? People still need to be in either career. You don't have vet clinics, zoos, wildlife centres, or even the meat industry without animal health workers. Yet they make very little even with high requirements. Should the wages be more livable it would attract more applicants--including men. Maybe it's what more people want to do but can't afford to pass up the wages.

If you want to get into the gender of it, in a lot of ways men are expected to be breadwinners, and women are expected to be secondary earners. Still. Do i agree with it? No, but the idea is reflected in wages for careers with large gender disparity. And that can be a gigantic deterrent for men pursuing fields that may interest them and compensate poorly--fields that end up populated with women.

You don't really get to care that the debate is one-sided while not caring enough to support the other side. That's just lazy and dismissive. If you don't care, don't weigh in. If you weigh in, be prepared to care.

That, and calling it one-sided means you're fundamentally missing the point here, because it's the same side you're talking about. It's not men vs. women, as much as a great many people (men and women alike) like to think of it that way. It's about removing archaic gender expectations from careers where they don't belong. In most cases, it's going to be women that benefit from that, because history, but the same push can certainly be applied to male nurses, and ECE's, and beauticians, and any other traditionally-feminine field. Don't treat this as an us v.s them thing, everyone stands to benefit from new attitudes.

Seriously. Men not being respected for going into Nursing is the same issue, from a different side. BOTH things need addressing. So-called womens' work (nursing, teaching, social work, animal health tech, administration, aestheticians, etc.) needs to be compensated better to attract more men to the fields. It helps everyone to make the options more appealing and respectable.

Almost at 4 weeks now and I've dropped 4KG. I'd like to attribute that to healthy eating but I just haven't been eating all that much. Not eating animal products kind of limits the quick easy to access food.
