It is easier to answer this on specific issues.

The Nationalists end goal is a Sweden without non-Nordic immigrants. They also detest homosexuals and want to make abortions illegal. But they are more socialist than the Conservatives on issues regarding social safety nets for example. The Nationalist party was openly neo-nazi until the start of the new millenium. The Conservative party was formed back in the day to preserve the influence of the nobles and the rich. So they have different outlooks on many issues.

Oh good, I'm not crazy for thinking German when I hear it.

Like, German with a few distinct pronunciations removed.

We have loads of vowels instead and also some fairly unique fricatives. Swedish also share a trait with some East Asian languages actually - tonal accents.

I think the general US population would be more interested in actively following politics if there were more viable parties like Sweden has.

Instead, we basically just get most people who make a decision they see as very black & white (you're either Democrat or Republican) and then do their best to just ignore everything for 4 years. I know there's a ton of unrest in the country right now, but it's still a very small percentage of the population that's actively involved and almost all of it is just a series of knee-jerk reactions from both sides.

And there would definitely be a lot more cooperation, like BalanceLost said. One side couldn't just look at the other and go "fuck those guys, we're just gonna win a majority and then we won't need them" because no single party would be able to have a stable majority when it's split among 4 or 5 different parties. You'd be lucky to get a single party with even 40% control. It would go from "I'm not going to cooperate because I don't need to" and turn into "who am I going to cooperate with to get this done?" And that changes the whole mindset behind policy.

Very well said. Sure, there will always be political discord but the level of it depend on what kind of system you have imo.

Correct.
The Conservatives have lost closer to half their voter base since 2010 and the majority have gone to the Nationalists. A fair amount have gone to the Neoliberals as well.

Yes and no. They moved to the center on economic issues during the 90's but they became less strict on military and law enforcement during the same time. Now they are moving back towards the left on economic policies but going more strict on immigration and being stronger supporters of the military and the police. The Socialdemocrats have always supported a mixed economy (in various degrees) though.

I think it creates a bigger need for cooperation and compromise between politicians. Also a bigger need to actually do what you promise since voters got other options if they feel betrayed.

The Greens, the Liberals and the Christian-Democrats are all below or dancing close to the 4% threshold. The ChristDems have pushed back up above the threshold in this poll but they still remain on shaky ground - their increase is pretty much because the Conservatives keep losing voters.
