The old topic made it to 500 after almost 2.5 years.
And so we begin again. Because cats > dogs.

Cats are one of the most popular pets in the world, and the most popular pet in many parts of the world. They are independent, friendly, affectionate, playful, and prone to running around like maniacs after they relieve themselves.

Right now I have two cats of my own (OK, I share my living space with them. No one owns a cat) and dozens more felines in my life.

JFoIkABh
That's She-Ra. I didn't name her that, it was her shelter name that she learned and it's fun to say. She's had a bunch of babies but now she's spayed and has a home and food. She came home with me in April.

She likes to knock over the garbage and sneeze in my face. She-Ra is a huge fan of running around in a frenzy at dusk and will bounce off of you if you're in her way. When it's bed time she's all about cuddles and sometimes sleeping on the pillow.

muUezFCh
That's Tiny Man. He's 2, has been with me since he was 2 months, and a little bit of a terror cat. Tiny yells for his food and for attention. He's not even tiny, this kitty is big and heavy. A dense and sturdy Manx body on giant legs. Tiny likes to bite things and cuddle. He really loves to be brushed and handled roughly. I'm his human.

Let's talk about and share cats!

Cute! If I ever had a cat with heterochromia I'd be tempted to name it Bowie.

I made friends with this old cat. She lives in the office. She's like 13-14, super skinny, and hated everyone for a while. Now she happily greets me. She's full of sass even though she can't jump so well any more in her old age.

There's a Silicon Valley litter of cats here.

Gilfoyle, Erlich, and Hendriks are female. Bachman, Big Head, and Dinesh are male. They're cuties.

hey i've heard about cat-poop brain. i don't know how it works exactly, because i don't have a cat any more (thank god). isn't it a chemical or parasite that is a product of cat poop, and it's purpose is to make prey move more slowly? i forget how it was explained to me exactly...

something i find funny about cats is I never see them with much loyalty. but ive never owned a cat.

Anyways my neighbor has some cats. I dont know how many now, but in the past I think 3. And a dog. When the neighbor would walk the dog, the cats would also follow and walk with them but like 15-20 ft back. Kinda funny how the dog being walked would draw their cats out too to join.

Cats definitely do show loyalty to humans they're bonded to. I am greeted by cat fanfare regardless of the time I get in or how long I've been gone. After mealtime cats try to groom with me (which can mean one cat licking my hair). I have an office cat right now who will not leave me alone and Gates most other people and I don't even feed her... They're not like dogs but cats are definitely fond of humans and there's no mistaking the affection and loyalty.

Growing up we had an indoor outdoor cat that would walk us to school and then walk home (or wherever he wanted to go) after we crossed the last road to the school. He also was waiting by the house when we walked home. Cool cat.

How do you handle cats stomping around their litterboxes and then jumping all over your stuff? Every time my girlfriend brings her cat over I feel obligated to scrub everything down with Lysol wipes because of all the horrible brain eating, mind control diseases in cat feces.

cats can be loyal. they wont show it like dogs, but the ones that do like you are pretty much always about two feet away from you at all times.

also, my cat chooses my over my wife every time he wants attention. hell, even when she's giving him attention he leaves her and comes over to me

You're more likely to get toxoplasmosis from improperly handled or undercooked meat. Cats get it from live prey. You're unlikely to get it from a cat that lives indoors and doesn't encounter live vermin.

Dogs will just walk through their feces and walk into your home. You can get worms from them. People don't seem overly bothered thinking of it.

Tiny likes to hump a blanket. He's neutered and nothing weird with him physically. Some cats just do it despite being fixed.

I don't like dogs. I love cats, but I have trouble watching this cat jump on my counters and tables after stepping in his own poop. It's probably something I should just get over. I've always been a minor germophobe.

a long time ago, i had a cat that would get worried if you weren't awake by a certain time.

he would stick his face in yours, and then he's softly put his paw on your face or arms, whatever was exposed, and lightly stick his claws out. you could then start to try and avoid him by going more under the covers, but he's still manage to get his paw on you.

he wouldn't quit until you were awake. he never even wanted anything, either. as soon as he was satisfied that you were sufficiently awake he'd wander off.

One of my roommate's cats will something similar every so often. If she sneaks into my room, and senses/know I'm barely awake, she'll jump up on me and stand on my chest, and meow at me. She's not that heavy, but the full weight put on those front 2 paws gets your attention pretty quickly.

Haha. Oh, cats

I set up a toy box for my kitties and I always come home to a few choice toys dragged around somewhere. They know where the toys are stashed but don't know to put anything away. :p
